Just as the social media has changed the way we live, it has also affected the way we interact. Social networking websites such as Twitter and Facebook let you connect with almost everyone from old school classmates to colleague and neighbours. Engaging in those kinds of networks makes you feel more con-nected. Should people feel connected through the use of social media? In fact, this question has been raised in many ways and the movement towards having more control over these networks is gaining momentum (Oakes). The main concept behind social networking is to allow people have healthier connection with their friends and relatives (Stafford). Some people keep checking their facebook status updates continuously, some others keep stalking profiles for many hours, this can truly kill your day. Spending countless hours a day surfing the internet for some random tweets from people we don’t even know can be the cause of undiscovered behavioural disorders. In fact, behaviours combined with extreme use of social networking websites have been recently an encouraging area of re-search and discussion. It is known that people change the way they speak depending on whom they are speaking with and in what situation they are in. Personally I think teenagers do this the most as they use very informal structure and slang when speaking to fellow teenagers, however they will switch to much more formal and standard structured dialect when speaking to adults like their parents or teachers. These changes in dialect are induced by public attitudes. To explain, the older generation see the use of slang and teenage dialect as being a sign a stupidity. An example of this public attitude is highlighted in Nick Brittens article titled “Street slang makes youths ‘unemployable’”. In the article he explains how terms such as “fix up” and “what’s guan” are making youth unemployable as they go on to use these slang terms in job interviews and exams. He describes modern day teens as “virtually unemployable” as they “can’t speak good English.” This attitude of the use slang showing low intelligence has lead youths to change to formal language when they are in a situation in which they need to be taken seriously. In this essay I will explore the ways in which teens speech changes according to the context they are in, with the help of two transcripts.

The findings of the present study suggest that social network analysis is a promising method of quantifying the interpersonal dysfunction associated with personality disorders (Clifton, Turkheimer & Oltmanns, 2009). The first one is social networking addiction which means excessive use of Facebook, Twitter and other forms of social media. Addicted people isolate themselves from the real world, their famiy and friends. For example, they check Facebook whenever possible or stalk others’ profiles everyday. That’s why they are being disconnected from real life and their social relationships are being damaged. Over sharing on social media is also considered as a kind of social networking addiction. This is also called as a need for social affirmation. Some people share many photos and information with their friends on the Internet. They want to share everything about themselves on social media, which is a kind of addiction. Secondly, excessive use of social networking leads to some mental health problems such as depression and anxiety. Spending more time alone and keeping away from face to face interaction lead to loneliness and depression. Another reason is; teenagers especially compare themselves with their friends on social media. This situation leads to jealousy and anxiety. ‘’Researchers have proposed a new phenomenon called ‘’Facebook depression’’. As with offline depression, preadolescents and adolescents who suffer from Facebook depression are at risk for social isolation’’ (Gwenn & Kathleen, 2011, para.10). Furthermore schizophrenia is one of the most severe mental disorders which social networking sites cause. There exists many types of social media

Social media is very influential for life today. Social media helps us in many impossible circumstances. But social media can also adversely affect its users. The adverse impacts arising from social media are anti-social.
People who are against Social media claim that social media has a lot of negative effects on students particularly their academic level. Although social media lead to the improvement in academic performance as through social media students can communicate with their teachers and colleagues who can help them in their studies, if a person wants to learn about a specific subject he or she can add people who have done masters in this field so if the person have any problem in the study he or she can ask them for their help and people on social media are very helpful. Students can also join the pages of the universities which they are planning to enter and adding their students and professors so they can inquire about the university and about its teaching techniques or whatever they want to ask about because people probably won’t turn down their request for help. Another academic benefit of social media is that social networking sites like my space, twitter and Facebook improve our writing and the English language in general as if any one posted a status on Facebook or a tweet on twitter with a spelling mistake people will probably correct it and social media also has raised the interest in short story telling which definitely develop the language a great evidence for the role of social media in the d...

Several studies have shown that many forms of social media are often used excessively and can become addictive (Social Media Addiction). Roughly 10 percent of respondents reported disordered social media use in a 2014 study by the University of Albany, SUNY (McGrath). Another study found “disordered online social networking use was present in 9.7% of the sample surveyed, and significantly and positively associated with scores on the Young Internet Addiction Test, greater difficulties with emotion regulation and problem drinking” (Hormes). The likelihood of a person who has an addictive personality of developing an addiction to social media is especially high because these people most likely possess a “cluster of symptoms of poor emotion regulation skills and heightened susceptibility to both substance and non-substance addiction” (Hormes). The compulsive use of social media websites may result in “the same kind of changes in people 's brains as those caused by drug addiction” (Social Media Addiction). There are many examples of people who become addicted to social media, such as a 15-year-old social media addict named Krishnan (name changed) who spent nearly 16 hours a day on Facebook (Beware). Krishnan “developed an obsessive personality profile and was neglecting priorities of life, including education” (Beware). Dr. Sameer Malhotra, director, mental health and behavioral sciences at
Although teachers utilize homework to reinforce lessons and other out-of-class activities, an argument is growing in which homework is on the losing side of the debate to remain within schools. Despite being a long-standing concept, a plethora of reasons to ban the process are being pushed more often now than ever before. One location in Tucson (Arizona), known as the Kino school is paving the way with its implemented ban on homework altogether. Within this location, students are given the right to decide what parts of school they want to take home. Amazingly, some kids are “continuing to write in journals, practicing music with their friends, and taking experiments home to show their parents.” (The Homework Debate) In addition, Kino graduates have written short stories relating to their experiences while exclaiming that “the early control over their education continues to serve them well into college.” (The Homework Debate) After reviewing both sides of the argument, experts believe that the right decision is to ban homework altogether.
