Prisoners of War
The United States angers terrorists and other foreigners on a daily basis, but we find it hard to understand why. Examples abound and most often relate to ignorant decisions on behalf of the government concerning the welfare of these foreigners. The situation on the island of Cuba at the Naval Station of Guantánamo Bay has grown out of hand. Here, the U.S. holds the prisoners that it has captured as part of its war on terrorism in a camp. They hold ver 600 men there without contact with their home countries or families and without the legal consultation of a lawyer. President Bush classifies these prisoners as “enemy combatants” and the U.S. says that for this reason they can withhold their rights unlike a normal prisoner in the case of wars (Jost).
During an election year such as the current one, cases such as these must be taken into consideration before electing or maintaining a leader that might choose to find ways to bend the rules on human rights. The detainees of Guantánamo Bay have their rights as prisoners of war denied and the U.S. does not define them as such. Much evidence to suggest otherwise includes the type of enemies included in the detainees and the international laws suggested in the Geneva Conventions. The U.S. has done nothing illegal based upon the international laws that it has adopted. However, one rends to question whether the laws adopted or not adopted by the U.S. rightfully define the prisoners based upon what has been laid out by the founding fathers of America. We can hardly assume that they do.
Before anyone can make judgments upon the rights of the detainees, it must first be decided upon what these men can and cannot be considered. The men held at Guantánamo...

Alexander Hamilton remains to be one of America’s most important people. Not only was he the first secretary of the treasury of the United States, he also was one of America’s founding fathers. Hamilton believed that a strong central government should rest on a solid financial foundation. The creation of the first national bank was to support this idea. Today’s young Americans face strong peer pressure to be sexually active and engage themselves in risky behaviors (Merino 100-109). Anyone deciding to have sex must first think about all the risks involved. Kekla Magoon, author of Sex Education in Schools, says that “half of all teens aged 15 to 19 years old in the United States have had sex” (Magoon 64-65). It is currently not required by federal law for schools to teach Sex education and those few schools that do teach Sex education have the decision to determine how much information is allowed. Advocates from both sides of the Sex education debate agree that teens need positive influences in order to make practical decisions (Magoon 88-89). Opponents of Abstinence-only education believe it fails because it does not prepare teens for all the risks of sex (Magoon 64-65).

Altough Gray admired Corbusier’s work and took inspiration from him especially from his ‘Five Points of the New Architecture’, their philosophies had fundamental differences, which became clear when Gray continued her architectural work. Gray did not agree with his famous dictum that a house should be a “machine for living”. This was evident within the E.1027 villa, a modernist structure but with playful elements. Although Corbusier was the master mind behind ‘Five points of the New Architecture’, Gray was actually the first to take action and put these points into place within the planning of her E.1027 and this is what sparked the bitter jealousy Corbusier had towards Gray. A woman in a male dominated world of design had created this fine piece of modern architecture. Gray was self thought she had no qualifications in architecture, she was known as a designer of furniture and interiors. Was Le Corbusier threatened by her?. After Gray and Badovici had separated in 1938 Badovici had invited Le Corbusier as a guest at the villa. Although her admired E.1027 and at one stage even wanted to purchase it. He ignored Gray’s wish of keeping the villa free of any decoration and vandalised the pristine walls with offensive and garish murals in an act of sabotage. The murals were a way for Corbusier to mark his territory and his presence. There is a photo of Corbusier himself painting the walls of E.1027 naked. Since the HIV/AIDS epidemic began in the U.S. in the early 1980s the issue of sex education for American youth has had the attention of the nation. There are about 400,000 teen births every year in the U.S, with about 9 billion in associated public costs. STI contraction in general, as well as teen pregnancy, have put the subject even more so on the forefront of the nation’s leading issues. The approach and method for proper and effective sex education has been hotly debated. Some believe that teaching abstinence-only until marriage is the best method while others believe that a more comprehensive approach, which includes abstinence promotion as well as contraceptive information, is necessary. Abstinence-only program curriculums disregard medical ethics and scientific accuracy, and have been empirically proven to be ineffective; therefore, comprehensive sex education programs which are medically accurate, science-based and empirically proven should be the standard method of sex education for students/children in the U.S.
He wanted to explain what modern is to him in his own buildings and tell us a story for each one. When he was younger he had a couple of architects that he followed and admired, but then went on his own path and did his own thing to show what it meant for him and how he sees modern. Today there are some architects that look up to him and enjoy his method of designing, using his techniques to build buildings now. When I look at some buildings today I see a little of Le Corbusier designs elements in the building, which are the five points of new architecture I think that it’s amazing that were still using his design. The five points of new architecture is a key devolvement in this modern design, and to see that in this building today is just remarkable. Unfortunately he didn’t get to see the end result of the building because of health issues, but I’m sure he was proud to design this building in North America. At the height of the Second Empire, Paris was one of the leading centres of capitalist culture in Europe during the mid-nineteenth century, made possible by the city’s reconstruction. The modernisation of Paris initiated an unprecedented method of urban planning under Baron Haussmann. It is this concept of modernisation that people immediately think of in terms of Paris and modernity. This focus on Haussmannisation, however, obscures the fact that Paris was already changing before Haussmann, as was evident in the arcades that sprung up during the 1820s and 30s. Plans of renovating the city were already being thought of in order to manage problems of overcrowding, diseases, social upheavals and infrastructure collapse. However, these plans were never realised; it was the small business owners—or the petit bourgeoisie—who saw to the creation of the arcades that drove the changes made within the urban landscape of pre-Haussmann Paris.
Frank Lloyd Wright and Le Corbusier are two very prominent names in the field of architecture. Both architects had different ideas concerning the relationship between humans and the environment. Their architectural styles were a reflection of how each could facilitate the person and the physical environment. Frank Lloyd Wright’s Robie House, is considered one of the most important buildings in the history of American architecture and Le Corbusier s Villa Savoye helped define the progression that modern architecture was to take in the 20th Century. Both men are very fascinating and have strongly influenced my personal taste for modern architecture. Although Wright and Corbusier each had different views on how to design a house, they also had similar beliefs. This paper is a comparison of Frank Lloyd Wright‘s and Le Corbusier ‘s viewpoints exhibited through their two prominent houses, Frank Lloyd Wright’s Robie House and Le Corbusier’s Villa Savoye.
