Zombie Apocalypse
In recent times, people have debated whether or not we would survive the zombie apocalypse. Though zombies do not actually exist in our world at this moment, people wonder if we would survive in case of such an event. As a matter of fact, here are many existing articles on the subject of zombies like “From CDC - Preparedness 101: Zombie Apocalypse” by Public Affairs, “These States Are Totally Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse” by the Huffington Post, and “Pentagon document lays out battle plan against zombies” by Jamie Crawford. While some people believe that the human race would succumb to the zombies, there is more than enough evidence to assure that humanity will survive the zombie apocalypse, including the advanced technology

of humanity in 2017, the fact that the government is prepared for an attack, and other such factors. One factor that would lead to human survival would be that the CDC is already prepared for the zombie apocalypse.
On the FEMA website, there is an article that explains this plan the CDC has. One such guideline that the CDC offers is that “you should sit down with your family and come up with an emergency plan. This includes where you would go and who you would call if zombies started appearing outside your door step.” (Doc. 2, Line 23) The reasoning to come up with a family plan is to make sure your family knows what to do and who to call in the case of an emergency like that. The CDC has even created an emergency kit for the zombie apocalypse, including items like Water (1 gallon per person per day), Food (stock up on non-perishable items that you eat regularly), Medications (this includes prescription and non-prescription meds), Tools and Supplies (utility knife, duct tape, battery powered radio, etc.)” (Doc. 2, Lines 14-17) among other items. The relevance of these items are so in the case of the apocalypse, you have a supply of things to keep yourself alive for long periods of time. While you cannot fully predict how the zombie apocalypse will go down, if you follow these ideas, you will at least be prepared in case of an emergency, contributing to your …show more content…
survival. Statistically speaking, there is a fair argument for both sides concerning the types of people who will survive.
According to the Huffington Post, they made a system that “Using metrics like fighting ability, military personnel, knowledge of zombies, physical fitness and access to weapons, Estately ranked each state in the country (and the District of Columbia) and explained the results in a chart.” (Doc. 3, Lines 6-8) So, in theory, the states that have the best overall rankings will survive the zombie apocalypse, while the lowest ranking states, who are obese, have little military knowledge, among other disadvantages, will most likely become infected. According to the article, Alaska would most likely survive the zombie apocalypse, and they “are not surprised. Military personnel? More than anywhere else in the nation. Veterans? Loads of them. Guns? Check. Physical activity? Check. Survival skills? This is Alaska, for Pete’s sake. Throw in some zombie knowledge (and not to mention soul-crushing vastness and isolation) and you’ve got yourself the number one state in the nation for surviving the zombie apocalypse.” (Doc. 3) However, the least likely to survive the zombie apocalypse is New Jersey. As the Huffington Post humorously said to New Jersey as if they were a single person, “If it weren’t for Washington, D.C., you’d be dead last in survival skills, dead last in zombie knowledge and dead last in gun ownership. So why isn’t D.C. dead last? Because at least they know how
to play laser tag. New Jersey, you are officially the worst place for surviving the zombie apocalypse.” (Doc. 3) So what do these statistics tell us? Basically, in the case of an outbreak, according to the chart, most of the higher populated states would suffer the most casualties, as California, New York, New Jersey, Texas, Florida, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Michigan, and North Carolina, which are all in the top ten highest populated states in the country, are in the bottom 25 states when it comes to surviving the zombie apocalypse, meaning that a large amount of people will likely die, contributing to the argument that humanity might not survive the zombie outbreak. However, to prove that humanity would survive the invasion, the states with the highest chance of survival, including Alaska, Wyoming, Idaho, New Mexico, and Colorado, will survive, and according to the theory of Darwinism, through the elimination of the weaker members of a species, the members better fit for survival will adapt and will be the ones to repopulate by the end of the zombie apocalypse, which will then result in a better and stronger species, as these stronger traits will most likely be inherited by the offspring, thus resulting in the survival of the human race. Along with the reasons already stated, yet another factor that would lead to the survival of humanity is that the Pentagon already has a plan for the event of a zombie invasion. According to CNN, “Zombie life forms "created via some form of occult experimentation in what might otherwise be referred to as 'evil magic,' to vegetarian zombies that pose no threat to humans due to their exclusive consumption of vegetation, to zombie life forms created after an organism is infected with a high dose of radiation are among the invaders the document outlines." (Doc. 5) This means that the Pentagon is ready for any type of zombie, so if there’s a zombie type, the Pentagon has a game plan ensuring our safety. If that isn’t already enough, “There are even contingency plans for how to deal with hospitals and other medical facilities infiltrated by zombies, and the possible deployment of remote controlled robots to man critical infrastructure points such as power stations if the zombie threat becomes too much.” (Doc. 5) So, even if the zombies end up getting the upper hand, the Pentagon still would be able to handle the situation in the end.
The realm of myths and magic have captivated the attention of masses for decades. Most of the myths and creatures originated from folklore from diverse cultures around the world. The mythological world usually contains myths and stories about fantastic beasts, immortal gods and goddesses, unearthly beings, and bizarre creatures that rule or roam the depths of the earth. Since the rise of the internet, classic myths like mermaids, vampires, dragons, werewolves, zombies, and unicorns continue to have a certain appeal to the public. Due to this advancement of technology, myths like vampires and zombies can tap into people’s needs or yearnings. Either by filling a psychological need, symbolizing the rejected and inexpungable or by creating an
With the zombie metaphor referring to uncontrollable fears in today’s modern society, the thriller is a realistic speculation about an airborne virus entering the human species and spreading on a global scale. With influenza outbreaks being a familiar scenario within modern society, the fear of an uncontrollable disease sends shockwaves of fear through the human race, especially when a vaccine has yet to be found and distributed, like in the film. The fear of a viral infection spreading stems from the idea that people do not simply “give” another individual the virus; a virus is a form of life that evolves and mutates in order to survive environmental changes. This virus searches for a new vulnerable host in order to survive and carry the disease to the next victim. The critical aspect around the spread of a virus is how drastically the reproduction process occurs. Without being controlled, the contamination throughout any species causes the spread to take place in a toxic way, “On day one, there were two people. And then, four and then, sixteen. In three months, it’s a billion. That’s where we’re heading” (Dr. Erin Mears, Contagion). Though the zombie metaphor focuses primarily on fear involving unconscious contributors and their mission of adding to their population, the fear of governmental control and how society responds to the epidemic is also an issue that needs to be considered. In this scenario, the viral
Stop! Do not head for the road It is safer to stay in your houses because no matter what the dead will be coming and there is no escaping. Try to be as close as you can to a town so you can get supplies. Zombie proofing your home is the first thing you should do. When Zombie proofing your home, the ideal item would be wood. Board up every window and set traps outside and inside your home. The traps would trap the dead and tell you if they are coming. The absolute safest place to be is in an abandoned prison. Although prison is designed to keep the living inside it is the ideal to keep the dead out. It already have top notch security and a kitchen. Wherever you are try to stay safe and not draw attention to
You suddenly awake from a coma in what seems to be an abandoned hospital in downtown Atlanta. As you leave your hospital bed looking for any signs of life, you see a barricaded door that reads “Don’t Open Dead Inside”. As you walk past the door, hands of the undead reach out in attempts to consume you. This is how main character, Rick Grimes, was introduced into the zombie ridden post apocalyptic world of AMC’s “The Walking Dead.” If you are a fan of the series and have been watching it since season 1, you absolutely know that the “walkers” are not the only thing that Rick and the other main characters have to protect themselves from.
The basic core of the show is that the apocalypse is not entirely different than normal life. When people are put into situations that are new, there are various reactions. Some will bring their old values and beliefs, others will evolve into something they did not even know they were capable of. A few will find out they are more capable and valuable in a civilization such as this than they were before. When it comes down to it, authority figures can come from anywhere, people of power will fight to provide for themselves, and no one is safe from anything in a zombie apocalypse.
A zombie is a monster that has been a horror movie legacy for many years now. Zombie is defined as “a dead person who is able to move because of magic according to some religions and in stories, movies, etc.” Zombies haven’t always been the creature that we see today though. George A. Romero merged the old-forgotten zombie into the standardized version we see today. James Conroy writes, “With his 1968 film Night of the Living Dead, George Romero brought the concept of the slow-moving, flesh-eating zombie into mainstream American culture.” (1) Night of the Living Dead not only set an iconic image for zombies, but it also brought issues you would not normally see in a Zombie film, dealing with race and gender stereotypes.
“Zombie killings are similar to reading and deleting 400 work e-mails on a Monday morning or filling out paperwork that only generates more paperwork, or following Twitter gossip out of obligation, or performing tedious tasks in which the only true risk is being consumed by avalanche” (41). These are all similar to zombie killings because zombies will never go away unless you turn to really harsh tactics like aiming for one’s brain with a shot gun and repeating this for every zombie you come in contact with. In order to clear those 400 emails after reading them you must repeat the steps for each and every one, which is time consuming and can be very frustrating. Completing paperwork is very tedious, and can sometimes become overwhelming you may begin to feel as if it will never end which is common well it can feel similar to that when it comes to zombie killings as well because there will be one zombie followed by another one and many more to come. “Battling zombies is like battling anything….. Or everything” (42). Never assume the war is over because it is not, there will be one or more zombies hiding out, the war is never over. “The zombies you kill today will merely be replaced by the zombies of tomorrow” (44). Zombies are a “live-stock” they are brain dead but they travel in packs and have no limit as to how far they will go. In the movie Dawn of the Dead the zombies actually
Zombies have become very popular due to their depictions of being easy to kill and being communal. Zombie apocalypses are also very relatable due to the fact that they are set in lives similar to our society and seem easy to overcome. Zombies, themselves, can be identified with because we see ourselves when we look at a zombie. Zombies drudge on through the same task of finding human flesh to consume every day just like we drag ourselves to either class or our job in order to sit through another boring lecture or perform the same menial task every day. Just like the zombie, R, in the book, Warm Bodies, said, “I am Dead, but it’s not so bad. I’ve learned to live with it,” we have learned to succumb to our daily routines and just live with
How do they survive the storm? What helped them crawl into the popular culture and continue through the changing fads of past decades? The zombie craze was “born” for the hardcore horror fans but has been kept “alive” by fear and publicity that is focused on everyone. Before the zombies arrived, the hardcore horror fan needed something gruesome and zombies really gave it to them. A zombie is the living undead that has been awakened by a phenomenon such as the heat of the moon.
How many times have you been scared awake by zombies after watching shows or reading comics? Zombies, a particular group of survival horror, are basically dead people who come back to us in an evil way. From novels to Hollywood films, we look like cowards who are repeatedly scared by zombies. How can we still get shocks in this age of scientific society? The answer is that zombies come back with cultural messages in stories, which express our extraordinary fears. Such a horrible story was created by Kirkman, in The Walking Dead he depicted zombies as a horrible metaphor for xenophobia by combining fear of otherness with infectious disease; as a result, fear of contagion fuses with our fear of outsiders, increasing the unequal treatment of immigrants in contemporary society.
First of all, we all know that zombies are like blind fish swimming in the ocean. They can’t walk very fast, and they aren’t smart, but always make sure to have some weapons and items with you when a zombie apocalypse starts. Have a knife so you’ll be able to kill the zombies or your friends if you loathe them. Also, make sure to have a gun and
In the end, Zombieland can be a lesson for our founding fathers. They would have learned to look at women in a new light. They would not see them as being small, dependent people. Instead, they would see that they demand respect, just as men do and just as all people should. They would see them independent and more than capable human beings on this earth. In fact, I believe if our founding fathers had seen Zombieland then they too would agree that the only people that should be excluded from rights are zombies. They would see women are just as equal as men. If this new perspective had been discovered sooner, one of the most important documents in history, the Declaration of Independence, would be seen with the following words: “All men and women are created equal”.
Mass amounts of people will die, families will be separated, and peaceful ways of life will be long gone. Guard your loved ones, board up your windows and keep your gun under your pillow because you’re gonna need it. I have taught the facts, the opinions, and the theories on the possibility of a zombie apocalypse. I have explained with facts and statistics the ramifications of it if it was to happen, the way and speed at which it can spread, and the cruelty that will follow. You can protect yourself and the ones closest to you, but first you have to believe it.
Now a high-school senior, I still remember my freshman year with a shudder; it was the year my friends and I joked about as the "Year of the Zombie." It wasn't that I had contracted a rare medical disorder that transformed me into one of the walking dead. I had done what many diligent students do: sacrifice most of my sleep time for the sake of academic success.
Once the storm arrives, stay inside and away from walls and windows that could collapse or be blown away. If it is during the night, have a flashlight near-by so that you can find your way around in case of a power failure. Don’t use the telephone either unless it’s absolutely necessary. Many people may be trying to make emergency calls and the phone lines may be knocked down in some areas.
