When the “yellow rain” dried, it became yellow dust. Some of the dust was pollen, but it seemed that pollen have been stripped of proteins. For example, a man named Eng Yang, who was living in a village in Laos, saw this “yellow rain”. One day, his whole village was attacked. He and thousands of other Hmong (the village people) fled their homes and went hiding in the jungle. That's when they said that they started seeing yellow droplets that fell from the sky. The result of this was dying plants, animals, and eventually

As the author and the character O’Brien describes his experiences about the draft to the Vietnam War. He face the conflict of whether he must or must not go to the war, in this moment O’Brien thinking that he is so good for war, and that he should not be lost in that way. After the yellow dust has been researched, and been proven non-toxic, the people of the town were “reminded of waking in the morning after the first snow.(2)” Usually, when someone wakes to find snow outside, it is a pleasant and happy experience. This means that the yellow dust is not only being symbolized as harmless, but is also being symbolized as happiness as well. Immigrants are also like this because they are harmless, but they also bring happiness as well to people who are open to bringing them into the
The novel, The Color of Water follows the author and narrator James McBride, and his mother Ruth’s life. It explores their childhood—when they were both embarrassed by their mothers—through the part of their lives where they began to accept themselves for who they are. Moreover, this memoir is quite distinctive as McBride cleverly parallels his story to his mother, Ruth’s story using dual narration. This technique further helps contribute to the theme of self-identity. Throughout the novel, McBride searches for identity and a sense of belonging that derives from his multiracial family. By using two different narrations, McBride gradually establishes his identity and by integrating both narratives at the end, McBride also shows that although both narrators at the beginning had different upbringings, in the end they came together, and understood each other’s perspective.
History will never forget the pain because it takes an ethnic or even a nation to remember it. The Nanjing Massacre, which is my home country’s pain and shame, is not going to be forgotten and ignored either. The Raping of Nanking by Iris Chang, a Chinese American writer has reshaped my view on the atrocities the Japanese soldiers had committed and raises a question: Why we need to remember the past and face it? Remembering history does not just mean to be blocked by the past and stop moving on but looking for the lessons the history has taught us and prevent the world from making the same mistakes again.
The relationship you have with others often has a direct effect on the basis of your very own personal identity. In the essay "On The Rainy River," the author Tim O'Brien tells about his experiences and how his relationship with a single person had effected his life so dramatically. It is hard for anyone to rely fully on their own personal experiences when there are so many other people out there with different experiences of their own. Sometimes it take the experiences and knowledge of others to help you learn and build from them to help form your own personal identity. In the essay, O'Brien speaks about his experiences with a man by the name of Elroy Berdahl, the owner of the fishing lodge that O'Brien stays at while on how journey to find himself. The experiences O'Brien has while there helps him to open his mind and realize what his true personal identity was. It gives you a sense than our own personal identities are built on the relationships we have with others. There are many influence out there such as our family and friends. Sometimes even groups of people such as others of our nationality and religion have a space in building our personal identities.

Love has the power to do anything. Love can heal and love can hurt. Love is something that is indescribable and difficult to understand. Love is a feeling that cannot be accurately expressed by a word. In the poem “The Rain” by Robert Creeley, the experience of love is painted and explored through a metaphor. The speaker in the poem compares love to rain and he explains how he wants love to be like rain. Love is a beautiful concept and through the abstract comparison to rain a person is assisted in developing a concrete understanding of what love is. True beauty is illuminated by true love and vice versa. In other words, the beauty of love and all that it entails is something true.
Stephen Crane's "The Bride Comes to Yellow Sky," as well as his other Western stories, owe much to Mark Twain's approach to the West. According to Eric Solomon, "both authors…used humor to comment on the flaws of traditional fictional processes" (237). While employing parody of the Western literary tradition, Crane also uses realism to depict the influence of the East on the West. In "The Bride Comes to Yellow Sky," Stephen Crane uses symbolism to develop his study of the changes effected on the West and the roles of its inhabitants by the encroachment of eastern society.
Is technology the savior of our generation? Is technology pulling us away from the actual important things in our life? In the literary works of Kelly Greene and Ray Bradbury, “Inside the Home of the Future,” and “There Will Come Soft Rains,” both of these authors discuss about the subject of technology, but they both have very opposite views of it. Although technology makes life easier, it only performs the task set by an intelligent mind, and without that purpose defined by intelligence, technology serves little purpose.

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s novel Half of a Yellow Sun explores the events that occur prior and during the Nigerian Civil War (Biafran War). In addition, the novel is directed to those of us outside of Nigeria that are unaware of how immensely the war has impacted its people. The author tells the story ingeniously, engaging the reader to the perspectives of the characters and their own specific plot, which is quite intriguing on its own. Moreover, she gently touches on the dark reality of the Biafran War in such a way that it educates the reader, but does not change the feel of the narrative. The impact of the war on her parents served as deep motivation for Adichie to bring forth this type of storytelling (cite this). Her perspective on the effect of the postcolonial identity of Nigeria, which leads into the war, is clearly reflected in one of the protagonists of the novel, Olanna. The trauma endured by her parents and family has led her to construct
