Throughout this semester, I have seen improvement in my writing. Coming into this class, I was not confident in my writing and was hard on myself. Furthermore, I felt like my writing was basic and didn’t grab the reader’s attention. Despite me being unsure about my writing, I have strengths in choosing good quotes that support my topic. I have improved and learned that it is important to stay on topic and have proper citations. To my surprise, I have learned skills in English 1157 that will help me continue to improve my writing.

Reliable sources in an essay support the topic. In my persuasive essay, I used reliable sources such as the Washington Post and Forbes, and they have helped me strengthen my viewpoint. An essay topic can be something as crazy as why Americans should not celebrate Thanksgiving, but with great sources that support the writer 's point of view, a reader can be persuaded. At first in my persuasive essay I realized that you should not overuse one source because it looks as if your topic is not valid. I later used multiple sources in my final draft to show my professor that there are many sources to support my opinion. However, I have seen development in my writing that will help me continue to grow as a writer. In my first essay, “How to Get Away With Murder,” my professor left the comment “I really want to see what you like about the show. You tend to keep those positive statements to one sentence. We need to work on developing examples.” I can tell by my professors comment on my third essay, “The Dark Side Of Hollywood,” my writing has progressed because he said, “… this essay is very strong. It is supported nicely well researched and powerfully agreed.” In the beginning of this semester I regretted not dropping this class, however, I am glad I didn’t because I obtained essential skills that will help my writing
This trimester I began the class English 101 with mixed feelings. Depending on the topic and style, I could really enjoy writing. However, there were occasionally times where I just did not feel much inspiration, and consequently, my writing quality was not exactly remarkable. My previous course to English 101 was AP Literature, where I learned how to analyze writing and write powerful papers. Although, to my disadvantage for this class, the teacher was more concerned about content than presentation and grammar technicalities. I learned to create good ideas and responses, and while I did possess the ability to convey them with proficiency, I could not express myself at a college level. Nonetheless, I can happily report that I have acquired these skills throughout English 101, learning to curb my near addiction to prepositional phrases, in addition to halting my use of coordinating conjunctions to begin sentences. I find it pleasing to read and compare my first essay to my latest one, seeing all of the differences and enhancements. My writing has improved through the trials of in-depth analyses and short deadlines, enabling me to perform my best no matter the style or topic. As we worked our way through the semester we moved from the Change Project to the Public Argument. I was able to look back at how one essay was developed into multiple essays. The type of paper I was writing determined how I was able to persuade my audience. The audience of the papers changed throughout the semester making the way I developed my paper also changed. In one essay I used the sources to persuade the readers towards agreeing with me. In the other essay I used my own words and thoughts to grab the reader’s attention and have them agree with my point of view on the issue. While one essay was a more formal audience and another was more informal the both required persuasion and attention grabbers. One audience was grasped by the use of facts while the other was grasped by talking about experiences and explaining how the topic related to the audience. While the paper was different each paper required some type of persuasion.
Throughout this semester I have learned many ways of writing through two main essays literacy narrative and comparison and contrast. These two essays have taught me how to correctly fix my comma splices, thesis statements, and capitalization. I have engaged in numerous learning material during this summer class. Many times when I thought it would be hard to work on those three developments I never gave up. I gain more positive feedback from my teacher because he pointed out most of my mistakes I made on both literacy narrative and comparison and contrast essays to help me understand what is it that I need to work on. My development as a writer became stronger.
Weak skills that I began the class with have become strong and my strong skills have become stronger. Having the opportunity to write a variety of different essay styles has challenged me greatly to improve my writing techniques. Each essay I was required to write brought its own struggles for me. I had to draw on the information that was presented through the class as well as look to the textbook for guidance. To ensure I did well on each essay I thought about my topic, researched the topic, then began to outline what I wanted to write about. Finally, I would write the essay and submit a rough draft. English 102 has given me the skills and training I need to move on to other classes next semester that will require writing essays. I now have a confidence in my writing abilities that this class has given
Over the course of this semester I have learned a lot from my English 1302 class. Through the instruction of Professor Keck as well as the Pearson textbook and the writing handbook I have been instilled with devices that I can carry with me for as long as I am writing. I have not only learned how to better my writing but also how to write arguments that are not only strong but effective.
As I reflect on this semester, I can see a significant change in my writing habits. These changes have not only improved my writing in English 1010, but also my other classes. It did take some experimenting with my writing before I found what worked best for me.

Writing can be very frustrating; laying your ideas out on paper so that others can grasp the concept you are trying to convey is a very difficult task. In Writing 101 I have learned how to formulate good theses that are arguable and also how to validate articles that have to do with my topic. The most important element of a paper is the thesis statement. It captures the reader's attention and tells them what the essay is about. In the beginning of the Fall quarter I was unprepared for the class, and I was unsure what to expect from the class. Having no prior experience in college. I was very nervous about how I would fair in a real college class. Although I may have started the quarter with fear in my heart and a nervous mind that my skills that I have were not on par with that of a college level student, over time as the quarter progressed, I began to develop and improve upon my writing skills such as my the development and organization through my body paragraphs and the content that I include throughout the essay, but there are still aspects that I struggle and need to improve upon which are grammar and my reading skills. At the beginning of the class, I would use Google as the search engine and found news articles as my sources. I made sure the quotes used in papers were specifically from the candidates’ websites when discussing their ideas and points of views. For example, in my report entitled “The Mental Wall Against Trump- What Americans Don’t Realize is Best for America” I found appropriate sources that explicitly stated Donald Trump’s reasoning for a particular plan, “A nation that does not serve its citizens is not a nation. Before coming to this class, I lived in a fictional land where I envisioned myself as a phenomenal writer and believed all my work to be virtually flawless. As you could imagine, I received a rude awakening within the first few weeks of the school year. To think that I couldn’t turn in a rough draft and receive one of the highest scores in the classroom was preposterous! Although I no longer have the fantasy of thinking my work is perfection, I can say that I have learned a great deal and improved tremendously within these first few months of English 111. For example, understanding the writing process and how to set up a paper has had a terrific influence in my writing.
