We decided to raise money and walk the Brooklyn bridge for the diabetes walk. It was the first time I witnessed her episode. We headed off the bridge from exhaustion, when she froze up on the oncoming bicycle lane. Luckily someone pulled her out of the way on time. After the event her condition deteriorated quickly. A month later, during Thanksgiving break, her mother wrote me an email. It was an invitation to my friends funeral. I realized how one person could have such an impact on others. This experience made me sensitive to my surroundings. How could Lupus and Diabetes take down a healthy 16 year old? I had many questions regarding her health, but lacked the courage to ask them. I entered college as a Business major and effortlessly did well on my classes. In my leisure time I read medica... ... middle of paper ... ...eatment. As an intern at the FDA I learned how to conduct analysis on consumer products. Here, my Principle Investigator taught me the importance of the FDA and proper lab techniques. Currently I am a volunteer at the MJHS hospice service. My experiences thus far has realistically prepared me for emotional and physical turmoil involved in pursuing a career in medicine. I believe a physician should possess passion for learning, serve as a role model and a healer. I am determined to built upon my characteristic as an aspiring physician.
