Legalization of gay marriage has been a major controversial topic for a long time. Although, many people do not know what it means to be homosexual, most people do not know the actual definition of homosexuality and they do not know how difficult it is to be gay in this society. There are many reasons why people are against gay marriage and homosexuals all together. Most of the reasons are based on religious bias another big reason is being afraid of the unknown. Some smaller reasons are that being heterosexual is such a social norm now a day’s people are not used to the change. Also parents often time tell kids that homosexuality is not a good thing because of there own views. Gay marriage should be legalized because most of the people who have a problem with it do not form complete thoughts and do not have a real reason that makes it not okay. Finally, what it takes to get gay marriage legal in Illinois is more complicated then one might think.
There are many facts and statistics about gay marriage and the numbers are astonishing to read. Such as, only 11 countries currently allow same sex marriage and they include, Argentina, Canada, Belgium, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Portugal, Iceland, South Africa, the Netherlands, and some states in the United States. There are 38 states that have been able to ban homosexual marriage by constitutional amendments, state law, or both. Civil unions only grant some of the rights of civil marriages, but they do not get the important federal benefits or marriage. Some of those benefits include spousal support, medical decision making rights, hospital visitation privileges, and access to partners insurance. These facts and more are not right, because if the tides were turned heterosexual marriages w...

... gay marriage should not be as controversial of a topic then it is. Even though there are religious thoughts about gay marriage and homosexuality, people are getting that information from books that were written millions of years ago and they are not even sure of who wrote them. Even though people are ultimately afraid of the unknown and change, both, which are included in legalizing gay marriage. I believe that people should brush up on their knowledge of homosexuality, gay marriage, and what gay marriage would do to our society before they make create an opinion about the matter; which could ultimately affect the opinion of people around them. I also believe that love is love no matter what way you think of it, we are all humans who just want the same rights for everyone. Imagine if you were in a gay persons shoes, would you think the same way about gay marriage?
As an American citizen, a person should be entitled to marry whoever they choose, regardless of gender or sexual preference. Gay marriage is something that some people consider to be taboo while other people are very supportive of it; I am one of the latter. The ability to marry someone is a basic human right and it should not be taken away from someone because they love a person of the same gender. One of the main reasons that gay marriage is illegal in the United States is because of what the Bible says about it, regardless of the fact that the first Amendment of the US Constitution says that there is to be a separation between church and state. Approximately three point eight percent of the United States population is made up of people
Gay Marriage has been debated in many countries for a long time. It interferes with citizens civil rights so is therefore a major issue. Many gay couples today have come out and expressed their sexuality. Although many people are against legalization of gay marriage, I believe it should be legalized for the reason that it encourages strong family values, leads to the increasing number of child adoption, and is a citizen civil rights.
Legal marriage should be for everyone not just heterosexuals. Denying homosexuals the right to marriage affects them greatly in more than one way. Many people do not approve of same-sex marriage because it is against their own religion. The only people that benefit from this are the people that do not accept same-sex marriages. Marriage is supposed to be between a man and a woman according to some and could interfere if they adopt children. Currently there are four states that allow gay marriage. Civil unions and domestic marriage are both ways for others to argue against same-sex marriages but do not replace marriage. Allowing same-sex marriage in all of the states in the United States will not harm anything. Homosexuals are not hurting anyone if they get married.
Most people believe that they deserve the rights they are granted by the government. An upstanding citizen who pays their taxes, serves their community and abides by the law should be afforded the rights of an American. However, not all citizens are afforded equal rights. Gay and lesbians are constantly denied rights that are typically taken for granted by the average American. Specifically, gay and lesbians couples are denied the right to marry even if they are upstanding citizens. They are held at an unfair disadvantage simply because of their sexual orientation. This discrimination must end because gay and lesbian couples are law-abiding citizens too, who should be offered the same rights as heterosexual couples. Same sex marriage should be legalized because it is their civil rights, it encourages strong family value and leads to the increasing number of child adoption, and the same sex marriage also brings a lot of financial benefits.
When you think of America, you think of a land of freedom. A beautiful place where all is harmonious, equal, and peaceful. You visualize a world in which love is inevitable; a place of comfort where everyone has the right to marry their beloved ones. This in fact, is not the case with same-sex marriage. Same-sex marriage has been scrutinized throughout the nation, especially in America, for decades. I strongly support the idea that individuals of the same-sex should have the freedom and equality throughout their marriage just like anyone else.
Legal marriage is the right of all Americans regardless of their sexual orientation. Gay marriage is certainly a hot button issue. It invokes an emotional dialogue filled with passion, rage, hate and fear. However, at the base of it all, are two people who are in a committed relationship living normal and productive lives and contributing to society in a positive manner. This issue is being debated in every state of the union, and will eventually go to the Supreme Court.
The United States is known world wide for its civil rights and freedoms. Many Americans are appalled by the idea of same-sex marriages. What?s wrong with the idea of two people who care greatly for one another wanting to spend their lives together? The gay community is misunderstood because many straights are not willing to listen. These individuals would rather just be closed-minded in this situation and reticent to really think about what this means to the gay community and the country. Same sex couples are not asking for any special rights; they are just asking to be treated equal with opposite sex couples. The explanations given by many Americans against gay marriages are based on false assumptions and unsubstantiated arguments. However, the real and unspoken reasons many heterosexuals have against same-sex marriages are based on religious beliefs.
As of today 14 out of 50 states allow same sex marriage, all other 36 states have banned same sex marriage or doesn’t have any laws against it or for it. For years same sex couples have fought for their right to be able to get marry, and for years they have been shut down due to many reasons: religion, traditions, it’s abnormal, it’s not natural, it defeats the concept of marriage, children needs both a male and female role model in their life to be successful and many more.
Most people don’t realize what it means to be involved in a “[gay] marriage - it’s not about two people being gay: it’s about two people who love each other and who have decided to commit to each other for the exact same reasons any other couple would get married” (Macfarlane). The topic of gay marriage, and just gay people in general is a touchy one and people have many reasons for accepting or discouraging the way of life. Although some people don’t support gay marriage, it should be accepted by more people because it provides equal rights for gay couples, and offers them the benefits and advantages of a legal marriage.
There are many opponents of gay people as it is, and they all have their reasons to dislike the idea of permitting them get married. One of the main reasons is that the primary purpose of marriage is procreation. Because gay couples are unable to have children, they should not be allowed to marry (Schiffen 495). Another main argument is that the word marriage means the union of one man and one woman. This is a long-standing theme of most major Western religions. Under a proposed bill known as the Defense of Marriage act, marriage is defined as “a legal union between one man and one woman as husband and wife.” Furthermore, it defines a spouse as “ a person of the opposite sex who is a husband or wife” (What 1). Under these guidelines, it is quite obvious that gay couples would not be eligible for marriage. People against homosexual marriage also say that it is a person’s choice to be gay. Since the individual chooses to be a homosexual, they should not be given special privileges. Another argument that you hear is that these couples should not get married simply because of the torment and ridicule they would be faced with in their everyday lives. There are news reports from across America telling about how a gay person was beaten or killed just because they were looked at as different. Some of these people would end up the target of verbal abuse and maybe even physical abuse, just because some heterosexual people see them as different.
Gay and lesbian unions have been for a long time a subject that no one liked to discuss. For the last few decades, gays and lesbians have come out and expressed their sexuality preferences. Many believe that same sex marriage should not be legalized because it's against the moral. It's against the definition of marriage, which is considered as the union of a man and a woman as a husband and wife. Same sex marriage should be legalized because the way society views the union of lesbian and gays can a change. Another reason why same sex marriage should be legalized is that children that are issued from a gay or lesbian couple will be loved and raised in a family that is legally recognized under the law. Lesbians and gays also deserve to have the same rights as heterosexuals.
Why isn’t gay marriage legal yet? How does gay marriage affect people that aren’t gay? Why does it matter to those people? Why can’t gay people have the same rights as straight people? Gay marriage should be legal worldwide. Gay marriage or same-sex marriage is when a man and man or women and a woman get married. Same-sex marriage impacts society in different types of ways, some people are affected by it because they think it is against the bible, others seem to have no impact or problem with same-sex marriage. However for the gay community it affects them, because in some states they are not allowed to marry the one they are in love with it. Also it impacts them because there are groups of people against same-sex marriage and the gay community is constantly being judged by people opposed to same-sex marriage. Seventeen states have legalized same-sex marriage; Thirty-three states banned same-sex marriage. Same-sex marriage provides a more stable environment for children of gay couples. Legalizing same-sex marriage does not affect or harm heterosexual marriages. Marriage is a union of love, not a union of genders.
Marriage is the joining of a man and a woman, who loves one another and wants to spend the rest of their lives together. It is not the joining of two women or two men and I do not believe the society our or U.S. government redefine the true meaning of marriage. I am against same sex marriage because of the following several reasons. Gay marriages are unacceptable in my opinion because it goes against God’s words. God’s word is the truth and no one can change it.
Marriage is just one way for two people to show their love for another. Whether it is two men, two women, or a man and a woman, love is love. People against gay marriage do not have the right to deny people of showing their love for one another. Everyone deserves the same rights as Americans and also just as people. The United States of America promotes freedom, liberty, and justice for all people. Same-sex couples are many times not included when it comes to marriage rights.
John F. Kennedy once said, “The rights of every man are diminished when the rights of one man are threatened.” Same sex marriage should be legalized in the United States. The two main reasons for this are the unconstitutionality of denying same sex marriages and the fact that it is going against basic human rights.
