Yeti
“There can be no prestige without mystery, for familiarity breeds contempt” (Charles de Gaulle). Cryptids denote animals or creatures whose existence has yet to be scientifically proven. The yeti or as the Sherpa people (mountain people from Nepal) say “meh-teh” meaning man bear remains one greatest cryptids. Yeti’s height ranges between five to seven feet tall, having large feet with a pronounced big toe, and long white or brown hair covering its whole body. The weight of the yeti is estimated to be from 200 pounds to 400 pounds depending on the height. In addition, the yeti walks upright with large feet and dwells in the Himalayan Mountains and in the eastern Siberian region. The first account of yeti dates back to the fourth century

BC. Although many ignorant people discredit the idea of the yeti, various eyewitness accounts, physical evidence, and folkloric accounts establish an inevitability of the existence of the yeti. So many eyewitness accounts occur continuously not only by the locals but by visitors to the Himalayan region and in Siberia.
In late August of 2012 a fisherman known as Vitaly Vershinin sighted Yeti in the Kemerovo region near Myski Village. In the boat the fisherman first thinking they were bears and then people he tried to get their attention. Later, the yetis “rushed away, all in fur, walking on two legs, making their way through the bushes and with two other limbs, straight up the hill” (“Just the Facts”). The fact that this fisherman sighted Yeti without looking for Yeti simply makes it more believable. Furthermore, a creature that walks on two legs and is covered in fur just resembles the concept of “yeti.” Although many people may discredit this sighting and others similar to it simply due to the lack of evidence, situations like this are the main reasons sightings occur. If a Yeti researcher goes out into the forest looking for Yeti they most likely will not see a Yeti due to the noise they make and the scent they output through the wind. When just fishing on a boat the Yeti may not notice anything menacing and just carry on. Yetis are not stupid and this is why it remains so challenging to scientifically prove yeti’s existence, however the eyewitness accounts present an undeniable existence of
yeti. Physical evidence remains a key to the existence of Yeti. In 1951 British mountaineers Eric Shipton and Micheal Ward located and followed some of the best-recorded Yeti footprints ever seen. “They found the footprints on the southwestern slopes of the Menlung Glacier, which lies between Tibet and Nepal, at an altitude of 20,000” (). Yeti’s footprints are thirty cm wide and forty-five cm long with five toes according to Eric Shipton and Micheal Ward, which confirms legitimacy through the similarity to the average yeti description. These prints are cavernous which suggest it must have been heavy, similar to the expected weight of 200 to 400 of the Yeti. The fact that the British mountaineers sighted yeti in such a remote location simply provides a reason why not many people have seen Yeti or witnessed evidence of Yeti. The way in which the footprints are depicted prove that whatever tracks were seen walked upright, which exactly resemble the historical knowledge of Yeti’s that he is walks of two legs. Some people claim this must have just been a bear, however a bear would not walk around on two feet for very long. Picture evidence displays a footprint with similarities to the human foot, however much bigger which indubitably explains the fact that Yeti exists. Considering the solid picture evidence of yeti’s footprint, The idea of yeti flows throughout the culture of Nepal and Tibet. Yeti has established such a folkloric reputation, “The government of Nepal officially declared the Yeti to exist in 1961” (Cryptopedia). The acknowledgment of the existence of Yeti represents the locals respect for Yeti and supports the representation of the Tibetan meaning of the word yeh-teh translating to “man like animal.” Although the meaning reports Yeti, as “little” the key part of the Tibetan definition is the inclusion of the word “animal” which reveals their true belief that yeti is an animal and not just a mythical religious based belief. Based off of Tibetan knowledge, Yeti involved stories have been told as far back as the fourth century BC. The earliest form of yeti folklore was told in the poem “Rama and Sita.” The story discusses “Hanuman” which is also known as a vanara (human with monkey’s tail and face). Hanuman represents the servant of Lord Rama and remains a Hindu god. Overall, the numerous instances throughout the culture of Nepal and Tibet insinuate yeti has endured and will In conclusion, the existence of yeti is evident due to many factors. The cultural significance of yeti for thousands of years establishes yeti’s veracity. In addition, sightings recorded as far back as 100 years ago confirm his presents in the Himalayan region. Although controversial, the yeti tracks found provide solid physical evidence of Yeti’s unusual footprint. In the near future, the inevitable will happen and yeti will be confirmed once and for all.
Firstly, with Hickory Hollow is the disappearing crayfish in Ribbon Cave. This problem, it seems, is the result of heavy metals found in the water. The heavy metals were found at the site of Ribbon Cave, as well as the northern portion of Aram Creek. We tested for heavy metals at well sites G, I, L, M, and S for heavy metals, with the only positives being well sites I and L. Nevertheless, this still confirmed our theory. The heavy metals found in the water have most likely resulted from Compara Corp’s hazardous waste spills, a problem that has occurred multiple times. The heavy metals found in the water being lead, tin, copper, and ammonia would then be highly probable. To fix this problem the answer is simple, “The answer, according to the agency and an outside expert, is twofold: treatment and dilution” (Pappas, 1). Treating the water is simple: the water needs the acidity to be reduced. After that is done, you must dilute the water (add water to the creek). However, the problems will never fully go away, but they will be greatly decreased. In conclusion, in order to save the lives of the crayfish, Hickory Hollow must treat Aram Creek in order to strip the heavy metals.
What is scaly, creepy, 50 feet long, and swims in the world's most notorious lake? If you said The Loch Ness Monster, then you’re correct! The Loch Ness Monster, mostly known as the creature Nessie, is a huge, “mythical” creature that has been scaring the people of Ireland for centuries, but this monster is actually real.
To explain the unexplained the Kiowas had myths, and Momaday tells these myths of their journeys in a historical voice. One of their myths explained how they came into this world and why their numbers are so small: “the Kiowas came one by one into the world through a hollow log. They were many more than now, but not all of them got out. There was a woman whose body was swollen up with child, and she got stuck in the log. After that, no one could get through, and that is why the Kiowas are a small tribe in number”(16). The few of them that managed to come out of the log saw so many things that it made them glad to which they decided to call themselves Kwuda, and later Tepda, both of which mean “coming out”(17). The Kiowa saw an amazing new world as they came out of the hollow log; Another of the unexplained that they explain through the myths is the story of how the big dipper came to be, “Eight children were there at play, seven sisters and their brother. Suddenly the boy was struck dumb; he trembled and began to run upon his hands and feet. His fingers became claws, and his body was covered with fur. Directly there was a bear where the boy had been . . .The seven sisters were borne into the sky, and they became the stars of the Big Dipper”(8). This story shows how they explain the unknown of nature through stories. With this story Momaday uses a great deal of
legends about those wild half-human beasts who haunt the edges of our forests and lurk in the
One of the most well-known urban legends told is the story of Bigfoot. Much of the research has shown that there are several names assigned to the mammoth ape. According to Napier (1973), Bigfoot would be the creature found mostly in Northwest America, Sasquatch would be a creature named in British Colombia, the 49th parallel in the north-west states of America and Northern California, and the Abominable Snowman, or the Yeti would be the creature named in the Himalayas. Of course, “Wild Man” and “Savage” have also been names used to identify the creature. There’s been thousands of sightings across the world, but there have also been many misidentifications where those who think they have seen Bigfoot have really just seen an ordinary animal or person. Arment (2006) states an individual’s perception may color the eyewitness account. Such misidentifications include: hermits, fugitives, refugees, bears, gorillas, and simply people making up stories or rumors. In addition to sightings, there have been photos, videos, movies, and TV shows that strongly indicates the possibility of the existence of this creature. Though there is much evidence from sightings, myths, and recordings that Bigfoot exists, there is also much proof that it could all be a hoax. Incorrect sightings have led skeptics to argue over the existence of this being stating Bigfoot is really just a fable. So one has to ask oneself, does Bigfoot really exist or is it just another urban legend?
Is Bigfoot really a mythical creature roaming the world? Nobody can answer that question, not if our scientist today. Bigfoot is a large, hairy, apelike creature resembling a yeti, there are found in Northwestern America. There is another name that Bigfoot is called and it’s Sasquatch. Some people believe in Bigfoot and try to find it. Others who think it’s a ridiculous idea to be searching for something that no one can find. There are others who are in the middle and others who just don’t care. There are evidence from films, eyewitnesses, photographs, hair sample, and footprints.
The theory of there being an ape like beast that walks through our wilderness all started with a 16mm film in Bluff Creek, California by Roger Patterson and Bob Gimlin in 1967. The video displayed a tall, hairy human like figure trolling along a timber clearing walking briskly away from Patterson and Gimlin. The film ignited a craze amongst scientist and viewers to go on a conquest to prove Bigfoots existence. The 1967 film was never proven to be a hoax or real evidence and still today is a toss up.
This provides powerful insight into the role Bigfoot like creatures played in Native American cultures. Some tribes were not afraid of the creatures, considering them kind and helpful, while peacefully coexisting with them. Other tribes found them to be more violent and dangerous creatures. The fact that these tribes called the animals Stick Indians or Brush Indians seems to suggest that the creatures were simply other tribes they did not get along with opposed to a village of mythical creatures. Some examples of Bigfoot like creatures in Native American tribes include the Chiye – Tanka, the Lofa, the Maxemista, and the popular Sasquatch. The Chiye – Tanka was the Bigfoot like creature of the Sioux Indians (“Native American,” n.d.). This animal
Almost 4% of Hawaiian Monk Seals are dying off each year. These seals need food to survive, just like any other species. Humans are fishing so much in Hawaii that these wonderful creatures have nothing to eat. Most of their diet consists of ocean animals which humans take away by fishing. Fishing is having a negative effect on The Hawaiian Monk Seal, because fishing is not being practiced responsibly, so we should reduce the amount of fish being taken out of the water.
Have you ever wondered what and where the Yeti’s habitat is? Well, I certainly have! The Yeti is an interesting creature that's biome is in the great Himalayan mountains of Asia.Research states that when the Yeti is on the mountain he ends up finding a place to stay, which is on the side of a mountain. The Yeti picks it’s cave on the side of the mountain because when it snows, snow flurries fly in and eventually, a pile of snow ends up in the corner used as a bed. This is why the Yeti’s result when tested has similar DNA to apes. (Fun Fact!). Do you know what the Yeti eats? According to Google the Yeti eats yaks, mountain sheep/goats,and bamboo, as his last resort if he can find any. Research has stated that the Yeti was actually first sighted
They are invasive because; they compete with native bottom dwelling fish for food. They threaten the several species in the Great Lakes Basin. The Round Goby have reduced the population of sport fish by eating their eggs and and young ones. Also by competing for food.Researchers believe that the Round Goby is also connected to the botulism type E outbreaks in the Great Lake's fish and fish
I was sitting in a basement that smelled bad and was stuffy, I needed to get out of there. I was with my friend who liked to ride bikes. So, we decided to ride bikes. Outside we only had 1 normal bike, the other was an old bike with a banana seat on it. I lost a coin toss so I had to ride the trashy bike that had trouble even going straight. There was a trail down at the park where we would ride the bikes. We thought we would go there first and then go climb on playground after. At the very beginning of the trail there’s this difficult hill that goes pretty fast and shoots you right at a left turn. If you didn’t slow down and turn fast enough you would crash.
Everyone has heard of aliens, and UFO sightings across America, the craziness of gettingabducted by aliens or circles found in corn fields caused by UFOs. According the urban legendin Area 51 the government is harboring aliens and doing all sorts of tests on them and everyonehas heard of E.T. the movie. There’s grey aliens and green aliens but have you heard of a redaliens wearing a green dress like clothing? It’s “nearly 12 feet tall and about four feetwide”(Griffin, 2012) known as the Flatwoods Monster, it’s also known as the “Braxton CountyMonster” it’s roughly 65 years old. Fun fact is in Flatwoods, WV they have a celebration andevents for their monster every year. The Flatwoods Monster originated in Flatwoods, West Virginia in Braxton
One of my most memorable days in my life was when I came to Flatwoods. I awaken from slumber it was about 7:50. I usually wake up at 7:00 but the previous day I received a letter in the mail saying I have been approved at job corps of VA aka Flatwoods. I have to be ready to leave at 10:30 so I can catch the bus. I have arrived at the Greyhound and it was quite a while so I had some free time. Going to the store I saw a Subway. I ate there for 40 minutes it was now 10:28 and on my way walking back and people was just loading up on the bus. The man driving the bus checked my bus ticket and I put my bags on the bus.
A polar bear is a one of the eight species. “Scientists believe that the polar bear began over 200,000 years ago. They came from the brown bears ancestors.” Most experts think that polar bears are the longest bears. Males measure over 10 feet long, when standing on their hind legs, other bear not so much. Brown bears and polar bear are the largest and are both land carnivores. Polar bears are one of the worlds largest world predictors.
