The Zodiac Killer The Zodiac Killer was a serial killer located in Northern California in the late 1960’s to the early 1970’s. This killer is directly linked to five murders in Northern California and two victims escaped sustaining serious injuries (Kobek). The Zodiac would taunt police and newspaper editors by sending them letters and then quickly ceasing communication. In these many letters he sent to the editors and police, he claimed to have killed as many as 37 people, even though there are only five confirmed victims (Warren). On Tuesday, October 14, 1969, newspaper editor, Carol Fisher, was sorting through the large pile of letters sent to the newspaper, three days after the murder of Paul Stine. She picked up a letter that had been …show more content…
David Farraday from Vallejo High and Betty Lou Jensen from Hogan High School (Noyes). Another connection, Kenney stated, was that Myers had worked as a busboy at Terry’s restaurant in Vallejo. The same place as Zodiac victim, Darlene Ferrin. Looking at the famous police sketch that has been circulating the internet for over 50 years, Earl Van Best Jr. matches the sketch the best by far. The sketch depicts a man with glasses, short hair, and thin lips, which matches Van Best to a tee. Earl Van Best Jr.’s biological son, Gary L. Stuart, wrote an article by the name of The Most Dangerous Animal of All, where he tries to prove that his father was the killer. In this article, it claims that the Zodiac and Van Best Jr. had the same handwriting due to Van Best’s signature found on a marriage certificate (Paige et al.). However, Mike Rodelli, a Zodiac theorist, does not believe this claim and believes that the handwriting found on the certificate was actually of an individual who worked at the church when Stuart’s parents got married. So, even though the handwriting theory is not believed by some, there are still many other
I would like to try and discuss theories and ideas about the Zodiac Killer (1966-1978, 1966 is when the killings started and his letters sent, 1978 was when his letters stopped but the killings unsure about if they stopped). What I have found out is that he killed about 37 or 40 people (he claims to have killed). The Zodiac sent letters to the chief of the SFPD or the News, threatening to kill someone or many people. The Zodiac wrote on some of his letters of how he killed some of his past victims, it explained what he used to kill his victims, to how he used his tools. Some of the letters the Zodiac sent were in ciphers or encrypted; one letter was thought to uncover the name of the Zodiac, but the letter was never cracked. Moving to his victims.
Throughout history, there have been more cases of unsolved crime than can be counted. Over time, however, the advancement of science made these cases far fewer. Through forensics; a type of science which revolves around the solving of crimes, there has been an increase in undeniable evidence throughout the world. Regardless of the evidence, though, there are some crimes which have remained unsolved. The case of the Zodiac Killer is one of the most famous of these.
The Zodiac Killer is an unidentified man who is presumed to be a serial killer that operated in Northern California in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Murdering at least five people, but the Zodiac claims to have killed upwards of 37 people in total. In 1969 the Zodiac Killer began sending letters to the Bay Area newspapers, taking credit for the five killings and threatening further violence. The Zodiac Killer would call and send cryptic letters to the law enforcement agencies in Northern California, taunting them since they were unable to bring him to justice. The police had suspects but none that they could ever charge for the murders, due to lack of evidence, so this mystery still remains unsolved. The cultural impact that the Zodiac Killer has had on tv, movies and the media is still around today and has had many shows and movies remade after what this killer did. The cultural impact as well as for the families of the victims still remains today with still no closure, for those families who live in Northern California still there is the fear that crosses the minds on how such an awful criminal was once a part of their society, someone they may
In the late 1960s and the early 1970s, one man killed 37 innocent people. This man called himself the Zodiac killer. This will write about how he killed whom he killed. Why he killed. And the zodiac killer’s real identity. Much is unknown about the Zodiac killer, but given what is known about serial killers in general, this essay will show you more about him.
The Elusive Zodiac Killer Serial killers almost without exception enjoy playing games. Whether played with their victims’, or the police forces trying to track them down, the game of the kill is almost as essential as the murder itself. In most instances this need to draw out the experience leads to the downfall of the culprit. This was not the case with the elusive Zodiac Killer of the San Francisco Bay Area.
The Zodiac Killer is one of the most popular murders. The fact that made him so infamous was that The Zodiac Killer was never identified. The mysterious killer was never caught and jailed for his crimes. The FBI have looked for the killer for decades, but still, even to this day, could not find him. The whole mystery of the killer and the name of the killer has made him popular across the United States. The Zodiac Killer was a mysterious killer, and he had a very unique way of going about the murders.
Much is unknown about the Zodiac killer, but given what is known about serial killers in general, this man was probably born between 1938 and 1943. That would make his age between 25 and 30 years old at the time of his first murder in Vallejo, California, in 1968. Also, that age estimate works with witness statements and it's supported by Zodiac's references to his victims in younger terms in his letters of 1969. Zodiac wasn't an attractive character from what we know. He may have had to wear glasses throughout his youth and his facial features weren't all that pleasing. So overall he may have been unpopular as a young boy and spent a good deal of time alone. It seems as though rejection is a big issue for Zodiac. No one knows anything about the Zodiac's parents but it wouldn't be ridiculous to say that there was domestic violence, broken relationships with parents or guardians, and maybe even a physical or sexual abuse in the household. Considering the adult outcome, Zodiac would have turned out to be an angry, withdrawn, loner, whose adolescence just could have been filled with fantasies and irrationality.
A serial killer is a person who has killed three or more people over a month apart. Their motivation for killing is usually based on psychological issue.(Sanmartín,2001) In the U.S, the most reported serial killers are lower middle class white males, usually in their late twenties to early thirties (Skrapec,2001). Serial killers, often, are liars. They have no sense of remorse or guilt. Most of the time they are not in serious relationship or have any emotional obsession to any one person, besides their victims. Most of the well-known serial killers are: Robert Pickton, Charles Manson, Anthony Sowell, Ted Bundy, The Zodiac Killer, The Green River Killer, and The BTK murderer. (Sanmartín,2001). Often, women were never seen as even a suspect
My essay is going to be about the unsolved murders of the Zodiac Killer. The Zodiac killer was never discovered and remains unknown to this day. Between 1968 to 1969 he went on to kill 5 people that the police knew about, but claims to have killed up to 37 people in total. But some say it’s just the rambling of a sick man who just craves for attention. On the other hand, they might be people he never spoke about or who has never been investigated. It’s really a question of if he really did kill that many people or was he just making things up. He was really known for sending threats and codes along with letters to newspapers from 1969-1974 to get his message out to the world before disappearing forever. Most of the Zodiacs murders took place
Imagine if you lived in a city with a killer and no one knew him and they still haven’t caught him. You wouldn’t have any idea where a safe place in town would be. Would you continue with Ur every day activities? Would you be safe taking out urn trash to the curb? What about running to the store? Do you think urn life is worth that carton of milk u gone to the gas station to buy? Would you even feel safe at all knowing there is a killer he could be you’re next door neighbored. It could even be the mail man anybody could be the killer you just have no idea everyday u take risks that everyone takes for granted. One day something bad will happen to someone who is a good person and they won’t take all the warning signs and reports seriously. So they will walk straight into their own demise and become another victim of some crime. Would you like to be gutted or mutilated or anything that is very painful and just down right wrong. No one deserves these things but there is always some one out there at the wrong place at the wrong time.
In the San Francisco Bay area, as well as in the rest of California, the late ‘60’s and early ‘70’s was a time of terror and fear. What started out as a seemingly random, but brutal murder on the night of October 30th, 1966, turned out to be the start of a series of horrific murders that would span 2,500 suspects, 56 possible victims, and over 400 miles. On the calm, cool night of December 20th, 1968, a young seventeen year-old named David Arthur Faraday was getting ready to take a young sixteen year-old named Betty Lou Jensen on her first date.
The crime spree murders of the Zodiac killer is one of the greatest unsolved murdered cases of all time. The Zodiac’s murders took place from later 1960s, through to about 1972. Most of The Zodiac’s murders took place in Northern California. Some main areas where murders took place are Benicia, Vallejo, Lake Berryessa, and San Francisco, California. Two out of the four men that were attacked lived and three women out of the three were killed. The ages of the victims goes from 16 up to about 29 years of age. The Zodiac claimed he murdered 37 people in the letters he sent to the local newspaper.
A: A mysterious man who was never found committed 37 horrifying murders in the late 1960’s and early 70’s, and earned the title of the Zodiac Killer. He was constantly seeking the attention of the public by sending taunting letters to the police, as well as blood curdling phone calls to the station after each stabbing. Many of his letters were written as cryptograms or ciphers that were eventually encoded by the police; one of the messages translated to say “I like killing people because it is so much fun”. He struck so much fear into the people of San Francisco, and even though to much of the cities effort to catch this cold blood killer was never found. (“The Killer Called Zodiac”10)

Death. A fear that haunts many people in today’s society. But can you blame them? Death lurks around every corner. Hides in plain sight.
