To be socially responsible, an individual or a group has to take a stand and lead, along with behave with a sense of strength and caring in order to do what’s right. This entails multiple sections of individuals, such as students, companies, and communities. Each party can be socially responsible in their own way, based on how they feel and what it takes to keep what they believe in, in check. It all comes down to a balance; in order to be and act socially responsible one must strive on being positive. An individual falls into the same category as a large group of people, because it only takes one to make a difference. That difference can be the smallest or the largest difference taking only one person to do something right for the people they care about and are surrounded by. This individual can be a man or woman, powerful or ordinary, but its who will listen and follow along that will change a situation for the better. For example, a student has the social responsibility to behave a certain way around others without affecting anyone. Behaving with respect, will gain ones respect. This statement goes to show that a student but act with respect to gain the respect of a professor. Individuals have the choice of being socially responsible but when it comes to being a student, it’s written in the student handbook on how one should act socially. Doing the right thing isn’t always the easiest choice to make but we as people have the social responsibility to do what’s right for those we are surrounded by. As a student goes to college and some tend to work in an office to pay off loans, they are making a social contribution to society and the company that they work for. Switching off the lights or turning off the computer ... ... middle of paper ... ...ourself with. Speaking out against racial, economic, or societal discrimination are aspects that need to be taken care of. This is all what it means to be socially responsible. Believing in something and standing up for what is right, to not let others bring you down. It could be as radical as fighting for the rights of people-of-color, or just working with non-profit organizations. It’s the way look at it and put yourself in a situation, because everyone has a choice. The choice to do the right thing and be proud of what you’ve accomplished or to stand on the sidelines and watch while others get credit for something you should be getting credit for as well. Being socially responsible is apart of life and the way you look at it. It’s being a good person and trying to the right thing for yourself and for the people around you in the hopes of more will follow.
Proper respect for others begins by a person respecting their self. Respect is developed by expressing honor, leadership, value, and trust in a person. If everyone respects everyone someday, the world will become a seventh heaven. It is important to be respectful for safety, to abide by the law, because children are influenced by their elders’ actions, and because God says so. Motivation from peers can help a person realize there is always room to improve the level of respect a person exhibits. Respect was, is, and always will be a positive attribute for everyone to strive for in their lives.
Responsibility is a lot of different things and has many different parts. One part of responsibility is social responsibility. Social responsibility is being responsible for people, for the actions of people, and for actions that affect people. Social responsibility is about holding a group, organization, or company accountable for its effect on the people around it. When you do the wrong thing, many people pay for it, especially everyone that you know.
It seems like every time that I log on to any one of my social media accounts, I get stopped during my leisurely scroll by one or two of my friends posts that has clearly been typed out furiously from the heart. These posts are typically created by my friends of color, both male and female. They are speaking about how racism is still very present today because they have each personally been affected by it. It is absolutely mind blowing that we are in the year 2016 and we are still witnessing people of our same species being discriminated against because of their race and/or gender. Beverly Tatum believes that “our educational institutions should do what they can to encourage this development rather than impede it” (Tatum 370).
In this world we are constantly being categorized by our race and ethnicity, and for many people it’s hard to look beyond that. Even though in the past many stood up for equality and to stop racism and discrimination, it still occurs. In this nation of freedom and equality, there are still many people who believe that their race is superior to others. These beliefs are the ones that destroy our nation and affect the lives of many. The people affected are not limited by their age group, sex, social status, or by their education level.
So before we go in greater detail on the different perspectives related to social responsibility, one might question the meaning of social responsibility. It is generally agreed that social responsibility is defined as the business obligation to make decisions that benefit societ...
Over the course of this semester, among all the different perspectives, two that stayed on my mind the most are the social problems perspective and the social responsibility perspective. While both of these perspectives are similar in that they both cover theories about crimes, they differ greatly in the way in which each suggests crime occurs. The social problems perspective provides that people are not actually responsible for their actions, but rather that their actions were the result of a failure of society to prevent the problem. For example, towns often create after-school programs to help keep children off the streets and out of trouble. However, towns that do not have such after-school programs often report higher rates of teenage crime as well as unattended children. Children are naturally curious and even mischievous. After-school programs that help to keep the children busy and involved in activities report to have lower occurrences of vandalism and gang activity.
I was aware of these oppressions and have often times struggled with what I can do individually to work towards alleviating these oppressions. The Next Steps portion of the chapter on racism really outlined methods of actions that could be applied to all forms of oppression. One method entitled “FLEXing Cross- cultural Communications,” outlines productive communication, depersonalization, and open- mindedness when it comes to understanding and practicing competency. This model serves as a tool to motivate action to those form other cultures in ways that in the end everyone can
In recent years, companies are becoming socially responsible and now stakeholders almost expect a company to have CSR policies. Therefore, in twentieth century, corporate social responsibility (CSR) became an important development in public life (Barnett, ND).Corporate social responsibility is defined as “the ways in which an organisation exceeds the minimum obligations to stakeholders specified through regulation and corporate governance” (Johnson, Schools and Whittington, N.D cited in March, 2012). Stakeholders can be defined as “those individuals or groups who depend on the organisation to fulfil their own goals and on whom, in turn, the organisation depends” (Johnson, Schools and Whittington, N.D cited in March, 2012). There are many purposes for this essay, the first purpose is to descried the key principles of corporate social responsibility and explain their importance for stakeholders. Secondly, is to show how far this company follows those principles in order to be accountable to at least three of its stakeholders. In this essay, three stakeholders, environment, customers and employees will be evaluated respectively and the key principles of the stakeholders will be examined.
Social responsibility is the part of the framework of an organization or individual which makes up an obligation to act for the benefit of society. There are many different ways act out social responsibility. The social responsibilities of a business can be classified according to the businesses relationships to the general public, customers, employees and investors. The companies that make their product or service with the rooted mindset of benefiting the community and the world around them do this by providing things like scholarship funds, all natural products, biodegradable storage, and or just by treating the consumer as well as the employees as individuals rather than a corporate dollar sign. Businesses may exercise
The intention of socially responsible projects is to empower its user; the result seen in use within the intended system must satisfy the objective of helping the user and therefore providing the community with economic gain with minimal harm to the environment writes Melles et al
Despite “doing the right thing,” there are things that can happen beyond our control that can alter the good results we were expecting. However, consequences are measurable and create lasting effects on people. Even though we may intend to do the right thing, a positive outcome is not guaranteed. Sometimes our actions do not just affect us personally, they can also have repercussions for other individuals, such as members of our families. Intentions, on the other hand, cannot always be determined. While someone might claim that they acted with good intentions, that is not always necessarily the
I believe one person can make a difference. One person can speak out, one person can stand up for what they believe in, one person can take action and one person can change the lives of others. I believe with all my heart in the power of individual people to make the world a better place.
The first is the respect of others. "Others" includes your peers, teachers, parents, and everyone else. It is adding a ma'am or sir to the end of a sentence. It is obeying in class and not being rowdy in the hallway. It is the respect of their ideas and what they stand for. It is what brings people together, and if not used, it is what can tear people apart.
In every religion there is a distinctive understanding of value and duty, of right and wrong, and of good and bad. Modern Christianity is no exception and believes in each of these things. Christians know there is only one God and he created and rules over all things. They know that it is through Gods grace and love that we may have eternal life. That love and grace does not come without a price. The price is a life that is lived for God. It carries with it certain ethical and moral responsibilities to the community and all mankind. Those moral and ethical responsibilities are the backbone for society.
However, there can be more definitions about what Corporate Social Responsibility can be. For example, Corporate Social Responsibility can be the commitment which is continuing for a business to behave ethically and bring to economy the development to improve the workforces’ of the whole society and local community and their families’ quality of life. Corporate Social Responsibility is also known as the obligation of a company to serve the society’s interest and of course its own. With the help of the Corporate and Social Responsibility, social and environmental concerns companies can integrate into their business and stakeholders operations.
