The Private Choice
Think of all the notable people you may consider as highly educated. If you look deep enough, chances are you can find out about their education, which is often private. Why do some people prefer a private education? What even classifies as a private school? One definition given by the Encyclopedia of American Education is “in modern American education, any school not operated or directly funded by a governmental agency” (793); these include religious, non-sectarian, military, postgraduate, and special education schools. Private Education is beneficial because it provides specialized programs, presents higher standards, includes more involvement of the parents or guardians, and may soon be available to more people through government vouchers.
Private institutions are wonderful for those pursuing a specific field of education. A child who has a goal of becoming a scientist will learn more about that career choice at a school that emphasizes science than if they were to only take the classes offered through their local high school. There is only so much that can be taught in the public setting that still maintains the attention of the majority of the students in the class. In his book Choosing Equality, Joseph H. Viteritti states that “private school curricula offer students a narrower range of educational options and are more focused on academic, as opposed to vocational, subjects” (81). With the help of the more concentrated learning in a specific area, the students may even get through school faster and on to better things. I think that it is a great option for those who do not want to waste their time doing things in school that they deem meaningless. In addition, some privat...

...eir autonomy…[and] are unlikely to participate in a voucher program that would require them to meet accountability standards in [certain] areas” (Liberator 2). These opposing views are primarily why the issue is still in debate.
Whether you were privately educated or attended a public school, you still were able to obtain an education. Private schools often offer opportunities that you may not be able to find in every public school. Some individuals are quite satisfied with their local public school and find nothing wrong with their child being taught there. For those who can afford it (unless the voucher option ever passes), they choose to take advantage of everything private institutions have to offer, from a better quality staff and atmosphere to more in-depth studies to more satisfaction on the parents’ part. It is all a matter of personal choice.

How good was Hitler as a military commander? Was he, as his former subordinates claimed after World War Two ended, a meddlesome amateur who kept them from conducting the war properly? What were his strengths and weaknesses, his goals and methods? The answers to these questions reveal a man who was indeed responsible for Germany's downfall, though not entirely in the way that his generals claimed.
Disney is a leading diversified international family entertainment and media enterprise with five business segments: media networks, parks and resorts, studio entertainment, consumer products, and interactive media. Following is a brief description of each of them.
The footwear industry is a complete package so the different stages of shoe design and manufacturing interact seamlessly. This means that design departments and supply chains can operate on different components within the same product family; it reduces the opportunity for error resulting in efficient and highly profitable production. For the first six months of Nike’s current fiscal year, they brought in $816.9 million in revenue, with a 35 percent increase over the same period a year ago. Meanwhile, the core Nike business grew from $5.26 billion to $5.89 billion, a 12 percent increase. As for Reebok Brand, worldwide sales in the 2004 fourth quarter increased 18 percent to $817 million. From the numbers we can see that the athletic shoemaker industry is profitable and both companies are very competitive. With that said, we will now go on with discussing some of the basic factors that helps the industry to grow in profitable way.
You may look at Disney and see nothing but theme parks and movies. Disney is much more than that. Disney has so much more to it; more than you could ever imagine. Not only are there theme parks involved, but there are also media networks such as: Disney Channel, ABC, Freeform, and ESPN. There are many different parks and resorts as well such as: Disneyland, Walt Disney World, and Disney Cruise Line, just to name a few. Two of the most popular studio entertainment networks are owned by Disney, which are Marvel and Pixar. I had absolutely no idea that Marvel was owned by Disney. Disney resorts are all over the world. Some places where Disney resorts reside are: Latin America, Europe, Middle East, Africa, Japan, and Asia Pacific.

Together with ABC Family and ESPN, the media network has been able to offer distinct, local news across domestic and international cable networks. Parks and resorts have expanded across the world and continue to maintain the brand loyalty Disney so ever craves. Studio Entertainment has allowed Disney to expand into motion pictures, home entertainment and live performances to bring the excitement to customers. Consumer products are constantly being offered across the world in department stores, malls and shopping centers. Each one of the above business units represent an incredible strategic fit mainly because all contribute a substantial amount of revenue toward the company and have a unique way of maintaining customer loyalty. On the other hand, interactive media has failed to reach revenue goals due to the invention of smartphones. This is not considered a strategic fit due to its inability to adapt to consumer trends and remain relevant with the world’s innovations.
One reason why we chose to purchase shares of stock from The Walt Disney Company was because they have a promising company that shows frequent growth and improvement. Each year Disney has an increase of visitors at its parks. This brings in a great amount of money. Although, the parks a simply a fraction of where Disney gets their revenue. The company they own ESPN is approximately 40% of their company’s revenue. While ESPN continues to grow so does Disney. Disney has a return on equity that has jumped 5% in four years. They have a ROE of 15.24%. Another reason why we chose to purchase shares of Disney is because of its dividend yield, which is at 1.11%. Having a high dividend yield is crucial when looking into stocks to purchase because it is the amount or percentage that they will pay out to their shareholders annually.
Most of the revenue of 2013 has been brought by the Media Networks and Parks and Resort segments, bringing in 20.36 and 14.09 billion USD respectively. The other three segments, studio entertainment, consumer products and interactive have brought 5.98, 3.86 and 1.06 billion USD respectively.

For some parents, deciding on a school for their children can be a difficult decision. Many parents do not spend much time thinking about it; they place their children into the local school designated by where they live. Others attended a private school themselves and found that it was a beneficial experience and therefore want the same for their kids. But which is better: private schools or public schools? While there are many advantages and disadvantages in each (nothing is going to be absolutely perfect), we are going to focus on the benefits of an education in the public school system, or in other words, schools funded by the government that are for anyone to attend. An accurate definition found in the Encyclopedia of American Education (1996) states: “Any elementary or secondary school under control of elected or appointed civil authority, supported entirely by public tax monies, and, with few exceptions, open to all students in a designated district, free of any tuition charges.” (780) These include elementary, secondary schools and vocational schools. Public schools are a good choice in education because they provide a wide variety of subjects to study, are diverse in their student body, available to everyone, yet can sometimes be misunderstood.
The market segmentation of Walt Disney is divided into five main segments as follows: media networks, theme parks and resorts, Walt Disney studios, Disney consumer products and Disney interactive (Carillo, Crumley, Thieringer, & Harrison, 2012). As Carillo et al. (2012) continues to explain, media networks encompasses cable, broadcast television and radio networks, aside from digital operations. ABC, ESPN, and the Disney channel are some of the constituents of media networks. Theme parks and resorts, as Russell (N.d) states, include the operation of the Disney World Resort, the Disneyland hotel, the Disneyland Park, the Hong Kong Disney resort, and the Disneyland Pacific
