Mike Tyson
Mike Tyson, the youngest ever heavyweight boxing champion of the world
was born in a ghetto in the state of New York. His Father departed
the family home two years after his birth, leaving his Mother to raise
three children with very limited financial means. Subsequently, his
Mother found a new partner who was abusive and violent. She then
turned to alcohol in an attempt to escape from her existence.
Michael, now aged five years, felt neglected and unloved by her but at
this time he was unaware that his Mother was suffering from terminal
cancer. (Gutteridge & Giller, 1996)
Tormented by older children because of his high-pitched voice and
clothes from a school charity group, Tyson learned quickly that he
could retaliate against the bullies if he physically assaulted them.
(Gutteridge & Giller, 1996) Tyson joined street gangs and was arrested
for thirty crimes ranging from theft to assault before the age of
twelve. Sentenced to a Juvenile Delinquents Centre for two years for
mugging a young female, Tyson spent his time in prison learning the
sport of boxing. Upon release, Cus D’Amato, a boxing manager and
promoter, legally adopted Tyson and provided a stable environment and
family atmosphere. “The following five years were the happiest and
most contented Tyson had ever felt”. (Hoffer, 1998, p61)
While Tyson was working towards winning the junior Olympic
championship, D’Amato died leaving Tyson feeling devastated and
alone. Turning professional a year later, Tyson went on to win the
world heavyweight boxing championship aged only twenty years old.
Once again, Tyson’s behaviour became increasingly errati...

Jesse Woodson James was viewed in two ways; a modern Robin Hood and a killer. He was born in Kearney, Missouri on September 5, 1847. Some people say it was the cruel treatment from Union soldiers that turned Frank and Jesse to a life of crime during the Civil War. During the Civil War, at age 15, he joined Quantrill's Raiders, a group of pro-Confederate guerillas. He was part of the Centralia massacre in 1864. He is also known to have been a spy for the rebel army.
William Harrison Dempsey, better known as Jack Dempsey, was born on June 24, 1895. He was born in Colorado but became a “nomadic traveler” when he began his boxing career in the small rickety towns of his home state (“Biography”). At the age of sixteen, Dempsey started training to box. To support himself and his dream, he dug ditches, picked peaches, traveled with the circus, and cut timber (“Fast Facts”). When he started his career as a boxer he fought under the name “Kid Blackie” (“Biography”). He won the heavy weight championship by knocking out Jess Willard in 1919 (Smith). He kept this title until September 23, 1926 (“Fast Facts”). By the time he retired his record was 60-7-8. Fifty of his sixty wins were knockouts (“Biography”). Dempsey died on May 31, 1983 at the age of
Remnick goes into some detail about Ali's private live, including his religious conversion, his connection with Malcolm X, and his brief marriage to and divorce from Sonji Roi. He lets us in behind-the-scenes on some sports-writers, as well as on Norman Mailer, Angelo Dundee (Clay/Ali's trainer), and the bout between world champion Floyd Patterson and contender Sonny Liston. His primary focus, however, is on Clay/Ali's fight with Liston after Liston defeated Patterson.

Jack Johnson began boxing at a young age. He was known for his unique boxing techniques and quickly worked up the ranks until he beat all those who challenged him. Throughout this period he challenged whoever was the World Heavyweight Champion of that time. Each champion denied Jack's requests, stating they would not fight a black man (Film).
James Braddock took his father’s lessons to heart when he practiced fighting in the old schoolyard before he reached his teenage years. He practiced for several years to be an amateur fighter. When Braddock first started boxing he avoided professional competitions for two years. Instead, they froze the title, which means Braddock earned money touring the country giving public appearances and boxing exhibitions. In 1926, he entered the professional boxing circuit in the light heavyweight division. Braddock started out well, knocking out opponent after opponent in the first few rounds.
If i can have thousands of people cheering my name, if I could have my whole country on my back and make a name for myself, then one person I would want to be is Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. Not only is he a bright, young, and strong boxer, he is an elite fighter that has courage and guts to do what people think is impossible. “Canelo” Alvarez is young prospect rumored to be the next king of the world. If I can represent Mexico in a good way then I would want it to be in the name of “The Pound for Pound Champion of the World.” Saul is strong and smart when it comes to fighting, he’s young and has so many people that look up to him, and best of all, he has so many years of fortune to make his life even greater.
Jesse James was born in Clay County, Missouri on the Fifth of September 1847. His parents were Zerelda and Robert James. They were hemp farmers that owned six slaves, but most people wouldn’t know that. They only know him as an outlaw. Nevertheless, the name “Jesse James” is one that almost everyone has heard, even though he has been dead for over one hundred years. (Defeat n. pg.) Now, although Jesse James was a traditional outlaw in many respects, his legend perseveres as an icon of American culture.
It is clear that this moment in his childhood stuck with him throughout his life and eventually manifested into something that would change the way he would look at things. As technology progressed we were able to watch “slow-motion replays showing us the precise angle of a grotesquely twisted ankle and a quarterback’s contorted face at the exact moment he is concussed” [Almond]. Watching this violence would stir any soul would it not? The beauty of morals is that it is seldom black and white but rather many shades of grey. This violence to me could be perfectly acceptable whilst to Almond it is absolutely unacceptable. People could be okay with the violence in football but not the violence in boxing. The grey area in these situations lies in the individual 's knowledge and compensation of said risk. Yes professional athletes are prone to serious injury but they are paid a handsome amount of money to compensate for such danger. Not only is there money involved but there is quite a bit of fame as well. Playing professional football can open many doors for a young aspiring athlete. In life there are many unknown risks and factors that come into play. If you are given a choice to do what you love knowing there are risks and be largely compensated for it that is hands down a win in my book. It doesn 't
Muhammad Ali was a man made to box. He had a great career before him since he made his first professional fight under President Eisenhower presidency. His Professional Career was really impressive. His had a great balance and was able to move his hands and feet in great speed and coordination. Ali was said to dance in the ring while destroying his opponents. Ali started fighting at a very short age, and his first teacher was Joe Martin (Hauser 18). Through hard work and discipline, he became a professional fighter and eventually the Heavyweight champion of the world. Although he lost the title twice, he regained it three times, putting him in the history books. His boxing career was put to an end when he started suffering from Parkinson's disease. This was the end of his boxing, but his greatness will never die.
Martin started Ali working out in Louisville’s Columbia Gym, and Ali became passionately devoted to the sport. With the help of a black trainer named Fred Stoner, who taught Ali the techniques of boxing and to move with the grace of a dancer, Ali became a very skilled and deadly competitor. Between 1955 and 1960, Ali had participated in 108 bouts, in which he won six Kentucky Golden Glove titles, two National Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) championships, two National Golden Glove crowns, and received the Gold Medal in the light heavyweight division in the 1960 Summer Olympics held in Rome, Italy. Ali was only 18 years old when he won the Olympic Gold Medal by defeating Zbigniew Pietrzykowski, a tough fighter from Poland.
Mike Tyson is one of the most celebrated and notorious professional boxers of all time. Once a ferocious and feared fighter in the ring, Tyson is often remembered by what he did outside of the boxing ring during his career. His violent and aggressive outbursts have drawn in the attention of the media and fans around the world. Tyson grew up in an environment that facilitated his learned behavior of violence and aggression towards other people. The behavioral model of development will show how Mike Tyson was conditioned by other people and his life experiences to behave in an abnormal and dysfunctional lifestyle.
Cassius Clay Jr. or known to many people as ‘Muhammad Ali’ was born in Louisville, KY on January 17th , 1942 He was the first Heavyweight Boxer to win the Heavyweight title three times, his professional career lasted about twenty one years, in that time he won a total of fifty six fights. Most people do not know Cassius changed his name to ‘Muhammad Ali’ because of his religion, History.com staff.(2-4) Muhammad Ali’s early career before becoming a professional boxer, how he worked his way to become the Heavyweight Champion of the World, him converting his religion to Islam and his life after boxing.
Everyone has a goal of some sort, either it's making it to the varsity team or passing a test; their mission is to complete that goal successfully. In the John G. Avildsen directed film, "Rocky", we see an uneducated but kind-hearted Italian-American bozer that also works in a meat warehouse and as a debt collector for a loan shark in a tough neighborhood in Philadelphia. Avildsen demonstrates the struggles of Rocky Balboa as he reaches his goal of winning the world heavyweight championship from one of the best boxers, Apollo Creed.
