Under the Yale System, I will be able to gain early exposure to patient care by partaking in clinical clerkships at the Yale-New Haven Hospital. Research My first research experience took place from the Fall 2012 – Summer 2013 in a neurobiology laboratory (Dr. Daniel Plas) focused on Parkinson’s Disease. In this project an undergrad student and I were tasked with optimizing a cellular medium for neural growth of the model organism Lymnaea stagnalis. This was comprised of following established protocols and altering certain variables within the formulas (differing concentrations of ions, pH, et al.) to observe growth pattern differences in vitro.

Admittance into the University of Georgia’s Honors Program would push me to continually test my potential in the pursuit of my Pre-Medical studies. I take pride in challenging myself to completely master a field of study that enhance my capabilities, and therefore, prepare myself to strive for my next goal in life. The 4+4 program at Hofstra caught my interest after I researched its medical school, the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. Northwell comprises some of the most renowned hospitals in the New York area, from the Long Island Jewish Medical Center to Lenox Hill Hospital. Aside from being partnered with such a prestigious institution, the Zucker School of Medicine’s progressive, “case based” curriculum is what intrigued me the most. Few medical schools offer to train its students for the 21st century, and this hands on approach seems like the best method to expose students from our generation to the ever changing field of healthcare. From working in groups to solve weekly cases to using real world patient cases to explain concepts, I feel as if the Zucker School of Medicine offers an optimal experience for its students to succeed in their fields.

King skipped ninth and eleventh grade. He stood up and became a leader in the Civil Rights Movement to try to get equal rights for all. He is very well known for his "I Have A Dream" speech which took place in front of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC on August 28, 1963. San Diego is home to many hardworking individuals who diligently work during the week and long for their days off to visit the many attractions the city has to offer. Whether it is heading to work or going to Balboa Park for a family outing, San Diegans are conscious that MTS is there to ensure they arrive to their destination in a convenient and timely manner. Being California’s second largest city, San Diego is vulnerable to frustrating traffic during rush hours, yet people are slowly recognizing MTS’s efforts to alleviate this issue and ensure that not only arrive to their destination on time, but do so efficiently; cost is not an issue and the routes are well-planned in effort to avoid traffic. People often think badly of public transportation; MTS has become an exception since it has been invested in creating a positive experience for both San Diegans who use the transportation system on a daily basis or those who ride a single bus once.

I began my college career unsure of the path ahead of me. I knew I had a passion for medicine, however, I did not know which direction I would take. With the expansive amount of options offered within the fields of science and medicine, it was difficult to narrow down exactly what direction I wanted to take.
