Introduction

Martial arts has always been a tool for channeling negative energies within yourself such as stress, anxiety, depression and anger. From ancient Greece to the modern world, MMA has developed and been compiled by many different martial arts, mainly muay thai, kickboxing, classic boxing, wrestling and Taek Wondo. The training of martial arts is wholly aesthetic, the beauty of art.

History

The Roman gladiators were the first practitioners of pankration, a martial sport that combined boxing and wrestling techniques, the earliest and among the first mix of martial arts.

Even though it was mainly introduced for entertaining purposes, it was also a way to keep the warriors fit and ready for war. During this period, ambushes by rivals were common especially if warriors were unarmed, therefore, the practice of pankration was obligatory for warriors, to unravel the dependence on arms.

Respective components of MMA were spread around the world before becoming a mix, for example, muay thai which is one of the main elements of MMA, was practiced in China as far back as 200 B.C. in Siam. It was used for warfare but also became a spectator sport where entertaining kings were common.

In the late 1960s, Bruce Lee popularized the idea of merging the components of multiple martial arts in the western world through his system philosophy of Jeet Kune Do. Bruce had faith in a fighter who could adjust to any style, to be shapeless, to assume a character’s own style and not following an absolute structure of a fighting style.
