“Old rough and ready” also known as Zachary Taylor was not the most educated president but, this never stopped him from leading the Mexican War, being one of the strongest nationalists, and a great president!
Who would of ever thought that a little boy who grew up in the country would grow up to be a wonderful president! Well that’s exactly what happened to Zachary Taylor. He was born on November 24th, 1784 in Montebello, Orange County, Virginia. HE grew up on Beargrass creek, Louisville Kentucky. The Taylor family spent a great deal of time at the Springfield Farm, which had a large brick house on it. His family was large consisting of four brothers and, three sisters. Later on when he married Margaret Mackall Smith on June 21st, 1810, they had a large family also, five girls and one boy. During his lifetime, he spent a lot of his time and energy working and helping out on the farm. He also grew close to his riding horse, which he enjoyed. His old war-horse went by the name of Whitey. Unfortunately Taylor passed away on July 9th, 1850 in Washington D.C while he was still serving in office. His death was rather peculiar though. On July 4th, while at a party, Taylor was enjoying a bowl of cherries and glasses milk but suffered from cholera morbus for five days then died on July 9th.
Today, we are all so fortunate that we can go to school and get a great education. But back when Zachary Taylor was young, he never received a formal education. He gained his education from a small school in Louisville, Kentucky and from a series of tutors. He never went to college and he worked on his father’s plantation until he was twenty-three. A year later he was commissioned First Lieutenant of Infantry. From there on out, he dedicated for...

Throughout this research project, I have discovered many new and exiting things about Zachary Taylor and it has been a very educational experience!

The “Presidents Club” is not written in an orderly way. The reason why the “Presidents Club” is written this w is because the authors Nancy Gibbs and Michael Duffy only write about recent presidencies that they have witnessed throughout their lifetimes. By witnessing these presidencies the authors have watched the presidents from Truman to Obama make lifetime relationships. Life relationships take decades to form. To write this book, memoirs and presidential correspondences were used rather more than actual interviews.
From the first chapter, Zach made a wise choice in declaring himself as a reliable speaker on the topics of gay marriage. The story starts with him preparing and ultimately delivering his speech to the Iowa Legislature on marriage equality:

His father, James Buchanan, and his mother Elizabeth Speer Buchanan, raised their son a Presbyterian. He grew up in a well to do home, being the eldest of eleven other siblings. His parents cared for them all in their mansion in Pennsylvania. They sent him to Dickinson College.
Paul Taylor Paul Taylor was born on July 29th, 1930 in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania, about a year after the stock market crashed that led to the Great Depression. Hiram Ulysses Grant, most commonly known as Ulysses S Grant, was the United States of America’s eighteenth president. But being president was only one of his many titles. Grant was the husband to Julia Boggs Dent from St. Louis, Missouri. Julia was twenty-two years old when she married Grant on August 22, 1848. Julia had many nicknames for her husband Grant: Dodo, Dode, and Dody. They we very in love and remained completely faithful to one and other. Taylor did not vote until he was 62 years old, it’s ironic because he became a president even though he was not into voting for previous presidents (Maps of World 2013). He was the second president to die in office. Zachary did not vote, because he was a soldier. Abraham Lincoln gave a speech at Zachary’s funeral. He had a horse named Old Whitney who did well in the Mexican War. Taylor awarded his horse by letting him graze on the White House lawn. Taylor chewed tobacco (Maps of World 2013). He was also the last president to own slaves while still in the White House. Taylor gained his nickname, “Old Rough and Ready: because of fighting in the Seminole Indian War (Maps of World 2013).

The seventh president of the United States, Andrew Jackson, was born on March 17, 1767 in Waxhaw, South Carolina. Growing up, he was educated in an “old field school” in South Carolina and at the age of 13, joined the army as a courier boy. After the American Revolutionary War, Jackson found himself as an orphan. Both of Jackson’s brothers and mother had either succumbed to death during the war or illnesses that they could not overcome, leaving Jackson at the age of 14 to live with relatives. After studying law in North Carolina, Jackson was admitted to the bar in 1787 and practiced until he became solicitor for present day Tennessee. In 1788 he moved to Nashville and became a prominent lawyer. After the Panic of 1795, which ended the prospering business boom after the American Revolution, Jackson was left with his land, naming it The Hermitage. Jackson lived as a cotton planter with a handful of slaves, in-between the business of his political endeavors. After marrying Rachel Donelson in 1791, they would later remarry in 1794 after finding that her first marriage to someone else was not legally ended. This would later be ammunition to his opposition who claimed Rachel to be a bigamist and him a wife stealer.
When Andrew was nine years old the Declaration of Independence was wrote and signed. Then when he was only thirteen he joined the Continental Army as a courier. The Revolution hurt the Jackson family. All three boys saw the front lines. Andrew’s oldest brother Hugh, died in the Battle of Stono Ferry. Then two years later Andrew and Robert, his other older brother, were taken for prisoners for a few weeks in April of 1781.They both got smallpox and within a few days of getting let go Robert died. Later on that year Elizabeth Jackson went to Charleston to nurse American prisoners of war. There she contracted either ship fever or cholera and died. After the war was over, Andrew found himself an orphan and an only child at 14. The next year and a half he spent living with relatives and being apprenticed to a saddle maker.
It appears that the public does not genuinely care about the significance of a president being assassinated. The public honors and cherishes Ford’s Theatre because they romanticize Lincoln as a great American hero because of his role during the Civil War, while McKinley and Garfield are lucky to be mentioned in a high school history book. To the public, McKinley and Garfield are both footnotes in American history that barely deserve to have a plaque to signify where these leaders, chosen by the public, were murdered. Though Garfield is not worthy of a plaque, Americans have chosen to erect monuments to the events in history that they should be most ashamed of, such as slavery, yet honoring the former life of an elected president is not a selection that the public is passionate enough about to commemorate. Members of the public may choose to visit the locations where McKinley or Garfield were assassinated, but it appears it is more to say that they went rather than commemorate, or learn about, these presidents. Even with Lincoln, to some extent, the public has hidden the president in the basement of the theatre forcing his assassination to be more of an afterthought. Vowell admitted that she enjoyed the play she watched in the theatre more than she really should have while being within sight of where one of the United States’
First he attempts to steal Dr.Zira’s notepad and gets attacked by the guards thinking he is trying to harm Zira. Next he tries to write the words, “I can write” in the sand while he is outside but Nova, a mute human wipes it away. His last and successful attempt to prove he can write is taking Zira’s notepad and writing “My name is Taylor” in it. Through all of these attempts, Taylor is trying to show his self actualization; or the fact that he has much more potential than the rest of the human kind on the planet at that time. This is also known as “Super ego” or what a person knows is right and expressing rational thought. In this case Taylor wants to prove he is not from the planet he is on because from what he knows, it is an entirely new
Ever since I was in eighth grade, I have been obsessed with Taylor Swift. She has been my role model since I was thirteen. When you look at most singers today, they have to be singing about drugs or alcohol, using vulgar language, or performing half-dressed. You never see Taylor Swift doing anything that she would be ashamed of later in life. On the other hand, she has had many relationships that have lasted short time periods. At least, she is not getting married for 72 days or even 24 hours such Kim Kardashian or Britney Spears. This is why I chose to write a research paper on her.
