Statement of Purpose for Tony Harper
“Never stop pursuing knowledge and education. These are things that no one can take from you regardless of what life throws at you.” This insightful piece of wisdom was offered to me by my grandfather, a professor at Northern Arizona University. He continually stressed to me that the attainment of knowledge and education are always worthwhile undertakings. For this reason I find myself unfulfilled unless some part of my days are spent actively seeking to further my current understanding of a given subject or endeavoring to learn a new one. I truly believe that no matter what unexpected events life creates, the educated person is always better equipped to adapt and thrive.
Education Background
After high school I wanted to find something both personally and educationally challenging. I joined the Navy and became a Naval Nuclear Power School student. This school is known to have one of the most academically challenging curriculums the United States Military has to offer. During my time in the Navy nuclear power field I became interested in computers and began informally educating myself on the topic of computers and information technology. I decided to pursue my undergraduate degree in the subject but not many university schedules conform to the needs of a full-time military member. Fortunately, the University of Phoenix was piloting several programs that allowed for the completion of an undergraduate degree with courses delivered entirely via the Internet. This enabled me to earn my Bachelors of Science in Information Technology and ultimately led to my commission as a Naval Officer.

...formation system is not something that is simply designed and implemented; it is a living system that will need to be continuously analyzed and adjusted to remain effective.
Final Thoughts
As a proud American sailor I truly want my Navy to be the absolute best that it can be. I believe that with the proper education, experience and personal tenacity I can help to keep moving my functional area, the logistics branch, in that direction. To ensure success I must be able to clearly communicate what is required to guarantee our decision makers, including myself, have the most accurate, current and easily accessible information possible. This information must be readily available to enable an efficient and sound decision-making process. I am confident UO’s AIM program will give me the added expertise I need not just to succeed in this endeavor but to excel in it.
Thereafter, I realized that I have a great deal of potential in the field of education, but I must further my education in order to realize that potential. I found that
We see the town of Hadley as well during the sequence. The wind blows the dying leaves form the trees. Noticing his return from the upstairs window is his friend Mitch with Kyle’s wife Lucy is shown sleeping in the bed. Kyle smashes the empty bottle against the wall and storms into the study as his sister Marylee whose eyes are spotlighted in the shot, listens from upstairs. Dead leaves are blown through the open door into the empty foyer as Marylee swoops down the long staircase. From outside, a gunshot is heard and an unidentified figure staggers out of the mansion and collapses. Lucy watches it all go down form her window and collapses, as the camera zooms toward a closeup of a desk calendar, reading Tuesday, November 6, 1956. The wind rifles the pages back to Monday, October 24, 1955, a year earlier, to flash-back to events that led up to the
Education is an ongoing process; remains through all the stages of life. Knowledge is deep-sea and one can never claim to have acquired all of it. Sim...
Learning is a continuous process and the day that you stop learning is the day that you start decreasing your rewards and lower levels of satisfaction. My ardent desire to acquire knowledge has motivated me to pursue higher studies at graduate level, and to take up a career in research in industry. I have taken this decision after carefully considering my academic background, profound interest in research and strong aptitude for problem solving.
“You will never know what you are doing until and unless you have done it.” ― Santosh Kalwar. (http://www.goodreads.com/quotes/tag/education?page=11) Throughout the 18 years I’ve lived on Earth, I have learned one thing. Life is nothing but trial and error. You can only learn by learning. You can only experience by experiencing. All my life I took something so vital for granted; pushing it away because I was afraid. I allowed myself to be held back by my trials. I let myself become my problems. I never took an open opportunity like this to better myself, until now. “The whole purpose of education is to turn mirrors into windows.” ― Sydney J. Harris. (http://www.goodreads.com/quotes/tag/education?page=11) My education is my future; a second chance I thought I’d never get. And I’m never turning back. That is what my education means to me.
People in the past did not stress value of receiving a higher education because it was not as indispensable as it is today. Now, people perceive others not only by their appearances, but by their accomplishments. Employers always hire people with the most education and experience. The majority of students are concerned about getting a higher education throughout the years. Nevertheless, some people question the purposes of getting educated, and consider it meaningless. The concept of education has a significant meaning. It enables one to take control of knowledge and apply it. It is education what prepares the mind to comprehend and learn important ideas. A higher education is very important for an individual's success in life. It offers students skills that prepare them mentally, physically and socially for the world of work later in life. A higher education should not be a choice, because it is the foundation of our society. It helps students with their personal development, provides economic growth, helps students understand and interpret the world around them, and affects individuals’ job positions. It will promote new interests, economic stability, help students understand others, and prepare better individuals for the future.
An education is something that one can keep for a lifetime. Acquiring a good education can affect one’s personal life, one’s community, and one’s entire generation.
As we transverse through the realms of imagination and connect with the world of reality, we build personal paradigms, few, which mould our future and stand the test of time. It was one such paradigm that was the reason and conviction behind my decision to opt for CHEMICAL ENGINEERING as my graduate major.
My education journey has been through some setbacks, but I have continued to push forward and conquered. I have felt that I have a fixed mind set and just am not capable of achieving some things. After learning the difference between growth and fixed mindset I have realized that everyone is capable of learning anything through hard work and dedication.
How do we get educated? To most, education is an arduous slog through school; starting with simple stories about naughty rabbits swapping bologna sandwiches. As we grow, we move on to more and more intellectual pursuits- onward to ancient kings being depressed. By the time we graduate we are ready for a life as a ‘productive member of society’. One may find themselves wondering where that shift is from ignorant to educated. Most people will tell you it comes when you graduate high school, some will argue that it will not happen until you become a parent, others will say it never happens. David Foster Wallace and Mike Rose believe that being educated is not a matter of how well you have been educated, but how you grow as a person. Mike Rose’s life experiences illustrate this perfectly.

The advancement of humanity requires constant effort to know the unknown. Chemists do the interesting job of studying the composition of matter and its properties. Investigating what constitutes the things around us and extracting the useful knowledge from it has always proved beneficial to mankind. I became fascinated by studying chemistry during my last two years of high school. Pursuing my interest, in 2006, I started my bachelors program at Taibah University. Madinah, Saudi Arabia, then in 2012, I started my masters program at Sacred Heart University with expected graduation in Dec 2014. In fact, the education at Taibah University and Sacred Heart University deepened my understanding of chemistry.
“Knowledge is power. Information is liberating. Education is the premise of progress, in every society, in every family” (Strong n.p.). Anywhere a person goes, there are people demanding that people have a certain level of education. This makes wanting to get into a certain profession hard to do. By going to schooling you can get yourself and education, but by no means necessary do you get an education by going to school. But the question lies in how you go about achieving both them, and increase in learning. There are times when you can get some school, but the education does not fully come. This could be from the lack of teachers, or the encouragement that you get. It also lies in how much enthusiasm that you put
As rightly said by Hippocrates “The life so short, the craft so long to learn”. I believe that a good mix of talent and dependability are a crucial and potent mix for success. Honing my skills with a Masters’ degree after completing my Bachelors’ Degree In Physiotherapy, I believe would help me develop an array of cross functional skills. Gaining technical expertise in the subject of physiotherapy and then whetting my skills during my internship, taught me to be precise and scrupulous towards every task at hand. Having successfully pursued this field for nearly 5 years, I believe that, if given a chance, these skills endow me with the knowledge to gain an opportunity to pursue higher studies at your prestigious university.
In a person’s life, they learn from everything around them, and take in everything that they see, and learn from all of it. Hopefully, they get a good result so that they may be able to make a difference in the world around them. I feel that I have to tools to make the changes that I want, and the knowledge to know how to make these changes. I look toward the future with a bright outlook, and know that to keep learning is the key to making my bright outlook the truth. For my future and the future of people younger and older than me, education will always be the key.
