From ancient times populations have associated a moderate consumption of numerous fermented drinks such as beer and wine with improved cardio vascular health with no scientific backing. In the past its been scientifically proved that excessive consumption of alcohol has lead to an increase in morbidity and mortality. In previous studies globally have shown positive results of moderate alcohol consumption, moderate alcohol consumption is defined to be 12 ounces of beer, 5 ounces of wine or 1.5 ounces of liquor depending on the concentration of alcohol present, the higher the concentration the lower recommended consumption quantity. Studies showed that alcoholic beverages produce beneficial effects on antioxidant capacity, lipid concentration and the ability of platelets to stick in the blood. Hence allowing for a reduction in cardio vascular diseases, which is defined to be a “heart and blood vessel disease” (American Heart Association, 2013). In this paper I shall examine and critically evaluate the benefits and consequences of moderate consumption of alcohol on human health.

Examining the benefits of moderate consumption of alcohol on human health. A person may suffer from an ischemic stroke are major causes of disability found within the elderly. There appears to be a complicated relationship between the two entities, since underlying cardiac conditions of any can lead to an embolism that is an “obstruction of an artery, typically by a clot of blood or an air bubble” (the free dictionary, 2000). As does diseases in the blood vessel within or prominently leading to the brain. A further study is required in preponderance of possibilities advocating that moderate drinking is associated with lower risk of ischemic strokes.
