Critical Song Analysis of Blowin' In the Wind
In Our expressive arts class we are studying the topic the 60’s. We
were asked to analyse the song “blowin’ in the wind”. The song
“blowin’ in the wind”, was a very popular song in the 60’s and was
written by a man called Bob Dylan.
Born May 24th, 1941 in Duluth, Minnesota, Bob Dylan was destined to be
a star. His original name, however, was not Bob Dylan. His first name
was Robert Allen Zimmerman, but changed it later, when he began to
record. But long before Bob Dylan's recording days he was a young man
with the ambition to be a musical icon. And it all began in the early
forties. Bob started writing poems at around the age of ten and soon
also taught himself to play the piano and guitar. His musical
inspirations were stars like Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, and
Little Richard. After he graduated high school, he was soon off to the
University of Minnesota in early 1959. Here in University is where the
thought and drive of becoming of musical artist formed. Dylan had
begun to listen to folk and rock music. Dylan around this time had
begun to master the harmonica and adopted his stage name "Bob Dylan".
It is still unsure where he got the name "Dylan" from, but it is
presumed that the name was taken from a popular poet named Dylan
Thomas. The next year he dropped out of school and made his way to New
York. Bob Dylan began playing amazing material at local coffee houses
and was seen often in the company of many popular upcoming artists.
This is the time that he also began to write his legendary folk songs
of the sixties. Such was his song for his hero, Woody Guthrie, called

be easily understood. As a pop song, its simplicity is vital because
it captures the spirit of the civil rights movement without over
exaggerating the issue.
I could use this as a stimulus for my 60’s presentation by talking the
song and making a story along the lyrics. From the song I have found
many hidden issues, which I could use as a base storyline for my
performance. I have also seen how to communicate to the audience about
certain issues through hidden messages, and also to relate to the
audience, by using such devises like asking questions. We could also
just use the song in our actually performance too. I could use the
different themes I found to use as scenes for my performance. These
were: violence, rights for people, slavery, and political issues.
There are over thirty genres of books in the world. All of stories are told and written in many different forms from written to spoken, action to romance, or fiction to non-fiction. But, all stories have something in common--a theme that is intended to make a difference to the reader. No matter what the story is about, it is centered around a strong theme. The author of The Things They Carried, Tim O'Brien., uses a separate theme in each of his vignettes. But, these themes aren't always depicted through truth. "I'm forty-three years old, true, and I'm a writer now , and a long time ago I walked through Quang Ngai Province as a foot soldier. Almost everything else is invented"(171). O'Brien uses story-truth and happening-truth in The Things They Carried to show a great theme. In certain cases in the book, story-truth shows theme better and happening-truth isn't used and vice versa. In the vignette "The

Instead of solar power making a comeback as the ideal form, we are seeing a growth in the use of wind power. Wind farms are beginning to crop up all around the country. This new trend has gathered significant attention. Questions are being raised concerning the effects wind farms may have, from critics and supporters alike. Michelle Nijhuis, in the article “Selling the Wind” discusses the arguments on behalf of and in opposition to the increasing use of wind power, addressing what the consequences may be on the United States.
In the short story “Time and Again” by the author, Breece D’J Pancake recounts the story of a veteran farmer who is a snow plow driver for a living. The nameless narrator is a widower and his son disappeared. Reading the short story for the first time it is apparent that the author makes it a challenge for their reader to understand the story. The story at first is confusing and leaves the reader questioning the character. After a second or third read, it is noticeable that the author sets clues and makes it more obvious that this is a story of a murderer. The author often uses clues and the use of syntax to expose who the narrator is as a character and how that influences his actions.

Recording artist Kanye West, could possible be considered the most controversial rapper of all time. Kanye speaks on topics relating to him and his culture in his music. West grew up with a mother who was raised during the segregation era, meaning that he has many extreme views on fairness, and equality in America. In Kanye’s career, along with his amazing music and creative image, he is well known for his public outbursts, and his hatred for the media and the paparazzi. West stands up for what he believes in, and is sometimes selfish of his feelings. This track was included on his sixth studio album entitled “Yeezus” in 2013.

Most of the responses are positive, but when you look at the author John Newton’s life you will start begin to understand the gist of what he is saying and the meaning behind them.
What makes people or certain things Icons? A Icon is a person or thing regarded as a representative symbol of something. During the Black Arts Movement one of the questions brought up was if Black people should change their views as to who and what our Icons and Symbols were. In the book JuJu Magic Songs for the Black Nation which written by and but together by Askia Muhammad Abu Bakr El-Toure, he points out many different Black people that can be called Icons and Symbols for us. He follows the Black aesthetics of Larry Neal who points out that we as a community need Icons and Symbolism to help find ourselves.
The song that I choose to do this assignment on is Fight the Power by Public Enemy. Fight the Power was written in 1989 and quickly became a street anthem for millions of youths. It reflects with issues dealing with both the Civil Rights Movement and to remind everyone that they too have Constitutional Rights. This particular song is about empowerment but also fighting the abuse of power that is given to the law enforcement agencies. It gave citizens of the U.S a more modern outlook on the many struggles that not only the African American community is up against but the other minority groups as well.
