XM Satellite Radio is a company that is different than many that we have seen in the past. This is due to the rather small number of competitors that XM had in their industry. Although radio has been around for decades, XM Satellite Radio was much different by opting to use satellites to send signals to radios while having a much higher level of quality. At the time of XM’s creation, their sole competitor was Sirius, making it very difficult for others potential competitors to enter the industry due to high regulation. Since XM only has one direct competitor in their industry, they have the ability to focus most of their efforts of how to gain an edge over Sirius Radio, rather than multiple competitors. Indirectly, XM still has to compete with …show more content…
XM’s value proposition to its consumers is that they are able to provide an uninterrupted, high level of music quality that other music services cannot provide. Because of this high level of quality, consumers should expect to pay a fee that goes along with the subscription to the service. To those consumers who are long commuters, XM’s value proposition should be that wherever they go, their listening will be uninterrupted by a lack in signal or a change in location. This advantage is very beneficial to XM due to the flaw of normal radio not sending signals far enough for large consumers to enjoy the same station for the duration of the trip. To those that are interested in superior music quality, the benefit that XM has over many other services is that fact that the have, “near CD quality,” sound, making it a much better option that the typical radio. The primary target of XM Satellite radio should those consumers who are interested in a higher level of uninterrupted music quality. Their main focus should be consumers who are younger in age such as college students or recent graduates who are often early adopters to new trends and technologies in the
Once the target market has been identified it is important to develop a marketing strategy. In today's fast paced, information overloaded society; conveying a message about a product seems to be more difficult than ever. The consumer is bombarded with advertising everywhere they look. Today advertising not only exists on television, radio, magazines, and newspapers, it can be found on billboards, park benches, in our mailboxes, on buses, taxis, at sporting events, and on clothing.

Before the 1990’s, if people want to listen to music, they just visit a music store and pick up a CD and then put it into a stereo equipment. However, the development of MP3 file format gradually changed the way people listen to music. This format lets everyone download music easily and it can be converted to CD as well. But, there is still a problem: searching MP3 files on the internet is maddening and people seldom can find the music they want. Therefore, the birth of Napster solved this problem, creating a virtual music community in which music fans could use the Web as a “swap meet” for music files. More importantly, Napster is easy to use and it’s free, which expands the range of audience in age. Bandwidth also contributed to Napster’s success. The greater the bandwidth, the faster the file can be transferred. So, Napster really changed the way people listen to music, discover music and interact with music.
The two movies I choose to compare and contrast are I Am Sam and Radio. In both of these movies the main characters expressed signs of being exceptional learners. In I Am Sam, Sam Dawson, is the main character that shows autistic tendencies accompanied by intellectual disabilities. “The most common syndromes associated with intellectual disability are autism, Down syndrome, Fragile X syndrome and Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD).” (berns peter, 2016). INTRODUCTION Would people be willing to pay $12.50/month for commercial free radio beamed right to their car or home. Well two companies and many big investors are betting about $3 billion dollars that people are willing to do just that. In 1997, the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) granted a portion of the S-band spectrum for satellite radio and two companies purchased use of these bands and started the only two companies competing in the satellite radio business today, namely Sirius and XM. Analysts like William Kidd of CE Unterberg Towpin, predict satellite radio will generate about $10 billion a year in revenues by 2007 (McClean, 2001).
As a result of the FCC auction, the only XM’s competitor in satellite radio arena is SIRIUS. But at the same time there other entertainment sources that could be perceived as prospective competitors for XM.
Traditional AM/FM Radio. Sirius’s competition also includes traditional AM/FM radio. Unlike SIRIUS radio, traditional AM/FM radio has had a well established market for its services for many years and generally offers free broadcast reception paid for by commercial advertising rather than by a subscription fee. Also, many radio stations offer information programming of a local nature, such as local news and sports, which Sirius does not offer as effectively as local radio. Some radio stations also have begun reducing the number of commercials per hour, expanding the range of music played on the air and experimenting with new formats in order to compete more directly with satellite radio services.

Spotify has been in the spotlight within this particular segment of the streaming industry ever since its introduction to the United States in 2011. (Roose, n.d.)

In 2012, Jim Bankoff, described his vision stating, "Look at what Condé Nast did in magazine publishing, we can do that in digital publishing, meaning scale and quality and value,” (QUOTE). This vision manifested as a digital media company and online publishing platform born of the digital age, Vox Media. With eight vertical, editorial publications, including Vox (news), the Verge (technology), Polygon (gaming), Recode (technology business), Racked (Retail), Curbed (real-estate & architectural), SB Nation (sports), and Eater (culinary), Vox Media’s uniqueness is founded in the expert, editorial authority in which each brand produces content by deconstructing differing subjects and aspects of culture. Vox media’s content style is far from the only feature that distinguishes it as it has created balance between quality, digital journalism, storytelling and brand
