Introduction
Just imagine your day to day activities at work, home or school without the use of the internet and other Computer Mediated Devices? I am sure you will all be horrified if we were left without these necessities that have become an essential part of our every activity. Computer-Mediated Communication (CMC) has resulted in the concept of the global village which augers well for businesses by providing larger markets for products and services, increased production and creating stronger bonds within organisations. With this in mind it seems quite possible that in the near future CMC will eventually surpass and replace face-to-face interactions as the chosen form of communication.
We live in a technological age where constant changes and developing technology has enabled us to be able to sit in the comfort of our own home or office and be able to complete transactions from around the globe with co-workers, friends and family. Technology such as the internet and computers has encouraged us to work faster and harder at what we do.
No longer do we have to purchase a costly ticket in advance and clear our schedule for a week to attend a meeting or conference. The introduction of CMC has enabled companies to trade, to a wider market almost any product, from around the globe with the click of a button and also enabling decisions to be made faster at a cost efficient rate.

The implementation of virtual teams as a form of CMC would enable organisations to select specialised persons who can function effectively and efficiently within their organisation. Mangers will no longer have to settle for unqualified and inefficient labour that is only available locally. With virtual teams and specialised labour the perf...

...lusion I must say that as individuals we would only endeavour to move further and to improve our standards in whichever way that is available to us. With the use of CMC we can achieve these goals with greater speed, in a more cost efficient way, and become a closer, friendlier global society. CMC could possibly replace face-to-face interactions because we are rapidly becoming an advanced society who crave performance and effectivness. The only factor that prevents this inevitable change is time, the time that it would take for us to become aware and accustom.

Article begins explaining how this era has seen new uprising of online communications like e-mail, blogs, wikis and instant messages. Although, there are many more methods to communicate, Kinsey explains how face to face communications is still preferred within the business setting. It is the most product
People in today’s world rely too heavily on the convenience of new communication technologies including emails, texting, and social media. Whilst the importance of these mediums and the way to which they have transformed modern communication cannot be denied, the importance of face-to-face communication and the benefits it provides must not be negated. Communication is a key element of human nature and ‘we communicate for many many reasons, these can be simplified down to three; to persuade, to inform, and to express. (Harper 2014)’ Technology aids the efficiency and frequency to which information is shared but can diminish the three main purposes of communication; to inform, express and persuade, decreasing it's quality. This essay will discuss the benefits and the detriments that have arisen from the introduction and use of technology in regards to the three main purposes of communication.
Human beings have been “posting” information about themselves and their lives to an audience of their peers long before the advent of Computer Mediated Communication (CMC) and Social Media. Used colloquially, the verb “post” describes the act of displaying or submitting information through a digital medium (Random House Kernerman Webster 's College Dictionary, 2010). However, within the context of this paper, I will be using the term in a much broader sense, as in “to affix (a public notice or bulletin) to a post, wall, or the like’ or ‘to bring to public notice by means of a poster or bill’ as in ‘the notice was posted on the wall’ (Random House Kernerman Webster 's College Dictionary, 2010).” First, I will establish that the use of symbols
...ce interactions are intrinsically tied at the local and global scales. As workspaces become less tangible, and as social circles are no longer constrained by geographical boundaries, the content of our daily interactions grows to include people and businesses from all over the globe. As a consequence cyberspace is an active factor in the reshaping of our world that is growing in complexity as it accommodates virtual networks.
The article that I am doing my research analysis on is titled The Disclosure– Intimacy Link in Computer-Mediated Communication: An Attributional Extension of the Hyperpersonal Model. It focuses on the differences that attributions of self-disclosure on computer mediated communication (CMC) and face to face (FtF) interaction. In regards to communication, the article utilizes the social penetration theory, a theory which states that intimacy and self-disclosure are the main factors in developing interpersonal relationships(Altman & Taylor, 1973). With the social penetration theory in mind, research sought out to compare the result of self-disclosure on relationship intimacy in CMC as opposed to FtF interaction. The hyperpersonal model which explains that people communicating via CMC edit the way they present themselves, sculpting an ideal image in regards to the way they present attributions in development of interpersonal relationships. The hyperpersonal model is influential in this article and is the basis for the author’s theory on attribution. The authors hypothesize that: (H1) Relative to low self-disclosure, high self-disclosure leads to more intimacy in CMC than FtF interactions, (H2) Interpersonal attributions mediate the proposed intensification effect of medium on the disclosure–intimacy link, and (H3) the effect of self-disclosure on interpersonal attributions is greater in CMC than FtF interactions (Jiang, Bazarova, & Hancock, 2011).
Today Americans wake up in the morning to their automated coffee brewers, drive to work relying on their global positioning system (GPS), and arrive at work where they use e-mail, video conferencing, and numerous other technological devices all day. To say that technology has changed the way that Americans live their life today would be an understatement. Advances in technology affect many areas of the American life including entertainment, medicine, war, and home appliances.
Mediated communication, a form of communication carried out by the use of technology, is becoming increasingly popular in today’s society. Used carefully and in the right way, it can provide improvements in our daily lives, whether it be for work or downtime. According to Alder, Rolls, and Proctor II, some benefits include creating a “glocalized” world, meaning connecting people from all over the world, encouraging offline interactions, and minimizing the perception of differences (Alder, Rolls, & Proctor II, 2015, pp. 13-15). However, there are also cons to using this form of communication such as there being no body language to decipher how the person feels or what they are communicating, disinhibition, and lack of true privacy (Alder, Rolls, & Proctor II, 2015, pp. 15-16). What you put on the internet will stay there forever and the documentary Facebook Follies shows us just that.
Throughout the course of this class, and more specifically the process of generating an idea for my final project, I found myself drawn time and again to the way people interact with each other electronically namely the internet. Having been involved in computers and nearly everything related for the majority of my life I have experienced a number of different tools and applications from chat rooms to online games to instant messaging that provide a means of interacting with others in a number of different ways. This experience and other concepts and ideas that Ive either read about or envisioned stood as my foundation in deciding on and formulating this project.
Virtual teams can be seen as a team which is geographically independent and they use computer supported technologies in order to communicate and they are free from space, time and organizational boundaries dependency. The members of a global virtual team can be located in different parts of the city, country or the world...
Technology affects interpersonal relations in numerous of ways into day society. People often use the internet and many other devices to communicate. However, children's aren't playing outside as frequently like back in the days. Social events aren't as sociable as how it use to be. Technology has been affecting interpersonal communication through the means of social media, video games, and iPhones.
To remain competitive and employable in the twenty-first century workplace, society today must conform to the changing demands. Technology is one of the principal driving forces of the future; it is transforming our lives and shaping our future at rates unprecedented in history, with profound implications, which we cannot even begin to see or understand.
People in the present society have turned from the use of the old means of communication to the more advanced and technological ways of communicating. Technology has made it easier for people to communicate in a faster, efficient, and cost saving means through the introduction of the communication channels. The world has turned out to be the centre for technology with different technologies emerging daily as the people continue to develop from time to time to cope with the growing technology. The benefits of adopting the communication technology are explained in this article which shows why people do not function without technology.
The biggest and easiest seen change that computers have had on today’s society can be seen in the workplace. Before computers became an office tool and were made available to the average employee, paperwork and sharing information in an office setting was done by many different individuals constantly filing and looking up figures. Now a computer can store large amounts of information that is readily available to virtually anyone with the click of a mouse button. One person can complete a job that in a time before computers would take many. Computers have made file cabinets and libraries almost obsolete. Businesses can share information nation or even world wide in a matter of seconds. For example, a word document file can be sent from an office in New York to an office in Los Angeles in under a minute, in the past this same information would have taken a week to be sent through the mail. Computers have changed the way that factories are run too. On an assembly line, before computers every job, no matter how easy or difficult, had to be done by an employee. Now, however, computers run machines and do most of these tasks.
Technology has changed modern society drastically, both positively and negatively. Technology has influenced every aspect of our life, making it simpler but not necessarily better. Albert Einstein was concerned about the advancement of technology. "I fear the day that technology will surpass our human interaction."1 Undoubtedly, what has changed the most are communication, the spread of information, and how business is practiced. Consequently, practically everyone knows how to use a computer, connect to the Internet, or use a smartphone. This is demonstrated by the way the Internet is used daily by millions of people to communicate, to sell, advertise, retrieve, and share information. Thanks to the Internet, information from anywhere in the world is at our fingertips. As a result, the advancement of technology has changed our life in many ways including; sharing of information, communication, business, education, social interaction, simplifying everyday tasks, replacing basic skills and jobs.
The internet has revolutionized all forms of communication since the beginning of its existence. The world has now become smaller' or more like a global village', so to speak. The internet was first used by the U.S military for communications purposes. The internet, from the communication point of view, has brought on new developments and techniques to keep in touch not only for individuals, but for businesses as well. An example of how the internet has impacted communication would be an example of doctors now communicating through live video feeds via the internet with patients or other doctors to diagnose patients or to even guide and advise surgeons through complicated procedures.
