This film revolves around the world of an immigrant from Cuba by the name of Antonio “Tony” Montana. Along with his very close friend Manolo “Manny”, their goal is to live the American dream, which is to leave Cuba, relocate to America and become filthy rich. Tony’s mother and sister Gina are already in the States and currently residing in the state of Florida, where he plans to go and reunite with them. He eventually does and introduces Manny to the family. Right away Manny seems interested but keeps it to himself. They ultimately fulfill their goal, through organized crime, and are spoiled with wealth from an absurd steady income.
Over time, Manny’s feelings for Gina increase but he doesn’t want Tony to find out because of Tony’s protective state over his younger sister, also for his respect towards the family. Tony is the type of older brother that is bred on tradition and feels that Gina should not be dating until she is ready to marry, but Gina grew up in the States and is raised beyond tradition, therefore becoming defiant towards Tony and their mother.
One distinct evening, Tony and Manny head for the Babylon club, a well-known formal place where they and many famous people usually go. Unexpectedly, Tony finds Gina in the club dancing with someone he does not know. Then he catches them in the men’s restroom making out. Tony becomes furious and creates a scene in the club beating Gina in the restroom, after he deliberately instructed her not to go. This is just one of many incidents that occurred in the film.
In time, Manny and Gina were growing more and more attached to each other and started dating secretly without anybody knowing. A few months go by and they have decided to get married, so they did without the approval of Tony and their mother. The couple’s initial plan was to surprise Tony the following day of their wedding. Tony suddenly shows up at the newlyweds’ new home where the couple was about to spend their honeymoon. Manny answers the door in his bathrobe excited to tell Tony the good news. Suddenly he sees Gina in the foreground in her bathrobe, immediately Tony pulls out his nine millimeter hand gun and shoots Manny, his long time friend, in the chest. Gina dashes up to Tony crying hysterically, explaining the surprise they had planned.
The film tells two distinct stories. The first story is a light hearted ethnic comedy about the growing friendship between an Italian American (Bruno, a man with little positive to say about illegal immigrants finds himself working with one in this film) and a Mexican immigrant (Ignacio) both struggling with their co-dependency for each other and the stronger need for a paycheck. The second story tells us about just how uncertain the life of a migrant worker can be.
Malcom comes up to Tony after the meeting and gives him a book to read called “The Greatest Miracle in the World”. Gary – is a guy that Malcom introduces to Tony on his first day out of jail. Malcom asked Tony to meet Malcom at the lighthouse for a run on a Saturday morning at 6am and he would bring his friend
Maria had no authority over her restless family. The source of the conflict between Antonio and Maria originates from her oldest sons taking to going where they please and not caring about their parent’s wishes. The burden of pleasing their parents passes from the eldest sons to the youngest one. With the sole duty of pleasing his parents, Tony internally rebels against their wishes instead seeking to set to rest his churning mind by seeking his own beliefs. His brothers console themselves about abandoning their family by saying that “Tony will be her priest” (Anaya 36) and not knowing that the “dreams of their father and mother [haunt] them” (Anaya 36) also haunted Antonio. Having the responsibilities of his brothers and his family shape the way he grows and thinks. He isn’t just thinking about himself he also has the problems of redeeming his family on his head. Through the story and through Ultima Tony realizes that he is not bound by obligations and can instead shape his own

This movie is based on changing the lives of Mexican Americans by making a stand and challenging the authority. Even when the cops were against them the whole time and even with the brutal beatings they received within one of the walk out, they held on. They stuck to their guns and they proved their point. The main character was threatened by the school administrators, she was told if she went through with the walkout she would be expelled. While they wanted everyone who was going to graduate to simply look the other way, the students risked it all and gave it their all to make their voices

In the film, we follow Miguel “Sugar” Santos’ journey from an academy in the Dominican Republic to the United States to play Major League Baseball. Sugar had to overcome multiple obstacles including leaving his home, a language barrier, and also the grueling path of minor league baseball before his dream could become true. These hardships ultimately cut Sugar’s journey short of the final destination, but it was not for nothing. In the end, Sugar found the american dream to still be true in a different scene. While his baseball dream did not come true, he found his niche in carpentry. He personified the american dream by working hard and becoming successful. The perfect narrative did not come true for Sugar, but he still proved the american dream to be
A genre is a type or category of film (or other work of art) that can be easily identified by specific elements of its plot, setting, mise en scène, character types, or style. (Goodykoontz, 2014) The gangster film is a sub-genre of the broader genre of crime film. A genre main objective is to classify the depiction of entertainment. The genre of my movie is a gangster film. My movie I chose was Scarface. Directed by Brian De Palma. An update of the 1932 film, Scarface (1983) follows gangster Tony Montana and his close friend Manny Ray from their trip on the Cuban Boat Lift for refugees to their arrival in Miami. (Scarface, 1983a)
The film is concentrated on Mexican-American nationalism and immigration. In the beginning of the film, the main character sees himself more of an American rather than Mexican. He speaks fluently in English but does not know how to speak or comprehend proper Spanish. This is an example of involuntary language loss. Rudy, the main character, who was born and raised in Los Angeles, California, does not see himself as a white man but does not see himself as a pure Mexican either and is stuck in the in-betweens of both ‘Mexican’ and ‘American’ culture. Because of this, he is not of specific origin or descent but rather a Chicano. A mix between both cultures instead of just one.
For those of you who haven’t heard of I, Tonya, it’s a biopic/fiction/drama about the disgraced figure skater Tonya Harding (Margot Robbie). The film follows Tonya’s life from early childhood to 1991 when she became the first American woman to complete a triple axel in a competition, through to the 1994 scandal where her ex-husband Jeff Gillooly (Sebastian Stan) conspired to injure Nancy Kerrigan, an Olympic hopeful and rival figure skater of Tonya’s.
Francesca: I had been married to Gianciotto, an old and deformed man. As time went on, I began to fall for Gianciotto’s younger brother, Paolo. One day, Paolo and I sat reading from a book when we came across a rather intense romantic scene. We got caught up in the heat of the moment, and ended up kissing.
She takes care of Tony’s every day needs, concerning his work life and personal life. In the movie Pepper has to replace Tony’s life sustaining generator and does it with ease. She partakes in some action scenes in the film, which is not common in action films, specifically past films. Pepper hacks into Tony’s computer to find out what Obadiah Stane has been up to. Obadiah Stane walks in on her while she is downloading the files but gets out in time before he figures out what she was up to. That is where all the action begins. Through this scene, Pepper proves that she is smart and capable to getting out of a situation on her own. Also, Pepper does something that is not common for women to do in films; she rejects Tony at the end of the film. Women usually fall for the “hero” in films, but when Tony suggests that he should have a worrying girlfriend to come home to, she completely shuts him down. She does not want to interfere with their boss-assistant relationship. In the end of this movie, Pepper kills the bad guy, turns down the hero, and does it all with ease because she has the strength in herself to do
