Zapotec Civilization Have you ever seen and ancient artifact? Olmec civilization, which was the largest civilization in America, consisted of 350,000 people. Over time, Olmec influenced many other cultures and civilizations over time such as the Zapotec. We know this because of ancient artifacts found in the earth’s surface. The Zapotec civilization was relevant from 1500B.C. to 750A.D. I found interest in this civilization because they shared some of the unique religious beliefs as the Olmec. Some of the religious beliefs of the Zapotec civilization included three gods; sun god, rain god, and lightning god. There were many civilizations of Zapotec, they were not all in one place, they were in many. Where they were, determined what gods they worshiped more heavily between the gods. Each god was believed to be worshiped by giving sacrifices which was depended on how they did at the Ball Game.This was a part of worshiping the gods and bringing entertainment to the people. Because Zapotecs were conquerors and traders instead of isolationists, other societies ,who zapotec had conquered, wanted revenge and gained forces to create and army. Wiping out Zapotecs civilization one by one, it was easier than trying to take them on all at once. Therefor, Zapotecs spread of civilizations was what cause the end of their culture. Another factor that led to the end of zapotecs culture was the death of great kings that could no longer be replaced. Zapotecs sadly did not influence any cultures of their own because they were conquered by other civilizations that were greater
