Rapper Trina’s March 2000 single “Da baddest b*tch”, proclaimed her as the Queen of Hip hop. “Da baddest b*tch” was a controversial song that made way for many criticisms. The rapper’s song endorsed the idea of women referring to themselves as “bad b*tches”, promoted promiscuous behavior and encouraged females both young and old to use men for money.
Today many of the songs by male hip-hop artists use derogatory terms to objectify women by placing themselves in a hierarchal and controlling positions. In the song “Broccoli”, D.R.A.M. labels women as “lil mama”, “bitch”, and “baby mama”. “Lil mama” is mostly used by young men who are trying to get a young woman’s attention. On the other hand, the negative connotation that has been placed on the label, “baby mama”, is used to categorize women who happen to be the mother of a man’s child and nothing more. The label, “Baby mama”, is used in several modern R&B/Hip-Hop songs to refer to women who happen to be the mother of a man’s child and nothing more. A woman is then stripped away from potentially being seen as anything more than a mother. After having the child, a woman‘s individuality, character custom values is soon neglected by society. As a result, she is only commonly seen as the “baby mama” of a man, which further reinforces the stereotype of a woman’s societal role. ”, is used to categorize women who happen to be the mother of a man’s child and nothing more. “Bitch” is one of the many over-used derogatory terms that have been defined by Adam and Fuller (2006) as “a woman who thinks of no one but herself and is willing to do anything to obtain material
In the article “ From Fly to Bitches and Hoes” by Joan Morgan, she often speaks about the positive and negative ideas associated with hip-hop music. Black men display their manhood with full on violence, crime, hidden guilt, and secret escapes through drugs and alcohol. Joan Morgan’s article views the root causes of the advantage of misogyny in rap music lyrics. In the beginning of the incitement her desires shift to focus on from rap culture condemnation to a deeper analysis of the root causes. She shows the hidden causes of unpleasant sexism in rap music and argues that we need to look deeper into understanding misogyny. I agree with Joan Morgan with the stance that black men show their emotions in a different way that is seen a different perspective.
It is often misread that women in Beowulf are presented as compliant to men, displaying them as the weaker gender of the human species. In the world of Beowulf, women serve as peace-weavers, cup-bearers, gift-givers and even monsters, all of which at first glance appear as inferior roles. Many examiners of Beowulf, who have touched on the role of women, have criticized on the words of Gillian R. Overing who believes they are "marginal, excluded figures." Although the women in Beowulf aren't as prominent as men are, they are not "excluded" from the picture as a whole. In fact, the roles these six women presented in Beowulf have, can be compared to real Anglo-Saxon women who held together nations, bring heirs and future generations into the world, all qualities that are necessary for the Anglo-Saxons to continue to strive. Wealhtheow and Hygd play the role of cup-bearer along with the political stance of queen allowing them to have equality among men. Freawaru and Hildeburh are what Anglo-Saxons consider peace-weavers which mend together nations if handled the right way. Then there are Grendel's mother and Modthryth who are described as monsters due to their aggressiveness as women, which is sought to be an unnatural trait that only males should hold. Lastly we have the few unnamed women that play roles similar or equal to the ones mentioned above but with little coverage or knowledge from the author for them to have no name. This essay will go further into the world of women in Beowulf and how their roles play in not only the poem, but also in Anglo-Saxon culture using Seamus Heaney’s translation.
Obesity is a growing epidemic, which affects the obese and society as a whole. I want to get to the root of this problem and have an understanding of it. I will be discussing what obesity is, how it is developed, and who is at risk. I would also like to explore the familial upbringing of those afflicted by obesity, how to reverse the process, and finally see how obesity is viewed by society.
Sitting in Mass on Sunday, looking out at our fellow worshippers in the congregation and I wonder if it is possible that about half of the men there and 1 in 6 of the women are struggling with addiction to pornography. After all these are good Catholics. They come to Mass every Sunday, receive communion and act charitably toward each other. Could they be leaving church and sitting on the internet searching for porn? A survey from techadvisors shows Sunday is the busiest day of the week for porn ‘activity’. About 40 million people view porn regularly or a little over 28,000 every second. It would be foolish to believe that some of that number are not in our community leading one life in public and another in private. Some may not even realize that they have an addiction and just think of it as a pastime that doesn’t harm anybody.
Through out history, men and women have struggled to understand each other. Society has struggled to meld their complex differences while embracing the wonder of individuality. Biologist attempt to explain why men and women are different yet comes from the very similar genetic make-up. Psychologists have made grand strides in understanding how the mind works in the dynamics of relationships between men and women. And in a society that is governed by economics, the realm of social status and money can often determine whom one will couple with.
When considering gender and sex, a layman’s idea of these terms might be very different than a sociologist’s. There is an important distinction: sex, in terms of being “male” or “female,” is purely the physical biological characteristic differences – primarily anatomical differences. (There are also rare cases of “intersexual” individuals as outlined in the Navarro article, “When Gender Isn’t a Given”.) Gender, on the other hand, is an often misconstrued concept that is commonly mistaken as synonymous with sex. A non-sociologist might surmise the following, “men act masculine and women act feminine, therefore, it must follow that gender is inherent to sex,” however, this is not necessarily the case.
Gangs are surrounding the world and they consist of some of the most violent, ignorant, and prejudicial people in existence. Gangs started to emerge their power around the 1800’s; as time went on, the intensity and violence drastically increased. Today, some of the most popular gangs in the world include MS-13, The Bloods, The Crips, Latin Kings, Yakuza, and Barrio 18. In some prisons in America, more than half of the inmates are gang members. Although gangs are still slightly out of control, law enforcement has done an excellent job at figuring out the complex signs of gang activity.
Sex and Gender Arianna Stassinopoulos wrote in the 1973 book The Female Woman: "It would be futile to attempt to fit women into a masculine pattern of attitudes, skills and abilities and disastrous to force them to suppress their specifically female characteristics and abilities by keeping up the pretense that there are no differences between the sexes" (Microsoft Bookshelf). In her statement, we see a cultural feminist response to the dominant liberal feminism of the 1970s. Liberal feminism de-emphasized gender differences, claiming that women were the equals of men and that this would be obvious if only they were offered the same opportunities as men with no special privileges necessary. On the other hand, cultural feminists such as Stassinopoulos claimed that women's unique perspective and talents must be valued, intentionally emphasizing the differences between men and women. A third type of feminism, post-modernism, is represented in Sexing the Body by Anne Fausto-Sterling.
The smell of her hair. I remembered that, I remembered the morning after finding my face softly nestled in a pillow of blonde, breathing her in. She had yet to wake, and the sun rising through her barred apartment windows painted crisscrossing patterns on her exposed back.
The topic I picked is Homosexual people should have the right and the freedom like what straight people have in this world.
The Internet came with an abundant amount of benefits for our civilization as a whole. People became more connected and had the ability to access information they would have otherwise never seen. Yet, there is another side to this connectivity a much more malicious side: pornography. Pornography, typically abbreviated as porn, dominates the internet- as many as 12% of all websites are pornographic and the industry is worth nearly $97 billion . With regards to acceptance, some supported pornographic consumption while others rejected it due to religious or moral beliefs. Porn was considered as something that was not very dangerous. This has all changed, however, within the last decade as piles of research highlights the crude effects of pornography, not just on adults, but also adolescents. Porn harms adolescents through obscenity and early exposure to sexual images, this in turn promotes less progressive gender roles and sexual behavior .
