My Philosophy of Education
John Dewy once said that “education is a social preparation . . .education is growth . . . education is not a preparation for life, education is life itself.” Dewey’s statement represents the roots of my educational philosophy. I believe that school is a place where students develop social skills that will equip them for the rest of their lives. I believe that school is a place where students grow mentally, physically, and emotionally. I believe that school is not only a major tool in the real world battle against ignorance and poverty, but it is also place where dreams come true. I hope to instill creativity, imagination, and fundamental morals that will follow a child throughout his or her life. As a teacher I hope to promote social interaction, encourage, and motivate growth, and have a positive effect on the lives of my students.
In today’s society, there are those who take an essentialist point of view, those who prefer navigating our students back to the basic structured principles of reading, writing, and arithmetic. I feel this method creates a robot generation that would be perfectly capable of reciting the Gettysburg Address, but would be unable to discuss the reason it was given. I believe that educators should strive to use this fundamental and structured subject matter to introduce critical thinking and creativity, while incorporating cooperative learning and discussion. I feel the integration of social skills with fundamental knowledge molds a young mind into a confident and productive learner, one who is capable of engaging in critical thinking and intelligent communication. This should be the primary objective of public education.

At some point in their educational career, almost everyone is inspired by a teacher. Teachers not only have an effect on the present life of the child, but they also directly affect who this child will become. I want to teach children in order to better their lives. I want to give them the social skills and communication skills they need in order to be a competitive force. I want to help them grow and reach their full potential. I want them to enjoy school and have fond memories of their early education years. My goal as a teacher is to one day be able to look back and say that I was once one of those teachers who made a difference in someone’s life. I want to be a teacher who not only prepares students for life, but one who, through education, gives a child “life itself.”
In the essay, “The Trail of Tears” by author Dee Brown explains that the Cherokees isn’t Native Americans that evaporate effectively from their tribal land, but the enormous measure of sympathy supported on their side that was abnormal. The Cherokees process towards culture also the treachery of both states and incorporated governments of the declaration and promises that contrived to the Cherokee nation. Dee Brown wraps up that the Cherokees had lost Kentucky and Tennessee, but a man who once consider their buddy named Andrew Jackson had begged the Cherokees to move to Mississippi but the bad part is the Indians and white settlers never get along together even if the government wanted to take care of them from harassment it shall be incapable to do that. The Cherokee families moved to the West, but the tribes were together and denied to give up more land but Jackson was running for President if the Georgians elects him as President he agreed that he should give his own support to open up the Cherokee lands for establishment.

In this day and age, money is a very important asset to have. One needs to have at least enough to live on, though great amounts are preferable. In The Great Gatsby, by Thomas F. Fitzgerald, having a large amount of money is not enough. It is also the way you acquire the money that matters. Gatsby and Tom both have a lot of money yet Daisey picks one over the other, not because of the difference in the amount they have, but because of the manner in which it is attained.

However, in the winter of 1838-1839, all of the Cherokees headed west toward Oklahoma. This removal of the Cherokees is now known, as the Trail of Tears was a very gruesome event. During the trip from the southern United States to current day Oklahoma, many of the Cherokees died. Shortly after their arrival in Oklahoma, they began to rebuild. They began tilling fields, sending their children to school, and attending Council meetings (Perdue 170).

To many the trail of tears has no meaning or relevance in their life, but for some the Trail of Tears has great meaning since many of the native ancestors endured the hardships of this time. In the 1830s, Native Americans occupied many acres of land in Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, North Carolina, and Florida. The main reason for the Trail of Tears was because the Americans wanted the Indians’ land for themselves so they could raise their cattle, and because of the good soil so they could grow and harvest crops. Their ancestors had lived on and cultivated this land for generations, and by the end of that generation very few Native Americans remained anywhere in the Southeastern United States. Many think that The Trail of Tears was just the “Five Civilized Tribes”, but there were many other smaller tribes involved too. Some tribes agreed to sign, and others were forced into it, but either way it went they all had to leave. Many Native Americans suffered from exposure, disease, and starvation on their way to their destinations, making The Trail of Tears one of the greatest hardships in Native American history.
The United States government's relationship with the Native American population has been a rocky one for over 250 years. One instance of this relationship would be what is infamously known as, the Trail of Tears, a phrase describing a journey in which the Native Americans took after giving up their land from forced removal. As a part of then-President Andrew Jackson’s Indian Removal Act, this policy has been put into place to control the natives that were attempting to reside peacefully in their stolen homeland. In the viewpoint of the Choctaw and Cherokee natives, removal had almost ultimately altered the culture and the traditional lifestyle of these people.
The novels Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston, and The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald are alike in many different ways, one being that they are both American novels set in the 1920’s. Their Eyes Were Watching God follows the life of a woman named Janie and her pursuit of love with her many husbands. The Great Gatsby is about a young entrepreneur named Nick that meets a mysterious rich fellow by the name of Gatsby who is in love with his cousin, Daisy. However, Daisy is married to Tom Buchanan, which creates conflict between Daisy, Tom, and Gatsby. Along the way 4,000 Indians died because of the harsh terrane and the cruelty of the soldiers and many of them are buried in unmarked graves along the trail of tears. The trail of tears has been Know according to a white Georgian the “Cruelest work I ever knew”(Tindall pg 343).A few Cherokees Indians hide in the mountains and became knew as the Eastern Band of Cherokees. Later the Creeks and the Chickasaws went back to try to take back control of their lands. During the trail of tears nearly 100,000 Indians were forced to relocate to the west. The government during that time sold about 100 million acres of Native American lands, and most of the land was prime cotton growing
The tragedy of the Cherokee nation has haunted the legacy of Andrew Jackson"'"s Presidency. The events that transpired after the implementation of his Indian policy are indeed heinous and continually pose questions of morality for all generations. Ancient Native American tribes were forced from their ancestral homes in an effort to increase the aggressive expansion of white settlers during the early years of the United States. The most notable removal came after the Indian Removal Act of 1830. The Cherokee, whose journey was known as the '"'Trail of Tears'"', and the four other civilized tribes, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek and Seminole, were forced to emigrate to lands west of the Mississippi River, to what is now day Oklahoma, against their will. During the journey westward, over 60,000 Indians were forced from their homelands. Approximately 4000 Cherokee Indians perished during the journey due to famine, disease, and negligence. The Cherokees to traveled a vast distance under force during the arduous winter of 1838-1839.# This is one of the saddest events in American history, yet we must not forget this tragedy.
The removal of the Cherokee Indians from their lands in the southeast is the largest Indian relocation in American history (Sides 362). It was unjust for the Americans to seize Indian land in order to make room for more Americans and immigrants. The Indians had done nothing to deserve this type of brutal treatment. These Indians had no way of fighting back to the Americans, so it was both unfair and unjust. The Trail of Tears, or as Indians called it The Trail where the Wept, was a trail of sickness and despair (Ehle 385). No person should ever have to go through what the Cherokees and other tribes went through. Even though the Americans had some viable reasons to desire the Indian land, they had no right of forcibly removing the Indians out without all of their consent.
The nursing field is always constantly growing, with people wanting to persue the career of bring new life into the world. To start this career people have to have a certain amount of education to learn about the job and how to do it. Starting early is always a great thing to keep in mind when thinking about the future. Author Kate Prudchenko says “Students in high school can prepare for these programs by taking core science courses like chemistry and biology, or they may be able to start their associate’s degree coursework while completing their high school diploma.” Taking chemistry may help the student learn how to balance equations and understand exactly how to handle chemicals in the laboratory and understand how they work. By taking biology in high school can help students get use to analyzing prenatal development and reproductive systems or may even introduce laboratory work. Labor and Delivery nurses dont just need a scientific background but also a background in humanities and social sciences to better prepare...
The importance of an electrical lineman is huge, not only in the community but also in most of the world. Their education, training, and correct use of equipment help them in their different and dangerous work conditions to accomplish the tasks of providing power to their communities.
I believe that education should be looked as as a desire to acquire all possible knowledge, not as a requirement or something that can be formally examined by standardized tests. There are numerous ways that children learn and I want to be able to encourage as much learning as possible for each child. I believe that using many methods of instruction is the most effective way of teaching to these various ways of learning. These methods include group work, hands-on activities, buddy work, etc. Assessment of children should follow the same idea. When children get the chance to perform on different assessments, they can adequately show their strengths and weaknesses. I do not wish to rely on tests only to assess the students in my class. Some types of assessment that I think should be inlcuded in a classroom are journals, presentations, projects and interviews. I also think that the classroom should be run with the help of the children. By distributing jobs among the children and everyone participating in the classroom, the students will form a sense of togetherness. This will eventually create a community within the classroom. I feel that this community of learners is essential for the students to perform effectively and efficiently. They will feel comfortable in the environment and will not be afraid to take risks or ask questions. The teacher will also be a member of this community and will not be seen as unapproachable or as the only leader.

I would encourage each student that they are capable of whatever they desire, whether to grow up to be the first woman president, an astronaut, fireman, or a cashier; along with those dreams they must know that all of their dreams start in the classroom with their education. I will also teach them that whatever they desire in their future, to be the best they can be.
