~Before I begin this letter, I want you to know that the reason why I’m sharing this with you is because I feel that I have to be completely honest about something that’s very personal to me. Originally, I wanted to tell you, but I just did not feel comfortable and I did not trust you enough. But, I can not keep this from you any longer. I hope after I explain this that you can understand why I did so~
The past two years of my life have been filled with extreme hardship. Although I have had positive things take place in my life, the bad always seems to outweigh the good. When I was going out with Lamar, my high school fling, a gynecologist in Newburgh told me that I had Abnormal Cells and she needed to take a closer look at them. She said not to worry, but that it crucial that she did a procedure to examine the cells carefully because if she didn’t, I could possibly develop Cancer in my Cervix. During this time, mind you, I was having unprotected sex with Lamar and he was the first boy I did that with. This “careful” procedure (known as a biopsy, coposcopy-not really sure how to spell this one) that she performed was one of the most uncomfortable things I ever had to go through. It involves doing something, that makes you feel like you have bad period cramps without having your actual period. After doing this close examination, I did not hear anything again from this doctor until about a year later, which at that time, I considered them incompetent. Before I went away to college, I went to the city to visit my mother’s GYN for a regular pap smear. She then wrote to me in college telling me that my cells were abnormal and that I needed to take some medication (basically this crap that I had to stick up in my coochie). She also told me that I needed to come in so she could do another check-up. So I took the medicine thinking (or rather hoping) that it would clear up whatever was going on down there. I went the GYN in early October. There, she told me that the pap in August should cells of H P V, a sexually transmitted disease, that if left untreated, could cause Cancer.
This paper will outline specific points in Saint Augustine’s Confessions that highlight religious views following the fall of Rome. Though Augustines views on religion may not reflect that of most people in his time period, it still gives valuable insight into how many, namely Neoplatonists,, viewed God and his teachings.

Depending on what study is read, the incidence of false confession is less than 35 per year, up to 600 per year. That is a significant variance in range, but no matter how it is evaluated or what numbers are calculated, the fact remains that false confessions are a reality. Why would an innocent person confess to a crime that she did not commit? Are personal factors, such as age, education, and mental state, the primary reason for a suspect to confess? Are law enforcement officers and their interrogation techniques to blame for eliciting false confessions? Regardless of the stimuli that lead to false confessions, society and the justice system need to find a solution to prevent the subsequent aftermath.
Guilt is powerful thing. A person’s whole life can be destroyed seconds after being exposed to the strength of guilt. Even though admitting a sin can seem more difficult than not, that confession can often make a world of difference in the long run. In The Scarlet Letter, by Nathaniel Hawthorne, Hester Prynne, and Reverend Dimmesdale, have two very different ways of dealing with guilt. These differences in action are what change the courses of their lives. The actions taken by one character are successful, though the actions of the other put his life in ruins. Hester confesses her sin in public, while Dimmesdale does not. This simple choice made causes a drastic change in each of their lives. When comparing the lives of Hester and Dimmesdale,

African Americans make up approximately 12% of the population in the US, yet make up 37% of college football student athletes (Sailes.1994). Miami’s roster was mostly African American, which fueled the stigma as blacks are overrepresented in sports. Many think African Americans are physically different and possess traits that make them better athletes, but studies prove this stereotype is false. Anatomic research shows that there are significant differences between black and white athletes, but all are insignificant and do not give blacks an advantage on the field. (Sailes.1994) Even though studies prove this stereotype to be false, stacking will keep the belief in racial stereotypes. These stereotypes, fueled by the media, just amplified the race war that was developing amongst Coral Gables and Liberty City
In his controversial book, Darwin's Athletes: How Sport Has Damaged Black America and Preserved the Myth of Race, "The whole problem here," writes author John Hoberman, "is that the black middle class is rendered essentially invisible by the parade of black athletes and criminals on television." That in turn fuels the perception that African-Americans excel in physical pursuits and Caucasians in i...
Acknowledgement and Self-Forgiveness: Redemption in The Scarlet Letter. I care about what people think of me a lot more than I would like to admit. Not only do I look to others for reassurance, occasionally I realize my entire self-worth is dependent upon the opinions of complete outsiders. Hawthorne provides a curiously simple two-step process to redemption that resonated with me in The Scarlet Letter. It involved both accepting your misconduct and learning to let go of it yourself, something I struggle to practice, because I depend upon the acceptance of others.
Though America is a country that built its foundation upon racism and segregation, we in the 21st century would like to believe that racism no longer exists in our nation. While that is a nice thought, the brutal truth is that it is still prevalent in America and the rest of the world. It may not be as vocalized as it once was; but it is still a major underlying issue of today’s society. We are ignorant to the amount of racial incidents that do occur, and the only times racist acts seem to be brought public are when they occur in sports. Despite the Jackie Robinson break through in 1947, the racial discrimination in sports has not disappeared. Instances like the Wayne Simmonds incident in 2011, to the Donald Sterling controversy a few short weeks ago, it is apparent racism in sports is still very much existent. With racism’s obvious existence in sports, in a country that is extremely dependent upon the popularity and success of professional sports, we have to deduct that racism in sports is an indicator of a much bigger racism issue.

When we first met I did not know how to trust anymore. The spirit of life had been taken from me, but somehow you helped me find it again. At the time we met, I was going through some hard times, but when others turned their backs on me, you stood by my side. You were determined to be there for me and for that I thank God every day that he sent you to me. If I would have known that when I told about my past you would be there to help me through it, then I would have told you a long time ago.
One of my proudest moments in life, was earning my college degree from Arizona State University, and becoming a teacher. While growing up, I watched as my mother would wake up early, prepare breakfast and hastily drop me off at school. She was a kindergarten teacher, and used every technique for teaching her students’ to make sure I got good grades, went to college, and became something successful. Unfortunately for my parents, majoring in education was not on the top their list. It was actually my mother who unknowingly steered me into the education world, and made me the teacher that I am today.

First, my mother giving birth, then this. Early June, I paid a visit to the doctors, where she suggested I get an MRI due to a lump in my stomach that caused a lot of unknown pain since the sixth grade. After getting many blood tests and doing the MRI, I got scary results. I found out I had a tumor in one of my ovaries. Being shocked from the news, it did not stop me from doing anything I loved. My parents were stressed and I felt guilty. After consulting with a surgeon, we had to figure out the surgery date. We kept on postponing the date because we kept on going to other surgeons in the area to see the best. Finally, the surgery date was set in November. The surgeon we chose told me the tumor can be cancerous and they would know during the surgery if it was. He also told me that the tumor was the size of a cantaloupe! I was afraid, but I think my parents were more afraid. After staying in the hospital for three gruesome days. I finally got to go home. I had about a month to recover, then I went back to school and lived my life normally once again. Those were the dreadful days of living in a
