Organizational Ethics Issue Resolution
All organizations have ethical issues, which need to be dealt with in a specific and timely manner in order to satisfy all of the parties involved. In an environment where companies are in a fish bowl and everyone can see everything, it is important to have specific rules and regulations in place. It is just as important for the employees to have well defined objectives and detailed codes of ethics to follow in order to behave according to the culture of their specific company. Without standards and a written code of ethics, managers would have a difficult time providing clear and consistent objectives to the employees. Some of the items, which need to be identified by management, include; Issue clarification, Stakeholder analysis, values identification, issue resolution, addressing objections, and resolution implementation.
An important ethical issue that comes up at my call center is called “camping out”. This is the act of manipulating the phone system in order to avoid taking calls. Call avoidance can take place by hitting the call work button and going back into available, which places the call taker back at the end of the line. There are many other ways to avoid calls, which are all considered “camping out”, and all are considered unethical at Verizon Wireless.
Kozier and Erb's (2015) refer to veracity as telling the truth. Sometimes the nurse is left in a dilemma whether to tell the patient the truth. The nurse is left with the question whether, to tell the truth which may cause anxiety or a lie that is likely to relieve anxiety and fear? In reality lying to the sick persons would rarely justify. It is important that the nurse to weigh any benefit derived from telling lies to the patient versus the loss of trust the patient can have the nurse and the anxiety caused by not knowing the truth

Simply defined a code of ethics is a set of core values designed to help professionals manage a business that is honest and possess integrity. For example, a code of ethics document should highlight the mission and the values of a business. As well as, illustrate how professionals should approach issues, the ethical principles based on the company’s core values, and caliber to which the professionals are held. It is highly critical that a company like the Cheesecake Factory withholds an ethical and socially responsive code of conduct.

Ethics programs ensure satisfactory relationships with all stakeholders by aligning with all of their demands and needs, and determine conduct with customers and relationships with regulators, shareholders, suppliers, and employees (Ferrell, 2004). Values are a core set of beliefs and principles, one or many. A number of factors contribute to the development of values. These include membership in a community or culture, attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors.

An organization needs to adhere to ethics in order to effectively implement its mission, vision, and objectives in a way in which offers a solid foundation to management and their subordinates to properly develop and implement its strategies. By doing so, the organization as a whole is essentially subscribing to one commonality that directs all of the actions of the employees of the organization. Additionally, it assists in preventing such employees from divergence in regard to the proposed strategic guideline. Ethics additionally ensures that a strategic plan is developed in accordance to the interests of the appropriate stakeholders of the organization, both internal and external (Jin & Drozdenko, 2010). Likewise, corporate governance that stems from various regulatory parties makes it necessary for organizations to maintain a high degree of ethical standards; this is done by incorporating ethics within the organization’s strategic plan so as to foster a positive corporate image for the stakeholders and general public (Min-Dong Paul, 2009).
Many ethical dilemmas are philosophical in nature, an ethical issue can be described as a problem with no clear resolution. In order to solve the issue or dilemma a consensus between the parties involved must be reached. There are several reasons to come to an agreement over an ethical dilemma, it is the basis for all aspects of personal and professional dealings. Each one of us is part of a civilized society and as such it is our responsibility to be rational, honest and loyal in our dealings with others. The work emphasizes that having business ethics and a code of conduct can be a preventive medicine. The intended audience is the general public, management team, large businesses that have yet to create and develop a code of conduct, and businesses who are searching for a solution towards resolving ethical dilemmas in their workplace. The relevance of this work to our topic is it’s unique outlook on how the code should not only be developed with HR and the legal departments with the only intention of keeping policies legal but to see it being navigated by top management. In Module 1, Kindred Todd faced quite a few ethical dilemmas that included her values and technical ineptness. The first predicament was tested her personal morals and ethics. According to, Cumming and Worley, OD practitioners are dealing more and more with value conflicts with powerful outside groups (Cummings & Worley, 2008). Kindred was immediately faced with the issue of knowing what was ethically correct but being told the unethical approach was the best in order to benefit the client and her job security. Although compromising is one of the many skills of organization developers there are still morals that should be followed on each assignment. Kindred, know that deceiving the clients was unethical, took the first step to working on behalf of the client and immediately involved her superior, Larry, to resolve a potential conflict In the project.
