Workplace Violence
According to the FBI, workplace violence is the number one growing homicide in the United States. There are an estimated 225,000 to 300,000 occurrences of violence each year. Despite the aforementioned statistic, some managers have simply failed to address the issue of workplace violence. Such negligence has not necessarily been purposeful. It has been due to a lack of awareness of the problem coupled with a preoccupation of everyday pressures.
Many managers view workplace violence as just another workplace scourge such as sexual harassment--another governmental compliance burden. Unlike sexual harassment, workplace violence has resulted in people dying and that is precisely why it must be stopped.
Sadly, far too many perpetrators have been allowed to come to Afull blossom@ right under the nose of a manager. For example, statistically, Athree-quarters of documented perpetrators showed warning signs. With the aforementioned statistic in mind, this paper will show some aspects of workplace violence that managers should look for in both their employees and their organizations, so as to spot and prevent workplace violence.
Profiles
Profiling potentially lethal employees or perpetrators is an exercise in both art and science. There is no question profiles can come in many forms and that many potential workplace murderers will not match any defined profile. Nonetheless, there are patterns evident in the behavior of workplace violence that make the effort of profiling them worthwhile and important to any organization.

In America guns have been a part of the country’s society since it’s birth. Throughout history the citizens of the US have used firearms to protect the nation, protect their families, hunt for food and engage in sporting activities. The issue of Guns and gun control is complex. Weighing the rights and liberties of the individual against the welfare and safety of the public has always been a precarious balancing act. In the United States, gun control is one of these tumultuous issues that has both sides firmly entrenched in their positions. Those parties in favor of gun ownership and the freedom to use and keep arms, rely on the fact that the provision for such rights is enshrined in their constitution. In this climate of growing violence, rife with turmoil and crime, gun advocates feel more than ever that their position is justified. As citizens of the “Land of the Free” possessing a gun is a fundamental right, and may even be a necessity... Anti- gun lobbyists point to the same growing violence and gun related crimes in an effort to call on the government to take action. By enacting more laws and stricter control, these people not in favor of guns feel society would be better safer.
Black separatists are said to be a group of people that “believe they can never optimally advance socially, politically and economically in a white-dominated society, believing that whites are inherently evil and oppressive and will never treat blacks as equals.”(Chiedozie, Anjus) Some think black separatists are anti-white and anti-Semetic, which means the discrimination against white people and Jewish people. The Nation of Islam is a good example of a black separatist group. They are led by Louis Farrakhan, which some people think he believes that white people were created 6,600 years ago by a renegade black scientist. They call them “blue-eyed devils” who prey on blacks. (Southern Poverty Law Center). This is not all true. The Nation of Islam is a religious group who have their own views on things. Farrakhan is seen as a racist but in reality he speaks his mind on things that he believes in.
Typically when we immediately think about modern hip hop and rap, we immediately de-fine it as a creative mode of expression laden with influences from its African-American roots. Nurses encounter various challenges in the workplace. One of the most alarming trends is that they often become the victims of physical violence. It should be kept in mind that healthcare settings account for about 60 percent of all violent assaults that occur in various American workplaces (Gates, Gillespie, & Succop, 2011, p. 59). Additionally, more than 50 percent of nurses report that they suffered from physical abuse, at least once (Gates et al., 2011, p. 60). A company can suffer serious implications if they don’t introduce policies in the workplace that protect employees from becoming a target. Research indicates the relationship between horizontal violence and the burn out rate of registered nurses to be epistemologically significant due to a determined prevalence of nonphysical violence in the health care setting and the potential nature, severity and ubiquitous state of its prospective consequences. This systematic review will examine the aforementioned phenomenon in further detail with a focus on specific implications, if any, on the burn out rate of registered nurses.

The US Department of Labor defines workplace violence as “An action (verbal, written, or physical aggression) which is intended to control or cause, or is capable of causing, death or serious bodily injury to oneself or others, or damage to property.
