Recommended: similarities and differences between modern and ancient slavery

Slavery has continued to exist as an institution throughout human history and still exists in frequent parts of the world. Slavery means the loss of free will, it indicates that violence will be used to maintain control “over the slave, and it determines that the slave will be exploited, normally in some sort of economic activity, but possibly for sex or even as an object of conspicuous consumption” (_____). Nearly every culture and historical period has acknowledged slavery; it has been known and used at each time and place until today. Modern and ancient slavery are largely diverse in several traits such as its origins, jobs, and the freedom of a slave.
Throughout history, the origin of enslavement is viewed differently. The history of slaves covers a system in which one human being is the property of another; people can be bought and sold such as properties. Slavery was acknowledged and used in a variety of ancient civilizations such as Ancient Egypt and Ancient Greece. In the ancient world, there were dissimilar intentions of becoming a slave. Records of slavery go as far back in the 18th century, with the great pharaoh builder, Thutmose III who conveyed non combatant prisoners to be slaves: “returned from a victorious…with nearly 90,000 prisoners, which later on were formed into slaves" (Slavery). In proportion to the Egyptian population at that time, 90,000 prisoners was considered a large amount of citizens being captured; according to the Egyptologist, art historian, and author, Cyril Aldred, "The major source of slaves was war captives".
