"The Count of Monte Cristo" is a movie that has piracy, Napoleon in exile, betrayal, prison, secret messages, escape tunnels, comic relief, a treasure map, and sweet revenge, and brings it in at under two hours, with performances by good actors who are well known in the acting community. Jim Caviezel stars, as Edmund Dantes, a very poor second mate on a supply ship owned by his best friend, Fernand Mondego (played by Guy Pearce) and his family. This film is based in France during 1815 before Napoleon returns from exile to invade Europe. This Action, Adventure, and Drama film will keep you on the edge of your seats as you go through all the mixed emotions of Edmund Dantes. The film is directed by Kevin Reynolds who has also directed movies such as Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Waterworld and most recently on the History Channel, Hatfields and McCoys. It’s strange with this director that we don’t see Kevin Costner in this film, but I’m glad they kept him out. Jim Caviezel does a great job with his role. Edmond Dantes and his best friend, Fernand Mondego are childhood friends. It was always difficult to remain friends being that Dantes was very poor and uneducated. Mondego was from a very rich family. Even with Mondego’s wealth, he was always very jealous of Dantes as he was always happy with what little he had. Now older, Mondego has a chance to betray Dantes and have him sent away to solitary confinement on the remote prison island of Chateau d'If, he spends years slowly growing mad and growing his hair, until one day a remarkable thing happens. He meets a man named Abbe Faria (played by Richard Harris) who teaches Dantes how to read, write and become a skilled swordsman. While in the prison, Faria tells Dantes of a large hidden... ... middle of paper ... ...ot be as great as it is without him. Caviezel had a large challenge when he took on this role. He almost had to play two different characters and mold into one another throughout the film. His character changes greatly from before and after the prison. He did it well and I enjoyed his performance in this film. Sir Richard Harris who played Abbe Faria did a great job and was one of my favorite characters in the film. He did so well in fact, that every time since I saw this film, I will always see him as Abbe Faria in other films. I really enjoyed this film. I would highly recommend it to anyone who really enjoys a good revenge movie. This film will cover it all. I do plan on buying this film, framing it and putting it up on my wall. That’s how much I liked it. If you have not yet seen this film, you need to get up and go get a copy and set your DVD player to repeat.
In the Count of Monte Cristo directed by Kevin Reynolds Edmond Dantes is betrayed, deceived and imprisoned. After many years of mentorship Dantes gains the skills he needs to seek his revenge. Dantes is motivated through betrayal and anger seeks his well deserved, justified revenge.
The Count Of Monte Cristo begins with a sailor named Edmond Dantès. Edmond has a best friend named Fernand who is sailing with him on the Pharoan (Dumas and Celestine, 1). Faria is the first person that opens up Dantes’ eyes so that he can see who his enemies really are. When Dantes first meets Faria, he is overjoyed because he hasn’t seen another person, other than the guard, for years. Faria reaches Dantes by means of a tunnel that took him 3 years to dig with his makeshift tools. Even though he had limited resources, Faria made matches, a lantern, a ladder, and a knife. Faria hid all these tools behind two separate rocks in his cell. All of these things show how smart Faria really was. Faria’s intelligence is what helps Dantes make his transformation. “There is a maxim of jurisprudence which says, ‘If you wish to discover the guilty person, first find out to whom the crime might be useful.’ To whom might your disappearance be useful?” This quote makes it apparent to Dantes that it wasn’t just a big accident that he went to jail. When Dantes found this out, you could see an immediate change in his character.
You may wonder where should a person draw the line when it comes to revenge? In the book, Edmond Dantes is a hard working first mate on the Pharaon, and doesn’t do anything outside of the ordinary. His whole entire life changed within moments, and he went from having a good life, to being locked up in the Chateau D’if. After he realized that he had been wrongly accused of his treason, that’s when he drew the line.
In “The Count Of Monte Cristo”Edmond Dantes benefited from the intelligence that the abbe taught him in jail. Dante figures out that Caderousse, Danglars, and Fernand were plotting against him with some of the abbe’s help. This critical thinking late helps Dante escape.
When a person becomes trapped in a situation that stems from an individual with greater authority, being manipulative can be a very promising method to escape. The Thousand and One Nights does a very good job of being a good example of someone in this situation that uses stories within a story to capture encapsulate the attention of the reader. Despite the many little stories that go into the text, the main story behind it all is about a king named King Shahrayar and how he goes insane after catching his wife having sexual relations with a slave. After he sees this happen, he realizes that he can never trust any woman again and none of them are trustworthy. By expressing his views on women, he decides to marry a different woman every night, then the next morning have them killed by beheading. This is an ongoing event that brings death to most of the women in the village. Soon after, the king’s Vizier’s daughter, Shahrazad, came up with a brilliant idea that will end up saving her fellow countrywomen and hopefully keep the king from murdering so many innocent people. Her method behind all this is by telling the kind a different story every night that leaves him on a cliffhanger, making him curious enough to keep her alive for another day to continue her story. Shahrazad keeps herself spared from the king because of her cunning, and compassionate personality.
Yet after being publicly humiliated, Villefort rushes home in hopes that she has not poisoned herself yet, only to discover that she not only killed herself, but there young son, Edouard. “He began to feel a mounting horror at being alone with those two corpses. A short time before he had been sustained by rage and despair, but now his head was bowed by the crushing weight of his grief, and he, who had never felt pity for anyone, went to see his father in order to have someone to whom he could relate his misfortune, someone at whose side he could weep” (Dumas 484). Villefort ascribes himself for the death of his son, and goes mad with grief and remorse. One can see now, that after Villefort imprisoned Dantes, Dantes gets his revenge, after becoming The Count of Monte Cristo, The Count releases Benedetto from prison and gives him a new name and status in the Parisan society by forging his birth. Benedetto, known as Andrea Cavalcanti, is “son” to a major in the army, and now when he is to be tried in court, much of Paris’ citizens come to

“All the best people have some kind of scar,” says Kiera Cass, the author of The Selection series. Dantès received many painful scars throughout the story, “The Count of Monte Cristo.” Pain was first introduced into the story of Edmond Dantès when he was pulled away from his new fiancé, and put in jail based on a false allegation. While he was in jail, his pain grew tremendously, as he anguished over his separation from Mercédès. Initially, Dantès used this pain to encourage himself that he would be released from prison. After years as a prisoner Dante made a friend with a neighboring prisoner, Abbé Faria. As their relationship grew their bond strengthened to the point that Dantès saw Abbé Faria as a father figure. They secretly spent all

While Edmond did not directly cause the deaths of half of the Villefort family, he set the event s that led up to it, this is an example in which Edmond is not directly guilty of the crime
Masayki Suo directs a film that combines social and psychological depth, with an intriguing depth and a number of comedy bits, thus managing to present a pictyre that is both highly entertaining and provides "food for thought." Along with the wonderful performances of Koji Yakusho
This is a plentiful and fascinating movie, wonderfully captured, that demands your attention, only thing I would change about it is the length of the movie, it is nearly four hours; the longest movie I’ve ever watched. I also figure out which war it was for a while. I really enjoyed the war scenes, the battles are commanding. I can tell that this film took years to make, a lot of characters and many scenes; also considering it to be an old film, the technology probably made it a longer process to create the film. It also does a great job reflecting the main character with great mystery.
There is no mere man capable of exacting revenge without consequence, though it is hard for some to overcome the past without closure. In Alexandre Dumas’ novel, The Count of Monte Cristo, Edmond Dantes, and later the titular count, is torn between a pursuing vengeance against enemies who had him wrongfully imprisoned for fourteen years and reinventing himself with the riches he obtained shortly after his release. Though Dantes begins a genuine, hardworking young man, his imprisonment in the Chateau d’If allows the seed of revenge to fester in his heart. Dumas illustrates the conflict between Dantes’ begrudging his false accusers and letting go of the past through the employment of a reversed baptism in Dantes’ escape from prison, the juxtaposed personalities of Dantes’ aliases, and his later regret for the innocent victims claimed upon his revenge-scheme’s fruition.
