Along with inheriting the responsibilities of running Al Qaeda, Zawahiri inherited the problem of dealing with the difficult main Iraqi branch of Al Qaeda, ISI. ISI had a reputation of being problematic and disobedient. The group utilized Al Qaeda’s name and finances to carry out rogue acts without the permission of Al Qaeda leaders. When Osama and central command would plea for closer communication with the group, ISI would ignore them and operate however they pleased. Al Qaeda’s tolerance of the branch’s disobedience wore thin with the unauthorized appointment of a new ISI leader: Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. Al Qaeda had no prior knowledge to who this was, what he stood for, or where he came from (Malik). With ISI nearing elimination by counter-terrorism, …show more content…
Al Qaeda's loss of popularity and power is partially the fault of Zawahiri. Praised Al Qaeda member and ISIS critic Abu Muhammad al-Maqdisi said, “From the beginning of his appointment, he lacked direct military and operational control (Malik).” Zawahiri tried to be the leader of a large terrorist organization like Al Qaeda from the isolation of mountains in Afghanistan, but the center of their jihad activity was in Syria and Iraq. Lack of leadership has caused the organizational structure of Al Qaeda to collapse, causing Al Qaeda to run solely off of allegiance. However, Al Qaeda is losing that allegiance. With ISIS gaining more and more power everyday, the once loyal donors of Al Qaeda are now focusing their donations to ISIS, who uses this money to buy the loyalty of many countries and Islamic groups. The gradual death of veteran members is causing a significant downgrade in the actions of Al Qaeda, and more youth pledge their allegiance to Al Qaeda everyday. ISIS is winning these young recruits because the youth wants action, blood, and explosions. They have been waiting on their chance with Al Qaeda, and Zawahiri has done nothing to reassure youth of Al Qaeda’s future

The most infamous leader of the Al Qaeda is Osama bin Laden of Saudi Arabia. Osama Bin Laden did not derive his theories, practices, or views because he was educated or raised through the teachings of Islamic seminaries, though his principal inspiration appears to be based upon far-reaching religious sentiment. His higher education was actually the study of engineering at a prominent university in Saudi Arabia (Schweitzer and Shay, 2003). Sheikh Abdullah Azzam, a Palestinian, was a highly regarded mentor and the primary source of persuasion for Bin Laden’s ideology and fundamental vision. Azzam was the main architect behind jihad views and is credited as the founder of Al Qaeda. Osama Bin Laden also shaped his outlook from the works and actions of zealous Islamic philosophers from all over the middle-eastern region of the world that opposed Soviet occupation (...
Events that capture the entire world’s attention are few and far between. Fighting wars normally occurs between acknowledged enemies. In the war against terrorism, most notably, the war against Al-Qaeda, the enemy is unknown. One is not the enemy of the United States of America by virtue of one’s ethnic heritage. A Muslim is not a hidden enemy simply because he is Muslim. A Muslim does however become the enemy when he targets the world as a member of Al-Qaeda, the vision of one man. He was an intelligent and educated man who came from wealth and high esteem, who, guided by his faith, through radicalization, exile from homeland, and anti-western sentiments, built the terrorist organization known as Al- Qaeda. His name was Osama bin Laden.

The teachers demanded a great amount of respect. She had little to no technology growing up, only having a TV with two channels. Kasia had no internet, no computer, and not even a home phone. She says that although having technology now is more convenient, having no technology makes you spend more time with your family and gives you more time to enjoy life.

The celebration is a lot like Christmas here in America. But Navidad has a much more traditional and spiritual significance than what we celebrate. Under Baathi regime military, bureaucracy and security services was divided into several competing institutions which reinforced Hussein’s dictatorship in Iraq. In the post war Iraq, the USA in collaboration with the Iraq National Congress and the Supreme Council of Islamic Revolution started to make Iraq a democracy that is similar to the American political culture and values.
The abrupt end of decade long dominating regime in three weeks had created a political vacuum, that is evident in shifting coalitions and divisions among religious groups, ethnic groups, regional groups and even classes (Barnett et al. 2003, 25).
