Practice what you preach, that is what Justin Plesnik said to me while we were talking. For my job shadow I decided to shadow Justin Plesnik, Justin works for Body by Design in Brookfield, Wisconsin and also runs his own business known as Aqua Endurance. His official title there is Personal Trainer& Boot camp Trainer and is the head personal trainer at Body by Design. What intrigues me about becoming a personal trainer would be just getting to meet new people. The challenges of helping others eat right and being in a better shape seems like a good challenge. The freedom to choose my own clients and hours is also another plus.
Justin is 25 years old and currently goes to school at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee majoring in kinesiology and minor in psychology. While talking to Justin he told me he got interested in working out at the age of 14, when he was going through a hard time in his life at a young age. Justin’s dad, who also use to be a personal trainer got Justin interested in “working out as a outlet for his emotions”, He said. Soon he started to enjoy working out and made a habit of it everyday.
Justin started his career as personal trainer when his friends started noticing change in his body from working out; he started by training and working out with his friends. In 2010 without any certification Justin got his first personal trainer job at Bally’s fitness. Even though he did not have any certification or degree, he knew what he was doing. To become a personal trainer you need some certification while not all employers require a degree for personal trainers. “Many employers prefer to hire candidates with a minimum of an associate degree, or even a bachelor's degree in exercise science, kinesiology and physical educ...

...mes with it; I would be able to choose my own clients and hours. I get to be in a really good shape and get to help others become healthier. What I learned by shadowing Justin was how to make working out fun because no one wants to have a boring workout and that’s when people quit. To have a nice body or just to be healthy, you have to be consistent in what you do. Justin said this was his dream job just because of the freedom he has at his job to make different activities, choose his own hours. I asked Justin if he would recommend others to join this profession, his answer was absolutely just because fitness is a fast growing field, you get to be healthier and you get paid for teaching other what you already know. He also said that he believes “gym’s ask for too much certification sometimes and individuals who are unhappy with their bodies usually become trainers.
For this project, the certified athletic trainer who I have shadowed for almost eight hours in just one day is Candace O'Bryan, currently the athletic trainer at Archbishop Hoban High School in Akron. Candace has worked at Hoban now entering her third year at the high school. She works alone as a trainer there but works along side one team doctor who is at every game, and the other one being a neurosurgeon but is just a parent helping out.
A few negatives to becoming an Athletic Trainer are dealing with a lot of injuries, working a lot of long hours, parents and coaches disagreeing with the trainer’s diagnosis and recommendations, and working within small
The book begins by explaining how important exercise and being active is to our health and well-being. The author then transitions into a story about Naperville Central High School. This high school was in the forefront of a revolutionary new concept that involved vigorous exercise of its students instead of a traditional gym class. This new approach stimulated new research on the brain, and the effects of exercise on the well being of our body and minds. After the introduction of the new fitness programs, the school’s students showed drastic increases in standardized tests, and on normal tests as well.
I had always had an odd passion for working out, even before I became a weightlifter. I endured years of volleyball conditions, all of which left me sprawled across the floor, drenched in sweat; however, I never complained. My muscles quivered, my heart raced, my lungs pressed against my ribs, and my body collapsed; but my mind was determined. However, I found myself alone in this sentiment.

Throughout my life, I have always loved physical fitness and athletics. Unfortunately, due to a horrible knee injury at the end of my senior year of high school’s basketball season, my athletic lifestyle came to a screeching halt. Ever since I have gone through physical therapy and gotten back on my feet, I have had the desire to pursue a career in the field of health and fitness and my goal is to become a personal fitness trainer so I may help others reach their fitness goals and teach ways to be active safely and help prevent major injuries. I have always had a love and passion for health and fitness. I have become more sensitive to the importance of exercise and the related issues of nutrition and fitness for the avoidance of injury to the human body. Especially now that I
