An Integrative Approach to Teaching Writing
If you have come to help me you are wasting your time. But if you have come because your liberation is bound up with mine, then let us work together.

Teachers of writing have begun to move from thinking about writing as a product with rules, to writing as a process with an authentic, individual voice, to writing as a system of social and political actions. Many feel the need to align themselves with one perspective against the others, but, "Unless we take into account these differences in perspective, we will be unable to establish sufficient common ground for moving the discussion forward" (Lindemann 288). Rob Pope, in his English Studies Book, explains that, "Most undergraduate English courses now have a considerable variety of emphases—Literary, Linguistic, and more broadly Cultural" (1). But how do we decide which emphasis to make? The answer lies in how we see the world, and why we teach writing in the first place. Borrowing indirectly from Physics, I want to examine a quote that may shed some light on what kinds of thinking are behind these different emphases:
A unit of experience can be viewed as a particle, or as a wave, or as a field. That is, the writer can choose to view any element of his experience as if it were static, or as if it were dynamic, or as if it were a network of relationships or a part of a larger network. Note carefully that a unit is not either a particle or a wave or a field, but rather can be viewed as all three. (Young, Becker and Pike 122)
Thus, the way we see the world has enormous influence over the way we see the teaching of writing. Some see writing as a product (static particle), some as a process (...

...as saying that we are here on Earth to help each other. It is the purpose of democratic education to make us sharply examine every aspect of ourselves, to find out where the story we tell ourselves no longer works for us and create one that works better for the benefit of everyone, and not just those who are already in positions of power.
Service learning is also one tool that can be used to integrate all of these discourses into something that can be implemented into individual classrooms, composition programs, and even as a tool to bring the different disciplines together into a more integrated University. This way, higher education can be less about creating students ready to accept and contribute to the world they live in, and more about empowering people with a critical understanding of the world around them, and giving them tools to create a better one.
In the fall of 1759, Rogers and two hundred rangers trekked 150 miles through French-controlled wilderness to attack the Indian town of Saint Francis.1 The action was a stunning model for future special operations raids. The ability to materialize where not expected and strike a blow changed the dynamic of the war. The British has gained the offensive and it was the French and their allies who had to fear the darkness at civilizations edge.
Even though the study of the deterioration of pteropods in high acidity water may seem unimportant in the grand scheme of the ocean, it is crucial to start somewhere. In this case the pteropods happen to be one of the most obvious examples of marine life that will be influenced by the ocean acidification. It is without a doubt clear that ocean acidification is an up and coming problem that will change the chemistry of the ocean and not only the effect the ocean’s ecosystem and creatures, but most likely the rest of the environment as well. Even though there is copious amounts of research available concerning ocean acidification, it is unclear whether model predictions will come to fruition in the future, or if actual results will completely differ from projections. Currently, the only clear path to try to delay the progression of ocean acidification is to reduce carbon dioxide emissions exponentially. The chart below (Fig. 5) gives a concise and detailed account of what is happening, what will happen and what needs to happen if ocean acidification is going to be
The functional area of service-learning is currently emerging as an acknowledged department at an institution of higher education. The theoretical roots of service learning go back to John Dewey, and the early twentieth century. However, current research on service-learning pedagogy dates back only to the early 1990’s. Best practices for the field are still being created as more and more new offices are springing up on campuses throughout the United States and institutions internationally. The reason this functional area is becoming ever popular is due to the positive impact it has on students and most all educational outcomes.
According to Runciman, there are many plausible reasons that students and other people don’t enjoy writing. Evidence, assumptions, and language and tone are the basis for which Runciman makes his argument. Overall, this argument is effective because reliable and well known sources are used in a logical fashion. Also, the assumptions made about the audience are accurate and believable. Runciman used his assumptions wisely when writing his claim and in turn created a compelling, attention capturing argument. The article was written so that students and teachers at any level could understand and easily read it. This argument is interesting, captivating, relevant through its age, and can relate to students and teachers at almost every academic level.
I have always known that writing was not my strong point. Entering writing 101 in September I was very much afraid. I knew that the expectations would be very high for this course; thus it would be more difficult than any other writing class I had previously taken. At first writing was a nightmare for me, but thanks to the assistance from professor Smart and my tutors, I have improved drastically in my writing skills and, as a result I am now a better writer. During the course of four months, I have learned so much. There were a few bumps in the way throughout the semester, but I managed to overcome them. It is hard to believe that my journey in writing 101 is coming to an end. Through my hard work and dedication, this class has helped me to build confidence in my writing that will help me throughout my college life.
The Society for Experiential Education defines service learning as, “any carefully monitored service experience in which a student has intentional learning goals and reflects actively on what he or she is learning throughout the experience” (Staton 1). Service learning is a great opportunity to get extra learning experiences while also experiencing the community around the universities campus. “Service learning allows students to apply what they are learning from their instructors, peers, and readings to genuine tasks that occur outside the four walls of the classroom while simultaneously helping others” (Staton 1). Universities are using service learning to expand beyond the classroom and provide students with experiences that will benefit them in the future. Service learning provides students with some fundamental aspects of life that can simply not be taught in the classroom. Service learning is a very beneficial tool in expanding on class room topics in the real world.
The rise in China from a poor, stagnant country to a major economic power within a time span of twenty-eight years is often described by analysts as one of the greatest success stories in these present times. With China receiving an increase in the amount of trade business from many countries around the world, they may soon be a major competitor to surpass the U.S. China became the second largest economy, last year, overtaking Japan which had held that position since 1968 (Gallup). China could become the world’s largest economy in decades.

As we can see the main colors used in the poster are Gold and Red which fits with the theme of the movie which is about different pirates . The gold color can refer to golds and jewels that pirates in the movie are after it and the red color can connote to plundering ships and destroying lands which is what this movie is all about .
In the race to be the best, China is clearly outperforming the United States. China has strong economic fundamentals¬ such as “a high savings rate, huge labor pool, and powerful work ethic” (Rachman, Gideon. "Think Again: American Decline). Their economy has grown an astonishing 9-10% over the past thirty years; almost double of what it used to be decades ago. China is also the “world’s greatest manufacturer and its greatest market” (Rachman). The continuing growth of China's economy is a source of concern for not only the U.S. but surrounding nations as well. One could argue that the U.S. need not worry about China’s growth because of the spread of globalization and that western ideologies would influence China to turn to democracy. Yet China has still managed to “incorporate censorship and one party rule with continuing economic success” (Rachman) and remains a communist country. Hypothetically, even if China does resort to a democratic state, this does not gua...
China is one of the main viable candidates as this century’s new world power. Today, it maintains a strong economic stance within the international market, and is expanding at a rapid pace. The United States cannot maintain its position as hegemon for the rest of humanity; just as how ...
We have seen or experienced many ups and downs in relationships, but what does it take to make the perfect intimacy in a couple today? Before we reach adulthood, we've been through a lot of change mentally and physically mainly at our peak teenage crisis, where we indulged ourselves in seeing someone at a younger age, thinking she/he could be the perfect soulmate, but it has never been the case - probably 2 out of 10 have made it through to their expectation. The bond that was created sounded so profound but was at its highest flaw in many different angles, maybe due to our teenage immaturity. However the effectiveness and experiences gained from our past have made a great impact about our knowledge in bonding the intimacy with 'the other half' later in life, but while some are still looking for the perfect soulmate, others are finding it hard in pursuing their love relationship.
Compared to the state of affairs during the Cold War, the world has greatly changed; indeed, the current world is quite dynamic. In recent years, the emerging markets led by China have been challenging the existing world order dominated by the Western countries. The dominance of old powers is rapidly diminishing and in fact, they are dropping down the international pecking order. Economically, the South East Asia countries account for more than half of the world Gross Domestic Product, have the highest economic growth rate (China leads with 11% growth rate p.a. closely followed by India at 9 percent) and they energy consumption is more than half the amount consumed in the world. It is predicted that in the next three decades, China and India will have attained the status of global powers and they will be competing for world leadership with the United States of America.
A variety of groups are concerned in bank profitability for various reasons. The bank shareholders would want to know if the value of their investments is high or low. The investors also use current and past performance to predict future price of the banks’ shares traded on the stock exchanged. The management of the bank as trustee of the shareholders is evaluated and compensated on the basis of how well their decisions and planning have contributed to growth in assets and profits of their banks. Employees of bank also are concerned with profits, since their salaries and promotions are frequently tied to the profitability performance of their banks. Depositors use bank performance and profitability as indicators of security for their deposits in the banks. Finally, business community and general public are concerned about their banks’ performance to the extent that their economic prosperity is linked to the success or failure of their banks.
