“ I had to climb a mountain, there were all kinds of obstacles in the way. I had now to jump over a ditch, now to get over a hedge, and finally to stand still because i had lost my breath ’’. This was a dream of a stutterer, taken from the book “the hero with a thousand faces ’’ by the one and only Joseph Campbell, and that describes the hero’s journey, which is basic pattern found in many narratives from around the world, and comes in stages, and the stage I am in is the sixth which is called “the road of trials” ; which is a series of tests, tasks, or ordeals that I must undergo and overcome to get overhead, and get a step closer to my boon. The quote shown before is the dream of someone that is surprisingly very similar to my life; for I have to face obstacles everyday in life to get through the day or just get closer to the end of it. I face obstacles everyday and I manage to pass a lot and theres always a point where it gets overwhelming where I just cannot continue and must stop to take my breath, heal, and recharge to try to go on with life and its obstacles that stop me from getting to my life’s boons, and get can paralyzed sometimes, but the feeling of passing each obstacle is always very rewarding to me, it makes me feel like I am getting somewhere in life, and that im not just stuck with time passing by, wasting it. The stage I am in is the road of trials, and the reason I am in this stage of my life is that I think I have overcome all the other stages, and now I must take a very long series of tests to continue with life. I can already remember my first obstacle in life, which was school, and as I can remember I used to be and highly shy and sensitive kid, and I would usually be sitting alone in my own head thinking... ... middle of paper ... ...es. And a good example of one is the movie “The Avengers”, where tony stark(iron man) is in the ordinary word minding his own business, being a self obsessed billionaire gets the call to adventure to assemble a response unit known as the “Avengers Initiative” and refuses the call at first, but ends up accepting it and starts studying the problem which is a super villain named Loki, planning to take over the world. He has a supernatural aid which is his Iron super suit, and then comes the road of trials where Loki’s plan is a one of deceit designed to give The Avengers a false sense of control. Tony enters the Helicopter and acts like a rock star, he’s willing to become part of the group, but he still wants to do everything his way, secretly planting a virus in the computer system, playing with fire by messing with the Hulk and butting heads with Captain America.
“The way [one] expresses both the agony of life and the possibility of conquering it through is the sheer toughness of the spirit. They fall short of
In many parts of the poem, Guest uses metaphors to show the strength that one should always keep while facing their troubles. He tells his readers to "Lift your chin and square your shoulders, plant your feet and take a brace" to prepare for whatever could be ahead (lines 2-3). Even through the metaphor "Black may be the clouds above you" which gives a clear perception of difficult and hopeless moments that might be surrounding an individual, it is still better than running since it "will not save you" (lines 8-11). It is throughout the poem that Guest has used many metaphors to remind his readers about the facing the problems that will lie ahead. It is even pointed at points, such as, "You may fail, but fall fighting" to remind the reader that not all problems can be confronted. However, the author suggests that with a person's body language, like standing tall, could become a resolve. With these metaphorical commands, it gives the reader the feeling of a solider or fighter that is preparing to face an enemy. This is also further emphasized from his use of repetition. Guest repeats the figurative phrase, "See it through" to show the reader to overcome the toughest or most hopeless of problems. It is also from this statement that he suggests to go keep going no matter what since in the end it is possible that one can succeed. Becoming the clearest and most encouraging phrase and title of the poem, Guest has made the distinction of his theme to overcome everything that one can in order to achieve the best for one's

When individuals face obstacles in life, there is often two ways to respond to those hardships: some people choose to escape from the reality and live in an illusive world. Others choose to fight against the adversities and find a solution to solve the problems. These two ways may lead the individuals to a whole new perception. Those people who decide to escape may find themselves trapped into a worse or even disastrous situation and eventually lose all of their perceptions and hops to the world, and those who choose to fight against the obstacles may find themselves a good solution to the tragic world and turn their hopelessness into hopes. Margaret Laurence in her short story Horses of the Night discusses the idea of how individual’s responses
At some point in life most people have allowed at least one challenge to defeat them, if not more. Then there are those people who view these challenges as simply that, a challenge. This was the theme throughout Kyle Maynard’s novel, No Excuses, I learned that it is how we go about conquering these challenges that defines us as people. Throughout his novel he notes things will not always come easily; therefore, it is up to us to dig deep and conquer our goals. By finding alternate routes and adjusting your mindset, we are able to achieve any goal we set our minds to. Because it is not the obstacle that holds us back but it is ourselves that keeps us from fulfilling our greatest
Throughout the book the author implies that through persevering through adversity, following omens, and overcoming one's fears, everyone has a chance to achieve their dreams.
...olation and loneliness. This is the stage that I am going through now and I believe that I am on track. I have friends and a boyfriend. My relationships are healthy, I know what I want to be and get out of life.
Everyone dreams of being a hero however the path is narrow. The mantle of responsibility is important aspects and the presence of the heroic traits must be shown in some form. However, there will always be outliers and deemed delusional who attempt to be heroes. In Watchmen, Moore creates an omnipotent hero who lacks humanity in the portrayal of the Dr. Manhattan as a psychopathic anti-hero.
In the last stanza the traveler sensed that he may be sharing his decision with someone with possible regret about how he came to a fork in the road in the woods and made a decision that affected the rest of his life. Because of his decision his life is what it has become. Unfortunately, we must live with the decisions that we make in life, and many times we are not able to change them.
through a series of stages in life (Marcia, 1966, 1980) and each stage is experienced
Choices are never easy, facing hundreds upon thousands of them in our lifetime, man has to make decisions based upon these choices. Some decisions are clear while others are sometimes not clear and more difficult to make. The poem "The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost is a prime example of these choices in life. This poem is a first person narrative that is seen by most people as being told by Frost. The poem opens up with the narrator encountering a point in the woods that has a trail diverge into two separate paths. In the poem Frost presents the idea of man facing the difficult predilection of a moment and a lifetime. I believe this idea in the poem is embodied in the fork in the road, the decision between the two paths, and the decision to select the road not taken.
I have always viewed my life in simple stages. For example, I knew I wanted to graduate high school, go to college, have a career, be in a relationship, and eventually start a family. However, I never thought of my life in the stages that Erik Erikson describes in his psychosocial theory of development. In his theory, Erikson describes eight stages of development starting in the first year of life and ending in late adulthood. These different stages attempt to explain the psychosocial obstacles we encounter at each developmental milestone, who we are most influenced by, and what internal questions we might need to answer. How people chose to confront these different obstacles can effect how healthy or unhealthy development might be.
Erikson’s eight stages of life form a guideline of development. Each stage has the possibility of success and failure. With success one can lead a confident and self assured life. However, failure will lead to a life filled with feelings of regret, despair, and inadequacy. Society, family, and self exploration play a huge role in each stage. Each stage also offers its own, unique framework and goal.
...through 8 different psychosocial stages of life. Each step has to be completed in order to have gained knowledge and to be able to be successful in the next stage of development. Researching this topic has taught me that we can’t skip over skills and expect to have success or live happily ever after. I now realize how important learning from my mistakes can be. Childhood becomes the remembered past and adulthood the anticipated future (McAdams, 2001).
