Imagine living in Mid-city; There are several reasons why Mid-city is the heart of New Orleans and its people. People think Mid-City is just a normal but its not, its the eye catcher of New Orleans. Mid-city is the area where all cultures (Black, White, Indian, Chinese and more) meet (Mid-City Snapshot 1). The population after Hurricane Katrina decreased dramatically. Most homes are modern old architecture shot-gun houses. The violence reached a climatic rate after Katrina. Now, the city is under recovery and still progressing in the movement (Mid-City Snapshot 1).

Mid-City is located at the center of New Orleans, mid-way between the Mississippi River and Lake Pontchartrain. Mid-City is where the French and Spanish of New Orleans combine. Mid-city divides uptown from downtown. Unlike, every other neighborhood Mid-City is unique. Mid-city consist of the 3rd ward, 4th ward, some parts of the 7th ward and some parts from uptown. The slaves and history museums is one of the main attractions. The Spanish and French restaurants would be the main attraction (Mid-City 1).

After the devastation of Katrina, mid-city changed forever. The schools, churches, homes, families, and neighborhood changed. There are maybe 2 schools in the area which is dramatically poor to the community compared to the population of the people. Before Katrina in 2000, the population of Mid-City was nearly 20,000 living in 5,830 households (Mid-City Organization 1). Mid- City population still has the highest percentage of Hispanic people which is 10 throughout any neighborhood (Mid-City Snapshot 1).

The area is slow coming back to the form it was in before Katrina; however the population is at a standstill. Mid- City was the first suburban-style neighborhoods ...

Mid-City strives for better as they continue to bring back and build markets in the community, such as Circle Food Store, Whole Foods, Family Dollar, and much more. The owners of all these stores say that “this will bring back New Orleans before Katrina”.

Whole Foods is a new addition to the community, which is one of the community advantages instead of going so far to get food and kitchen appliances (Sayre 1). Circle Food Store has been around for so long, and the fact that it has opened back up has given the community hope for a new environment. (Sayre 1)

Mid-City will always be the heart of New Orleans, even threw the killings, struggles, and new developments.
