In this era of modern civilization, the consumption of Internet had become a huge part of one’s daily life. According to The new media’s profound influence in GE13 (2013), up to June 2012, the overall number of Internet consumers in Malaysia is determined to be 17723000 which representing 60.7 percent of the nation’s population, recorded by Internet usage monitoring website, Internet World Stats. Without any doubt, one of the reasons consumers use the Internet is online gambling. This cause makes people jump to conclusion and make negative comments that online gambling brings more harm than good. Although some opponents argue that online gambling may lead to addiction, it should not be banned because it helps in the development of the economy of a nation, it saves cost and time as well as it is a convenient and hazard-free way to gamble.
Online gambling as thought by many, may lead to a serious financial difficulties towards gamblers. This statement is true as the gamblers have higher tendency to borrow money from the loan sharks to manage their gambling debts and causes them to face the possibilities of being blackmailed by this group. According to The bane of online gambling sets in (2013), the families’ gamblers have to obtain help from politicians as they have to endure the impact of their gambling family members’ foolishness, particularly with loan sharks. This evidence is however weak because most people who gamble have successful lives and do not spend their money recklessly. The government should not only displays disadvantages but also advertise more on the advantages and benefits of online gambling to the community. This is to make sure that the community will not stereotypically reflects online gambling solely on the negative sides because a coin has two sides. Everything in the entire world has both the negative and positive sides. Thus, community should think prudently before jumping into conclusion.
In his article “internet addiction”, published in 2010 by Reason Magazine, Greg Beato tries to show how internet addiction, an excessive behavior brought up by the psychiatrist Ivan Gilbert, is an important issue for the society and why it should be considered as a behavior disorder. He supports his thesis by using a lot of evidence such as graphics, statistics, and researches. Although, Beato’s arguments about the causes of internet addiction and the reasons why it should add to the DSM are mostly true, some of his observations on the future are pessimistic.

Over the past couple decades, sports gambling has become a growing industry and a hotly debated topic. Yet the industry continues to expand and according to Jeffrey Roske, “Americans wager over $500 billion per year on sports. Of this staggering total, only $2-$3 billion per year are gambled legally within the state of Nevada…” (463). Roske’s evidence brings up

“Problem gambling, also known as gambling addiction or compulsive gambling, is defined as the urge to gamble despite harmful negative consequences or a desire to stop” (Northstar Problem Gambling Alliance 2015). Karen Frazier states, nearly 3 percent or 6 million adults and 500,000 teens meet the criteria for problem gambling (Frazier, 2015). Legalized Gambling has many positive aspects, and it should be noted that though a large number of citizens are considered “problem gamblers,” the majority of the population gambles causally and in moderation.
Gambling has been around since 2300 B.C. It has its positive and negative effects; it also has somewhat of a positive impact on the economy. It stimulates most communities by creating jobs and generates tax revenue for state and local governments. The gambling industry in “2002 and the commercial casino industry provided 350,000 jobs in the United States” (americangaming.org). Even though gambling can bring a lot of economic growth to the economy there is still an argument going on today whether it is a great choice to legalize it everywhere.

It is important to note however that not all forms of online gambling are virtuous. For instance, although someone gambling small increments of money online once or twice a week can be classified as virtuous; someone who gambles excessive amounts of
The adrenaline-rushing feeling of gambling offers people the idea that opportunity lies within their hands. Unfortunately, there are far too many consequences to gambling to even begin to count. To win you must play, and to win big you must play big. As more gamblers can recall their losses rather than their winnings, gamblers are often dealt with poor hands and must play the risky game to stay alive. Even though gambling has so many faults, some still fall under its corruptions because of gambling’s deceiving fallacies.

Should Gambling Be Legalized? Over the past twenty or so years, great wealth and improved economic and social conditions have been promised to the communities that have embraced legalized gambling. However, with twenty years of experience it is time to. look back and analyze whether this is true or not.
Gambling involves taking a risk. It’s something that gets our adrenaline pumping. Believe it or not, money is one of the major things that makes the world go round and some of those believe that money does indeed buy happiness in our lives. We all have heard the stories of those who have won thousands to even millions of dollars just by gambling and we instantly think that could be us. If some random person can be that one in a million, surely I can be too, right? Even though gambling is a fun thing to do, it is important to be aware of the kinds of gamblers that exist in today’s society and realize that gambling should be played in moderation. For instance, some variations of players include: The Social Gambler, The Professional Gambler, and
As previously mentioned, the issue at the center of the controversy or debate is morality or ethics. Morality or ethics has been at the heart of controversies regarding gambling because some people consider it as unethical. The consideration of gambling as an immoral act is largely attributed to religious beliefs and stigma of obtaining money relatively for nothing. Moreover, the ethical dilemmas and concerns associated with gambling is brought by the emergence of problem gamblers who account for nearly 2.1 percent of total number of gamblers (Kannon, 2012).
