Zenda Farms SWOT Analysis The Thousand Island Land Trust (TILT) owns and manages Zenda Farms Preserve. TITL’s mission is to conserve the natural beauty, wildlife habitat, and recreational opportunities of the Thousand Islands Region (Mascott, 2011). Zenda Farms currently provides locally grown produce for 25 families via the community gardens tended by said families. For the 16th year, Zenda Farms proudly hosts a yearly community picnic. Planning for the future requires periodic reviews of Zenda’s sustainability are needed. Typically businesses, in this case TILT spends time planning for Zenda’s next season and to look for new opportunities to build a more solid foundation geared toward protecting the Land Trust, Conservation and Sustainability. The most feasible way to plan ahead is by conducting a SWOT analysis. The analysis consists of determining what is or not working, how to make the farm more profitable, what activities to add to ensure more community participation, and how to attract daily visitors. The following paragraphs will capture key internal strengths and weaknesses and detail external threats and opportunities of Zenda Farms. Internal Strengths Zenda Farm currently uses the land for beef cattle and community gardening. A local farmer pays grazing fees for about 100 acres and what land is not used for grazing, he harvests hay on the rest. TILT does restrict the farmer from moving the fields, when the grassland birds are nesting and raising their offspring (Mascott, 2011). As mentioned previously there is also the community gardens for about 25 families and the yearly community picnic. Thousand Island Land Trust the trustees for Zenda Farm is on the right path to seek sustainability in fiscally and environmentally friendly way. There are many suggestions in regard to opportunities to grow the programs at Zenda’s Farms. As long as the Trustees continue to review to see what is or not working and what the possible internal weaknesses and external threats are, there should be success by the year 2020. However, the Trustees of Zenda Farms should continue to seek ways to generate positive revenues. In addition to adding more training programs in conjunction with the local schools and colleges. Many programs or families are willing to pay for training programs that promote the agricultural business, teach environmentally focused students and just as an overall fun program for the children.
