Should companies be responsible for unemployment caused by their information system? This argument had risen over the years among employer and employees. Hence several ethical point of view had been brought up to response to this issue where from ethical egoism point of view believes that companies should not be responsible for unemployment as with information system implemented they are able to benefit from a long term profit therefore this is a morally right action. On the other hand, act utilitarianism believes that an action is wrong to the extent that it decreases the total happiness of the affected parties and in this case it will causes a lot of upsets towards the employees and therefore it is believed that companies are responsible for their unemployment. With all these ethical theory rising up, Kantianism theory will be chosen to discussed throughout this article to respond to the issue.

The robots are taking over!!! This is the idea that Kevin Kelly stresses and elaborates on in his article “Better than Human:Why Robots Will-and must-Take Our Jobs”. The article focuses on automation in the workplace and how most of the jobs that are currently done by humans will be taken over by robots in the future. Kelly believes that this is inevitable and that it is a positive thing. While I believe that most of our jobs will be taken over in the future, I do not think that Kelly did a great job at trying to prove his point and his argument was mediocre.

For what has been a very, very long time, our elected representatives have sought to achieve “full employment” as a national goal….but full employment has been suspect as a possible cause of inflation, and is therefore weakened by decisions of the Federal Reserve, in an attempt to retard inflation. In terms of causes, unemployment has changed; the character, degree of severity, possible solutions of unemployment over the last ten years or so have been reduced, and has morphed in terms of just who is experiencing the unemployment and the suggestions for answering the problem. It has been the traditional fundamental trades, like manufacturing, viewed as part of the shift in the economy towards the new information age model, as workers transition from a manufacturing economy to a service economy, all the while over-coming the obstacles set forth by our own government.
This paper is briefing of book called “Race against the Machine” written by Erik Brynjolfsson and Andrew McAfee. This paper focuses on the impact of technology on the current employment issues. Three explanations of current economic issues that is cyclical, stagnantion and “end of work” is provided (Brynjolfsson & McAfee, 2011). Then the idea of excessive progress in technology making man jobless is presented and to support it various arguments are put forward. Secondly the idea of technology development causing division of labor into high skilled, low skilled, capital, labor, superstars and ordinary labors is presented and explained in detail. Finally remedies for solving these issues are presented and explained. Major takeaways of this paper are mismatch between the productivity and job creation, interlink between Technology improvement and division of labor and importance of education in building stable skilled labors and in the developing a stable society. I went to work right out of High School, making an hourly rate of $11.00 with full medical benefits, 401 K, and bonuses. Unfortunately, a good percentage of these companies have now relocated out of the country where the labor is cheaper or have gone bankrupt altogether. A variety of these jobs have now been replaced by robots or machines. For instance, at restaurants you order on a computer screen and a device is left on the table so you can run your credit card to pay the bill. Receiving an Associate or Bachelor’s degree that specializes in a particular field seems to be the only way to ensure ones financial future in this economy. He notes that from analysis, it was determined that the U.S. market is highly polarized from existing technology. Because of this polarization, it will be challenging for workers to find new jobs, if AI becomes more widespread and used.
