Success: Accomplishing Your Dream Completing the "American Dream" is a controversial issue. The American Dream can be defined as having a nice car, maybe two or three of them, having a beautiful, healthy family, making an impact on the world, or even just having extra spending money when the bills are paid. In the play "Death Of A Salesman," by Arthur Miller, the "American Dream" deals with prosperity, status, and being immortalized.
Willy Loman, a hard worker aged to his sixties never accomplished this goal. He always talked the talked, but never achieved to walk the walk. Willy Loman would always talk about who he's met and how he has always well known and liked, but truthfully he never was. "Willy: He's liked, but not-well liked…I got on the road and I went north to Providence. Met the Mayor. (ACT I, lines 232, 234)…Willy: And they know me, boys, they know me up and down New England. The finest people. And when I bring you fellas up, there'll be open sesame for all of us, 'cause one thing, boys: I have friends. I can park my car in any street in New England, and the cops protect it like their own…(ACT I, line 242)." Willy can talk of meeting wonderful and powerful men, but his limits stretch to the Mayor of Providence. Willy Loman's dreams seem to outlive Willy.
Willy dreamed his life out, even to his death. He dreamed of dying the death of a salesman. All the powerful men he knew would attend his funeral. Cars would line up for miles and everybod...
"We've been talking in a dream for fifteen years,” (Arthur Miller). Death of a Salesman, by Arthur Miller is a play about a man named Willy Loman, Arthur Miller, who explores the American dream and what happens to a family when the dream is not fulfilled. In the late 1940s, after World War II, things don’t turn out the way people want it to be. Most men were unemployed, economical and financial issues regarding lack of payments for workers and families.
Barack Obama made history by being elected President of the United States, twice. This is just one more example that the American Dream is without a doubt achievable. Its pursuit is not easy; it requires undeniable hard work, modesty and optimism. Armed with these characteristics, seekers of this lifestyle will undeniably succeed. Success, though, is an interesting concept, for it can entail many superficial qualities. Willy Loman, the tragic hero of the play Death of a Salesman, sees only the superficial qualities of this dream. He views success solely as likeability (linked with attractiveness), and wealth. Ignoring all methods to honorably achieve these, Arthur Miller demonstrates how Willy’s search for the superficial qualities of the American Dream lead him to his own despair.
Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman exploits the notion of the American Dream and the promises made by the American Government towards its citizens. Throughout the play, Miller makes references to dreams that each character carries but the failure in the fulfilment of the same. He recaptures the disappointments and disillusionments that the American nation suffers from for the American Dream is as well as death. Miller was the first playwright of his time who sheds light on this fact that the dream that every American carries a torch for is dead and gone.
Today, cloud services are widely used by people around the world in purpose of business, government, and personal use. With cloud services, users use resources - could be storage, computional capability, or software- from cloud service provider mediated by Internet. Doing computational work with cloud services involves a number of computers to do the large-scale works, therefore it usually called by distributed system over Internet (reference, paper?). Cloud service also offers a large-scale service where users only pay for what they use (on-demand). Therefore, companies migrate to business-to-business cloud as they don’t have to spend money building intial cost for their computational business. For instance, instead of building their own storage, network, cooling, they could just “rent” resource from cloud provider for the lower cost. Besides money benefits, cloud resources also able to be shared by multiple...
The ultimate goal of this amendment is to protect people’s right to privacy and freedom from unreasonable causes by the government. The 4th Amendment to the United States Constitution was added as part of the Bill of Rights on December 15, 1791. The Founders believed that freedom from government intrusion into one’s home was a natural right (one granted from God) and fundamental to liberty. This amendment also provides that "[t]he right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated,...”. The American Dream; the belief that anyone regardless of where they were born or what their social rank is, can attain their own version of success in society. This dream is one that Americans strive for. They strive for that overwhelming feeling of success knowing they made an impact in society. In Arthur Miller’s play, The Death of a Salesman, Willy Loman searches for this dream while unconsciously destroying the relationships with his family and friends around him.
It has been discovered that American children of today’s times spend nearly as much time with TV, computers, and other media as they do in their classrooms. Studies have shown that an average American child spends more than five hours using the media per day, and children 8 and older use the media and hour and 15 minutes more daily. “This is a wake-up call. It says media use is a major force in an American child’s development and socialization, and we don’t know enough about it,” said Ellen A. Wartella, the dean of the college of Communication at the University of Texas at Austin. Wartella disagrees with those who claim parents are the greatest influences on their children...
... child labor is illegal, according to the National Child Labor Report, there are approximately 1.6 million children between the ages of five and 17 years in the work force, around three-quarters of them are under the age of 14 and most are girls. Child labour has been predominant in Nepal for a hundreds of years particularly in rural areas as part of the normal process of socialization (The Nepal Labour Force Survey (NLFS) 2008). In this scenario the idealised idea of children being helpless and in need of protection disappears and so does the idea of childhood as a permanent social structure. Nepalese children are forced to take on the type of responsibilities that should really belong to their parents and in this sense they are missing out on doing things that children of their age do in most Western cultures for example something as basic as attending school.
An American dream is a dream that can only be achieved by passion and hard work towards your goals. People are chasing their dreams of better future for themselves and their children. The author Arthur Miller in Death of a Salesman has displayed a struggle of a common man to achieve the American dream. Willy Loman the protagonist of the play has spent his whole life in chasing the American dream. He was a successful salesman who has got old and unable to travel for his work, and no one at work gives him importance anymore. He is unhappy with his sons Happy and Biff because both of them are not successful in their lives. Moreover, Biff and Happy are also not happy with their father Willy because they don’t want to live a life that Willy wants them to live. The heated discussions of Willy and his older son Biff affect the family and the family starts to fall apart. However, Willy is unable to achieve the American dream and does not want to face the reality that his decisions for himself and his family have lead him to be a failure in the society. In the play Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller, the protagonist Willy Loman spends his whole life to achieve the American Dream by his own perception and denies facing the reality, just like nowadays people are selling themselves and attempting to find success in life.

Willy's American dream is to be known to everyone and financially successful. Willy doesn't believe in hard work and honesty to achieve the highest respect but instead focuses on personal appearance and social judgement. "He worries that people do not like him, admitting that people seem to respect Charlie which talks less, but Linda cheers him up, insisting that he will be fine." (Arthur miller) Willy's view of how to achieve the dream is a flawed one and he doesn't want to admit one bit of it. Willy plays his sons as to be the greatest and the worst failures in life sometimes. "Willy boasts that his sons will achieve more than Bernard becuase they are more attractive and bet...
