Introduction From newspapers to Internet, the world media leaped tremendously over the years. It started as simple printing press, advocated for religious points of view, to mass media, communicating to large audiences through print media and electronic media. (GOVT 5 Student Edition. Edward I. Sidlow and Beth Henschen. 2013, pp.221). Dated back to 4000 B.C., the Sumerian stamp seals was the very first recorded evidence of “ancient media”. A cylindrical stone seal with holes in both end to place a string or pin that were used as administrative tool, jewelry, or magical amulet. Afterwards was linked to the invention of cuneiform writing on clay. This very first form of media gave way to modern writing, in which was used to express feelings, opinions, and oppositions via books, newspapers, and magazines. Throughout the years, these simple advocates made huge advancements with the help of modern technologies. Web surfing, e-books, televisions, and all these technological advancements played a vital role in our society. In the United States alone, the right of press is protected under the First Amendment of the Constitution. Therefore, making it one of the most important civil liberty. According to Sidlow and Henschen GOVT5 Student Edition, “a free press play a vital tool of the democratic process.” Additionally stating, “If people are to cast informed votes, they must have access to a forum in which they can discuss public affairs fully and assess the conduct and competency of their officials. The media provide this forum.” If that so, would the media be influence by anybody or any group, such as government officials, to do their biddings? Most of the mainstream Medias are owned by giant corporations, influencing the news coverag... ... middle of paper ... ... Web searching alone. Compare to the old days when they were limited. To make a good choice on where to find the most reliable source, always look for the facts. Just because information comes from a computer doesn't make it true.
