Zipping Out: A Short Story

Have you ever just had that feeling… When your standing by… counting…One...The feeling of messing up...Two...What happens if I strike out...Three… Just swing and hit the ball...SWOOSH! The ball goes zipping by…I swing and the ball goes speeding through the sky… Those same thoughts go through my head every time I step up to the plate. I first started playing ball when I was in 2nd grade, the first year I moved to Mosinee. I knew from the second I laid one foot on the field… It was my sacred place. I've been playing softball for 6 years about, practicing my rear-end off. When 3 years into my softball years, I tried out for the Mosinee softball travel team. And that's the best of the best players. I made the team with my 2 close companions, Brenna and Lexi. When my mother got the call about the tryouts, although I was scared, I felt this sense of determination and devotion. After my mother told me I made the team, I was roused. I know knew at that moment, I was going to have to work extra hard, push myself past the limits to succeed, and be the greatest player I could possibly be. After, months and months of practice including extra batting and fielding practice with my Grandpa and Great Uncle, came my first tournament. All in all, I was petrified and anxious. I was shaking. It was definitely, overall, my best season yet. I played second base and I made diving catches. I threw myself around and dove and slid. But my most treasured memory was in the Eau Claire tournament, we were winning by a lot, and I was up to bat. I remember timing the pitcher the out….counting...One...Two...Three… And swing...
