As 3D printers are becoming more prominent in the world today, it's met with many challenges, with one of them being the lack of strict regulation on 3D printed firearms. The inadequate supervision over 3D printing technology can potentially render any attempts at gun control law obsolete, as well as producing extreme effects on security (McCutcheon). Numerous scientific sources regards 3D printing as a technological breakthrough, supported by the numerous articles and news report in which that shows the wide range of capabilities within 3D printing, such as printing prosthetics, stem cells, and "a human liver that can last 40 days" (Ranaldi). However, when it comes to using 3D printers to produce firearms, concerns over copyrights and safety arise. Due to the simple production, distribution and easy disguises of these firearms, 3D printed firearms should be banned.
To understand the conflicting issues brought about by this new technology, one must know the basic functions and concepts of 3D printing. The key idea of 3D printing or additive manufacturing (AM) is "using computer-aided design (CAD) software to design a three-dimensional image of what you want to produce" (Ranaldi). Once you have the CAD software, 3D printer purchased from manufactures, and a design file, all that's left is to purchase the material needed for your design. Although the process described seems very costly, some advantages from 3D printing such as greatly reduced production time, low waste production and easy accessibility makes up for much of the initial start up costs. In short, " [Additive manufacturing] simplifies the manufacturing process by building pre-assembled systems: a clock with all its gears in place" (Haxel, 5)...

3D printing have lots of practical uses, however, lack of effective regulation on 3D printed firearms could have detrimental effects in the world today. Although the innovation of 3D printing opens up unlimited possibilities for useful creations ranging from prosthetics to stem cells, such futuristic technology should not be used to create firearms due to the lack of a solid regulation on 3D printed weapons, as well as the potential to drastically increase the number of criminal activities. It’s best to utilize such technology for scientific advances than personal usage as it can result in major efforts to change the current gun laws to have an effect on 3D printed firearms. The inadequate supervision over 3D printing technology can potentially render any attempts at gun control law obsolete, as well as producing extreme effects on security.
In "The Effectiveness of Gun Control Laws:." the authors perform a surgical operation on the various views and issues as presented by the industry concerning gun regulation. The publication outlines the laws that have been enacted by congress concerning the regulation of firearms and shows their pros and cons. The authors suggest that there needs to be a more concerted effort by the executive as well as the judiciary so be able to enforce laws concerning firearm issuing and licensing.
The high-capacity magazines law should be enforced. For instance, “High-capacity magazines — or assault weapons likely equipped with them — were used in at least 15 of the incidents (11%).” (Analysis of Mass Shootings). Due to high-capacity
Some choose the noble choice of the military, others to work in construction and automotive toiling with shovel and wrench. Others choose more precise work, such as becoming machinists, doctors and engineers--the secret behind the scenes people who make things work in today’s society. But, there is a job that entails all, something complicated requiring the finesse of a heart surgeon, but with the understanding of a engineer: the art of gunsmithing. An art that essentially made the United States possible and separates it from others in the world. From the invention of black powder and the hand cannon to the 6,000 round per minute Dillon Minigun, firearms
In 1993, Congress approved the Brady Bill that requires a mandatory five-day waiting period when buying a gun. The recent school shootings have pushed Congress to pass a bill requiring approximately 80% of handguns to be produced with child safety locks. The ultimate goal of the government is to ban the sale of firearms to the public. By starting out small, and having big goals, later generations will enjoy peaceful lives. In today’s world, guns used in the home for protection purposes are becoming more of a danger than an object of security.
Over the past year, the United States has been plagued with controversy in regards to gun control legislation. On January 24, 2013, Senator Feinstein introduced the Assault Weapons Ban of 2013. The Assault Weapons Ban was a bill written to stop the acts of sale, transfer, importation, and manufacturing of military styled weapons. The NRA-ILA website quotes an excerpt of Feinstein’s bill, which states, “Feinstein’s new bill are as follows: Reduces, from two to one, the number of permitted external features on various firearms. The 1994 ban permitted various firearms to be manufactured only if they were assembled with no more than one feature listed in the law. Feinstein’s new bill would prohibit the manufacture of the same firearms with even one of the features.” (NRA-ILA) Wayne Lapierre, Executive Vice President of the NRA, said in 2009, “There’s not a dime’s worth of difference between the guns you want to ban and you don’t want to ban. You’re going to ban these semi-autos, and then it’s going to be handguns, and then it’s going to be pump shotguns.” Lapierre’s statement supports the fact that the recent gun ban legislation across the United States will not solve the problem of increased violence.
Guns have the ability to protect the user against those who intend to do wrong. There have been multiple accounts of law abiding citizens protecting themselves with firearms. Some cases even involve stopping criminals with possibly illegally obtained firearms. Given both stances, too much gun control will result in misfortune as will too little. Without a perfect balance, lives are at risk. Throughout this paper I will discuss in greater detail the ways in which this balance can be achieved.
The development of arguments surrounding gun control corresponds to the increased violence and problems related to weapons and firearms use. This then prompted the expansion of gun control initiatives and has shapes public opinion particularly in the promotion of increased regulation to banning. Due to this, it became controversial as it split the opinions of the citizenry particularly in their stance to advance different objectives. Arguably, the process of developing gun control remains to be detrimental due to its capacity to challenge individual rights and liberty, undermine the value of guns and firearms in the promotion of deterrence and self-defense and inability to recognize the commitment of existing reasonable gun management and control initiatives already in place.
Due to the alarmingly large number of public massacres, gun reform has yet again become a highly debated issue in America. In the past, laws were enacted that were meant to restrict ammunition and military classes of weapons from resale in the United States. Due to strong lobbying efforts of the National Rifle
While we look at the way gun control advocates are trying to enforcing gun control, you may begin to even question why we would even attempt to use such methods. The idea that limiting the size of a person’s magazine or regulating the style of gun you can purchase or even doing something as simple as a performing background check on potential buyers will stop murders like the Connecticut shooting from happening is ridiculous. It takes brains to live the l...
Each year 30,000 deaths are caused by guns (Goldberg). Guns are a huge issue in the United States because something so dangerous is also an American pass time. Guns are used for hunting and protection. However, certain guns are not actually needed for hunting or protection. By adding more regulations to guns, it can make gun ownership safer. Contrary to what many believe, gun regulation doesn’t mean getting rid of all the guns in the United States, but by making

Gun Violence is one of the United States most serious crime problems. The total cost of gun violence in the United States, including medical, criminal justice, and other government and private costs, are at least 6 to 12 billion a year (Cook, P. J. & Ludwig, J., 2000). The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’ (ATF) mission is to track firearms. It reported that firearms sells have risen since 2005. According to the A...

Gun policies and restrictions have always been a major debate when it comes down to violent acts and political issues regarding the firearm; people who value self-security and have jobs or hobbies pertaining to guns believe there should not be restrictions while others believe the laws need to be strengthened . It is important to know that gun laws and restrictions vary throughout the states, so it is necessary to search specifically for an individual state if needed. It is important for gun owners and people looking to buy guns to make sure they understand the policies in their states and follow them to be safe with their guns and aware of other people’s rights. The debate goes back and forth on determining the fate of gun restrictions. Many
