There are many rules set in place by school districts and administrators against use of cell phones in the class room. These rules span from kindergarten through twelfth grade and into college. In the article “The only thing to fear is one hundred and twenty characters” Kevin M. Thomas and Christy D. Mcgee inform their readers about the positive results cell phones can have in the class room. They state that cell phones have already helped bring literacy rates up in elementary schools across the nation. The article also shows the readers some applications that they can put on their child’s smart phone that will help them with their school work. These applications help with math, english, science and reading, just to name a few. Thomas and McGee also show negative points such as cheating, cyber bullying, and sexting. Although cheating and bullying have been around for a very long time and cell phones are just another avenue that they can use. They say that sexting is a new phenomenon but is more about bad morals than school productivity. Although there are negatives for allowing cell phones in schools, the benefits outweigh the negative aspects of cell phones. Having cell phones allowed in the classroom can have many beneficial outcomes. Cell phones can be very helpful for students in academics, safety, and communication. Cell phones have many instructional benefits in a student’s academic career. Author Carol L. Tilley stated correctly that cell phones “would support and allow for enhanced communications and collaboration”. Through new technology students can use many different applications during class that are interactive with their teachers lecture. For example a teacher may have a power point lecture and have questions... ... middle of paper ... ...ir parents or a family member to come and pick them up. Even at school when students are getting picked up to go home there are preditors. These people will do anything to capture children and if a child has a phone they would have a better chance of being found alive. In the end, children being able to contact parents during school, or on their way home is for the parents to be at ease and not worry about their children. Although many district administrators are completely against students having cell phones at schools and in the classroom. Many parents and teachers can see that cell phones would be a great asset to have in their classrooms. They see that there are many possibilitys with cell phones. Educators and parents can see how cell phones can positively affect academics, help keep their children safe and allow communication between the parent and student.

Cellular phones are a phenomenon that has engulfed people in the nineties. They have become a common occurrence whether you are waiting in line at the super market or in a movie theatre. One professor at Murray State University said, “Many students are carrying them, I had a student get a call in the middle of a test last semester.” Although many people have accepted the thought of carrying a telephone wherever they go, others have not taken the onslaught of cell phones quite so easily. Cell phones have become part of everyday life, and with the dramatic changes that have been made, there is no sign of their existence diminishing. Today, cellular service is available in all 306 Metropolitan Statistical Areas across the country and all of the 428 Rural Service Areas.
Teachers are finding it harder and harder to separate a student from their cell phones for eight hours. Cellular devices and social media have become a number one priority for many people across the world. Due to the fact that the student will not put down their phones during school hours, their grades tend to be lower, which could, in the long run, affect their chances of getting into college. The use of cell phones does not strictly affect younger generations, it also had major influence on adults at the

One reason that cell phones should be banned from classrooms is because students who use them fall into a daze of distracted learning. Classes are taught by teachers, whose goal is to give the student an educational experience, learning things they will need to apply to their later life. However, students on their cellphones are distracted from their learning and never use the lessons taught. Over 2,000 cellphone disturbances were reported in New York City in the past school year (Backstory). This means that over 2,000 people had issues with cellphones interrupting classroom discussi...

Schools should allow cell phones in schools for children's protection and safety. Secondly, cell phones can keep you connected with your buddies. Instead of screaming, and yelling in the halls to ask your buddy for books, you can simply call them on your cell phone. Some students ask themselves, "If teachers are allowed to use cell phones in class?"... ...
Ever since incidents such as 9/11 and Columbine, high schools have started implementing new rules regarding cellphones. Cellphones regard the attention of building managers, teachers, parents, and students. Although teachers see them as a distraction and a way to cheat, they can be quite helpful to students. School districts should permit students to use cellular devices in school for purposes of improving their education and providing themselves a sense of security.
With so many school shootings and terrorist attacks happening, cell phones are a necessity to help you feel safe (Higgins). With a cell phone handy, if something were to happen there would be ways for you to call 911 and get help. In Higgins article, Dan Domenech says, “This trend first emerged after the 9/11 terrorist attack.” Many people like to have a way of communication and a type of security to make them feel safe. In Higgins article, Dan Domenech continues, “The issue of security and red alerts on terrorism threats became an issue and school systems began to relax the prohibition on cell phones in school.” School shootings do not happen very often, but if and when they do students can be prepared to have the opportunity to call for help and explain what
Another reason that cell phones should be allowed in school is that computers can do most everything a phone can do “when most schools provide computers with internet access to their students, students can send text messages to cell phones from an e-mail account, and most cell phones function like computers with web browsing” (George and Cook). When schools put a ban to phones students are not allowed to contact a parent until after school, “that included students who are calling for a ride home after they finished a test before the usual time school ended” (George and Cook). A bad on cell phone use can also put a strain on the relationship between students and their teachers, as teachers have to enforce the rules. However, though some believe cell phone use should be allowed, the counter claim to that is “Phones should be banned in school”.
There are many reasons cell phones should be allowed in schools. Cell phones have unlimited possibilities when it comes to gaining information. School systems having access to current and up to date information is important to help students learn. Jacqueline Leiker, a technology professor, wrote an article called “Cell Phones in the Classroom”. In her article, Leiker explains that since she allowed cell phones in her classroom, the communication between her and her students couldn’t be better.
One reason cell phones should be allowed in the classroom is for the safety of students.serious emergencies, like a school threat or shooting, cell phones could help students connect with worried parents. In just 11 weeks 17 school shootings have happened Cell phones can be used by students to report any emergency; students can contact their parents if the school has closed because of a natural disaster or any other abrupt cause. This means that cell phones in the classroom could mean no more worrying parents and the safety of many of children at school.
Cell phones are small and portable yet provide so much to its user with being able to look up anything to calling your parents in case of an emergency or if you need to give them a heads up on something. With the way things are today people need to focus on incorporating cell phones into daily life and finding ways to make them more suitable in a classroom environment. Teachers are already doing this though with using apps that work with the whole class and can track data and usage of a student. It cannot be debated that cell phones are beneficial in school as before cell phones you would have to go to your local library and hopefully find what you are looking for. Cell phones belong in a school environment as they can be helpful and it 's a parent 's right to be able to get ahold of their
Today’s cell phone is the front line technology at our fingertips. Keeping this in mind the use of cell phones have become an affair when it comes to allowing teens to use them in educational environments, such as schools. One part of society supports the use of cell phones while the other part of society disapproves the use of cell phones. I personally believe that cell phones should not only be allowed in school, but cell phones should be mandatory just like a textbook. Cell phones do not only allow students to stay united with friends and family, but cell phones are also a magnificent learning system, and they boost the liable use of technology.
Technology and more specifically cellular phones play an important role in our everyday life. Today researchers have found that cellular’s help not only inside the classroom but have had a positive learning outcome outside as well (Thomas & OBannon, 2013). When we think of cell phone, learning is not the first thing that comes to mind, but with the different ways that as teacher cell phones can be use for everything. Granted most of these ideas are for more mature students, the ones that have a better understanding of not only technology but also how to use it for their education. Some say that cellular can be use as an incentive for students to learn and there are guides and books that teach educators how to handle the technology in the classroom without creating a problem. Even though some say educator are still the ones deciding if or when to use technology the truth is that every child has a Smartphone or a laptop or some technology available at that moment that not even if the teacher wanted them to stop using it they wouldn’t.
