An individual must combine the personal, organizational, and cultural values and ethics that they have learned in life to be able to succeed in a global setting.
Values have been subdivided into instrumental values (modes of behavior) and terminal ones (values pursued for their own sake). Whereas terminal values are self-sufficient, and desired states of existence that a person strives to achieve (i.e., wisdom, a comfortable life, knowledge), instrumental values are modes of behaviors used day to day that help people to reach terminal values (i.e., being helpful). Personal ethics/values, tend to guide us as we walk and communicate in the world daily. People often ask what ethics are. There is no one definition. Every society and culture has a different way of interpreting and defining ethics; ethics is the development, understanding, and application by the way their own culture does things or the society norms. According to the Webster's Dictionary, ethics is defined as the discipline dealing with what is good and bad and with moral duty. I see ethics as the set of rules of conduct that reflects the character and the sentiments of the community. Ethics help us establish standards of honesty, loyalty, and fairness. Expressing one's personal take on ethics and life may not always be understood in the context of the world at large. There are four parts that contribute to an individual's ethics: cognitive development, work ethic, personality and emotion. Cognitive development refers to how a person thinks, perceives, and gains an understanding of his or her world through the interaction and influence of hereditary and academic aspects. The modern world has experienced tremendous changes, which have contributed to changes in people living in the global world. These changes have mainly been brought by globalization, which is a major phenomenon in the 21st Century. Leaders across various professions, businesses, and governments need to cope with globalization since it forces them to cross borders more often and communicate or conduct business with people from other cultures. This process involves developing necessary skills for working effectively in the modern complex world. Actually, the ability of these leaders to work effectively not only requires the development of essential skills but the application of leadership principles in the global work environment. In essence, leaders must develop their ability to apply leadership principles across culturally diverse workforce in today’s global work environment.

These are the ethics and values that I believe apply to my personal, as well as, my professional life. In my opinion, ethics is the representation or replica of one’s own actions, whether, at work, at church, or at home. These principals have been learned by doing what is right and learning from what is wrong. My personal code of ethics are the values that I was taught, as a child and that I have tried to live by since then.
Ethics are the principles that shape individual lives in modern society. It is a subjective idea that seems to have a standard in society. Ethics and morals are the major factors that guide individuals to make right and wrong choices. Something that is morally right to one person might be the very opposite of what another person would view as right. There are many factors that can trigger a change in an individual’s view of morality.
All of the choices we make are influenced by our socialisation which helped shape our values and beliefs. In order to work effectively with clients, it is important for workers in the human services industry to have a firm grasp of who they are, what their values and beliefs are, a vision of their ideal future, the values of their profession, and what to do in the event of a value clash. This aids in providing clients with a service that is free of prejudice and helps workers practice ethical decision making. This essay aims to explore my personal values, beliefs and visions, before examining how my values align with core social work values, and finally looking at managing value clashes.

Ethics is a theory or a system of moral values and right conduct. Ethics are the very cornerstone that the church stands upon for right living and is a barrier from right and wrong. From the time that we were born into the world, many of us have been taught ethics in some form or another.
