CHAPTER 1 – INTRODUCTION
1.1 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY.
Internet means a global computer network providing a variety of information facilities of communication, consisting of interconnected networks use the standard of communication protocols (www.oxforddictionaries.com). Internet was created in October 1969 in United State (simple.wikipedia.org). In Malaysia, internet expected to start year 1995 and increase the usage to public in year 1996. Among October to November 1995 through MIMOS study, found there is 20 thousand internet users in Malaysia and increase become 700 thousand in year 2000 and consequently almost four million in year 2004. Consumer can reach everywhere including at restaurant, coffee shop and various places more (Painter, 2001).
In the beginning, internet usages are limited to adult. Nowadays, usage internet is unlimited to adult only. The kids also use internet. For example, facebook. Facebook is a social site. Consumer of facebook comprises from various groups. They use the social site for various purposes Such as increase friends, make business, research for reference and others. For example, a student also really need internet to help them in learning. Internet can affect attitude of a person.
In this study, I want to focus on the implication of internet usage towards student’s attitude of KPTMKL.
1.2 STATEMENT OF PROBLEMS.
Internet will influence student’s attitude of KPTMKL
1.2.1 Students become rude.
Input from internet sometimes use language that is rough. For example, film from overseas that is downloaded and watch by students have dialogue that is rough. Students will be influenced and practise it when communicate indirectly will make they are rude.

According to Internet Live Stats, 40% of the world’s population has access to the internet today. In 1995, this number was less than 1%. The first billion was reached in 2005, the second billion in 2010, and the third billion in 2014. With these overwhelming numbers, it can be presumed that having access to the Internet has never been so easy. In fact, we are so conditioned to this technology that most of our tasks depend on it to be done. Nowadays, most of the school work is done online and when looking for a job a lot of times it is required to be computer savvy. Of course the internet is not all bad, but becoming so dependent on this can surely have severe consequences. CNN released an article evaluating internet addiction. According to this article, “A 2014 study determined that about 16% of 18- to 25-year-olds are involved in compulsive Internet use” (CNN, Adair). Psychologist Catherine Steiner-Adair further explains:
Education plays a key role in the development of one’s character and future achievements. The importance of education has elevated in numerous ways over time. The higher an education a person receives is expected to give an individual a better occupation and therefore result in more earned money by that individual. Human desires have led to the great want to achieve the best education in order to ensure that more then just the basic needs and wants are met by that individual, whether it is for themselves or for those that are dependent upon them. Hence the best education one can receive will contribute to the fulfillment of their desires and wants. In recent years the internet has played quite a major part in education. The internet has become almost more significant in the classroom then a piece of paper and a pencil, to a class. It has become more then just a resourceful tool for finding information it has become a means of a must have item. Such dependence is very detrimental to the educational process for although the internet seems to be everywhere, there are still many people, willing to learn, who lack such a resource.
Current technology increases access to the internet and social media. How individuals relate is being greatly influenced by the current technologies. People hanging in groups are more focused in their devices than with each other or their surroundings. Level of physical interactions thus tends to decrease among people who knew each other. Around the globe, there are increased reports of cases of individual overindulging in using the internet via various devices. The increase in the use of technology has greatly affected how individuals relate and interact with each other. A country like China, for instance, is currently experiencing increased cases of teenager being addicted to online gaming. Parents are more worried as they find it difficult to communicate with teenagers whose attitude become unpleasant. Internet addiction is considered a psychiatric disorder in some countries. The internet is an amazing invention. You can use it for research, communication, learning, entertainment, taking an online English class, and other things. The internet can affect our behavior, and our behavior on the internet can affect other people. Communicating on the internet can be a lot different than communicating in public. You can say anything you want anonymously on the internet. The things you say can affect others in positive, such as teaching, or negative ways, such as bullying. Social media has turned into a world of its own where people act completely different than they would in public.
...; nonetheless, it poses to be a great distraction to students and their peers. Bugeja, in his article, believes that until the ability to use technology is reassessed, issues regarding Internet use will only increase in higher education institutions. The rapid advancement in technology has taken over the classroom in a negative aspect and will continue to do so unless measures are taken to permit internet access for educational purposes only.
3. Is Internet harmful or useful for children? Internet can be more than useful. It helps children in studies; it’s very easy to find information with the help of Internet. There is no n...
Numerous people praise the Internet and its ability to educate young people. More and more schools are switching to online learning to help children academically. Studies have shown that educational games can help children’s visual intelligence skills (Subrahmanyam, Kaveri, et al. 128). Similarly, some research has found that computer use helps kids in their alphabet recognition, language, early mathematical knowledge and learning (Bremer 412). Contrastly, homework may contribute to academic and intellectual benefits, but the gains are relatively small compared to the negative effects of the Internet on mental health (Shields, Margie, and Behrman 10). Other research has shown that computers alone are not a sufficient replacement of actual teachers and classrooms. Several studies show the Internet to be a hindrance when it comes to academic achievement and cognitive development. Even computer learning software has been know to smite creativity (Bremer
Did you know that more than 76 percent of kids use the internet more than three to four times a week? Despite the fact that some internet site can display wrongful or misleading information, the internet can be a useful tool for educational purposes. In this paper, readers will discover reasons for how the internet can be helpful for children.
Like all other vices, students may use internet to overcome depression, worry, anxiety, hopeless feeling, bullying, anger, dishonesty etc. Students end up substituting peer friendships to spending time on the internet.
Over the last ten years, it seems as technology has slowly become a necessity. The online world has permitted people to create and present themselves online as whoever they wish to be. This trend has caught on with the younger crowd and has completely taken over their world. With multiple social media sites to keep up with, kids have the ability to tweet, chat, snap, and share at anytime because of how accessible the internet has become. The idea of staying online has occupied kids by connecting them to millions of people while slowing disconnecting them from their families. Overuse of the Internet is destroying the family.
Treat internet addicted students at Campus. At Santa Monica College, it’s usual to see students who are connected to the internet through their electronic devices. They can be divided to three different types of groups. One group who surfs on the internet to spend their free time. Students in this group use internet to watch a video, to check social network like Facebook, or Tweeter. The other group connect to internet to read their eBooks, or to do their online assigned homework. Finally, the last group is the students who use internet even in their class or in their studying hours. Doing more than one type of activities as the last group of students do, is multitasking which is very common among the students, and multitasking reduces student’s focus. Therefore, Santa Monica College should abolishes internet to prevent multitasking, and to avoid plagiarism which helps students to perform better, and more active in their classes.
The internet is full of many things that could make us smarter. However, the internet is full of websites, games, even photos that could very likely have a negative effect on children and their behaviors. Also their education, speech could become affected and they could start doing badly in school or start cursing at a young age. Another thing is that their attitude towards life changes, instead of seeing it as their own giant happy playground they can view it as a very bitter and cold place and start looking, feeling, and talking negatively.
A useful thing about internet is the electronic mail, as it gives us faster results than its regular and normal air mail. Internet gives information in any aspects of knowledge which is useful for student and for the business. Internet changes our life (and where sure to that). It gives us a lot of knowledge, advantages and disadvantage of course and we should be aware to that by using it and knowing what are those disadvantages. Though it gives a lot of advantages to us we should always look on the other side of it, for the reason of the social development growth especially to children. (Sonia79, 2005)
Students do things like write papers, access test and quizzes, and even visit their teacher’s web page where they find information needed for the course. This may seem easy to students who have always had internet in their home with a computer they can work on, but what about the students who have no idea what the internet is, or don’t own a computer or device they can to practice on. This is one of the key reason digital literacy is important. Students no matter the age or background should feel comfortable using the internet at school. They should always feel caught up in classes because if they don’t know how to it will be taught to them. Schools should make sure students are up to speed and no child is left
We now know internet can and will make kids smarter, and can cause harmful effects. Whether or not we decide to embrace the positives , technology will always increase and not decrease. (Osaretin,Nigeria 2005)
