The immigration of Mexicans and Puerto Ricans has brought tremendous talent and great people. However, in the process, the culture of Mexicans and Puerto Ricans are slowly diminishing. The idea of jobs being readily available for immigrants has deprived the culture and saturated the perception of Latin Americans as workaholics. The essays I chose were Puro Border and the Puerto Rican Obituary. Both essays have given context of how Puerto Ricans and Mexicans are slowly losing their identity in this great America. Also in this essay I will be explaining how material wealth can cause the border to become a vacuum.
As kids were are told of fantasy objects such as fairy god parents and unicorns. Migrating Mexicans and Puerto Rican families do the same with a twist. They tell their children that America is a place where wealth is handed to you on arrival .Then once on American soil every opportunity is handed from shoulder to shoulder. ...scavengers in order to maintain a physical wealth rather a culture wealth. The rich man in the house takes the alleyway has a division where he can control the flow of Mexicans. The same with Puerto Ricans working as assistants, they are told to assimilate to the American culture by not taking pride of their name being misspelled in the telephone books. The Mexicans and Puerto Ricans have allowed the American wealth and culture to predict their every move.
In conclusion, the separation of nations by border does not stop immigration to the United States. The alleyway that separates nations has obstructed the culture identity of Puerto Ricans and Mexicans through temptations. The idea of selling your soul to receive material wealth is a bad move for Latinos in general. Our culture makes up our identity; without having strict ties to our culture, we lose our identity.
