Recommended: Important events leading up to the civil war

“Old rough and ready” also known as Zachary Taylor was not the most educated president but, this never stopped him from leading the Mexican War, being one of the strongest nationalists, and a great president!

Who would of ever thought that a little boy who grew up in the country would grow up to be a wonderful president! Well that’s exactly what happened to Zachary Taylor. He was born on November 24th, 1784 in Montebello, Orange County, Virginia. HE grew up on Beargrass creek, Louisville Kentucky. The Taylor family spent a great deal of time at the Springfield Farm, which had a large brick house on it. His family was large consisting of four brothers and, three sisters. Later on when he married Margaret Mackall Smith on June 21st, 1810, they had a large family also, five girls and one boy. During his lifetime, he spent a lot of his time and energy working and helping out on the farm. He also grew close to his riding horse, which he enjoyed. His old war-horse went by the name of Whitey. Unfortunately Taylor passed away on July 9th, 1850 in Washington D.C while he was still serving in office. His death was rather peculiar though. On July 4th, while at a party, Taylor was enjoying a bowl of cherries and glasses milk but suffered from cholera morbus for five days then died on July 9th.

Today, we are all so fortunate that we can go to school and get a great education. But back when Zachary Taylor was young, he never received a formal education. He gained his education from a small school in Louisville, Kentucky and from a series of tutors. He never went to college and he worked on his father’s plantation until he was twenty-three. ...eat majority of his life on a farm in the country, I live and have always lived in the city. Zachary Taylor has inspired me in my school life because he didn’t have a formal education, and also he inspired me in my personal life to be a strong and independent person.

Throughout this research project, I have discovered many new and exiting things about Zachary Taylor and it has been a very educational experience!

    The seventh president of the United States, Andrew Jackson, was born on March 17, 1767 in Waxhaw, South Carolina. Growing up, he was educated in an “old field school” in South Carolina and at the age of 13, joined the army as a courier boy. After the American Revolutionary War, Jackson found himself as an orphan. Both of Jackson’s brothers and mother had either succumbed to death during the war or illnesses that they could not overcome, leaving Jackson at the age of 14 to live with relatives. After studying law in North Carolina, Jackson was admitted to the bar in 1787 and practiced until he became solicitor for present day Tennessee. In 1788 he moved to Nashville and became a prominent lawyer. After the Panic of 1795, which ended the prospering business boom after the American Revolution, Jackson was left with his land, naming it The Hermitage. Jackson lived as a cotton planter with a handful of slaves, in-between the business of his political endeavors. After marrying Rachel Donelson in 1791, they would later remarry in 1794 after finding that her first marriage to someone else was not legally ended. This would later be ammunition to his opposition who claimed Rachel to be a bigamist and him a wife stealer.
