World War I, was also known as the Great War. It lasted from July 28, 1914 until November 11, 1918. There were several causes, the beginning of the war, the U.S involvement, what happens when the war ends, Peace without Victory, and the postwar economy booms. Several causes of World War I were nationalism, economic rivalries, imperial ambitions, and militarism. Nationalism played a big role in a cause because it was among Europe, from Germany, italy, Austria-Hungary, to Russia, France and Britain. Germany at the time was the strongest in the economic and military power in Europe. Germany wanted to expand the national pride that arose in this country to other parts of Europe. There were many things involved, including weapons, troops and people involved, and the stalemate. There were several weapons involved, including rifles and tanks. The British main rifle was the Lee-Enfield .303. The Germans used the Gewehr 98 rifle. Barbed Wire was also used. “It snagged on equipment and clothing and slowed attackers, who were often prime targets for snipers as they desperately tried to disentangle themselves.”( Abayawickrema) American brought in Machine guns invented by Hiram Maxim. This gun could fire 400 rounds a minute. Poison gas was another main weapon. The German’s first used chlorine gas and the British later in the war developed mustard gas. Aircraft were used and this led to dog fights in the sky. Tanks were a huge weapon, developed by Winston Churchill. The last most known weapon was U-boats or submarines. The Germans were the main users of these. Used to sink passenger ships and cargo ships. “as US casualties on ships sunk by the submarines significantly contributed to America declaring war on Germany in 1917.” (Abayawickrema,) World War I was called the Great War because there were several countries involved. Radios were also a major production. These increased about 2,500% and by 1929 there were $850 million sales. The people who learned how to make propaganda also made the advertisements for customers to buy products. A big industry that arose along with the automobile was the credit industry. This allowed people to buy items that they did not have money for and put a small deposit down and pay the rest later. This was also a big industry, thus “many Americans started to think that they deserved a little luxury, or that they should try and keep up with their neighbours’ lifestyles. Many were prepared to borrow money or pay for things using credit.” ("Why Did the American Economy Boom in the 1920s?" ) The United States entering the war helped the economy a lot for
World War I, also referred to as the Great War, was global conflict among the greatest Western powers and beyond. From 1914-1918, this turf war swept across rivaling nations, intensifying oppositions and battling until victory was declared. World War I was immediately triggered by the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand, however several long-term causes also contributed. The growing development of militarism, the eruption of powerful alliances, as well as the spread of imperialism, and a deepening sense of nationalism, significantly promoted to the outbreak of the Great War.
“War is unorganized murder, and nothing else” (Harry Patch). In World War 1, which was first called the Great War, there were many causes of the war breaking out. The Great War started August 1st 1914, days after the assassination of the Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife, Sophia, when they visited Bosnia. Many soldiers went to war for no reason but to fight for their country. The Great War was not only affected by the soldiers, but also by the civilians as well.
World War One was the first major war that was fought in mainly in Europe, and parts of Asia. The war lasted from July 28th, 1914 to November 11th, 1928. There were over a hundred nations involved not only from Europe, but from Asia, Africa, Central America, North America and many Island nations. There were millions of casualties fighting in slow moving trench warfare , and many battles were also fought at sea.
World War 1 was the First World War and it happened in Europe it lasted from July 28, 1914, to November 11, 1918.Many people died and many people were let traumatized, over fifteen million people killed and twenty million wounded. The assassinations made Europe mad because they didn't know who did it and began to fight.Europeans wanted a balanced power, Alliances started to form. Some causes of the World War one include Militarism, Imperialism, Alliance system.
It may seem like wars start abruptly, with little cause, but usually there is a bigger story. New policies, lack of equality, military influence, and too much government involvement usually stir up the peace initially. These turn the country or area into a ‘powder keg’, ready to explode into war at the smallest spark. Although the assassination of Archduke Francis Ferdinand was the spark of World War I, policies at the time like nationalism and militarism were the underlying causes of the war.
Great War, also known as The First World War, lasted for four year (1914 to 1918). It brought a huge development of war technics and weapons. More number of countries had been involved in the Great War than any previous war. It involved the mobilization of the whole nations, not just an enormous army that turned the war into a “total war”. (Clare 6) However, historians are still arguing about the major cause of the World War I. The major cause will be one of the four long-term causes of WWI, which are Militarism, Alliance, Imperialism, and Nationalism. In my opinion, the two major causes would be Alliance and Nationalism. Alliance is an association between two or more countries for mutual benefits that formed with different treaties, while Nationalism is feeling and principles of patriotic.
World War I began in nineteen fourteen and ended in nineteen eighteen. World War I was against the Central Powers and the Allied Powers. The Central Powers were made up of Austria-Hungary, Bulgaria, Germany, and Ottoman Empire. The Allied Powers were made upp of Belgium, France, Great Britain, Greece, Italy, Montenegro, Portugal, Romania Russing, Serbia, and the United States. It began when Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary is assassinated by a Black Hand Serbian terrorist group member. The war ended after armistice terms were accepted the central powers demanded by the allied powers (INSERT CITATION).
No one in Europe wanted this war to last because they felt and shared a common belief that the economies of the European nations would not be able to survive a war of this scale. (MAJ (P) Charles E. Heller, USAR) Therefore, Germany started looking into using gas a weapon within keeping in mind of the Declaration on the Use of Projectiles the Object of Which is the Diffusion of Asphyxiating or Deleterious Gases; Ju...
Although France and Britain were natural enemies, their fear of Germany united them together with Russia. These alliances set the final stage for the beginning of World War I. Each country in each alliance would help each other during warfare. For example, if Germany attacked France, Britain and Russia would help France, and Italy and Austria would help Germany, dragging Europe into a state of chaos and violence. & nbsp;& nbsp;& nbsp;& nbsp;& nbsp;Militarism was also an underlying cause of World War I. As the alliance system divided Europe into opposing groups, each nation began to increase spending on its military.
World War I was one of most brutal and largest wars that ha world has ever experienced. World War I was a war fought in many countries all over the world including Europe, France, Russia, Britain, France, the United States and many other countries. Although World War I officially began on July 28th, 1914, this war has been building up for quite a bit of time. The issues started minor but began to grow larger until the official date of the war was declared much like a domino affect.
I think that the First World War was the product of long-standing rivalries rather than a badly mismanaged Balkan Crisis because it was these rivalries that led to the Balkan Crisis. The Balkan Crisis may appear mismanaged because previous crises such as those in Morocco in 1905 and 1911 did not result in war.
World War I begun when Germany invaded Belgium in order to attack France, in which the British declared war on Germany. World War I was called the Great War. President Wilson stated, “It is a war against all nations. American ships have been sunk, American lives taken, in ways which it has stirred us very deeply to learn of, but the ships and people of other neutral and friendly nations have been sunk and overwhelmed in the waters in the same way” (155). This war was viewed as a great crusade to establish legal and moral principles for all nations to follow.
World War I, the Great War, lasted from 1914 to 1918. It is most well known for the horrors of trench warfare style fighting. Tactically, trenches actually saved lives. They were constructed to protect the soldiers from the worst effects of the war. Life in the trenches was difficult and death was never very far away.
World War 1 was called “The Great War”, “The war to end all wars”, and “The first modern war”. It had many causes and a few repercussions and I will describe them in detail.
The Great War took place during 1914 to 1918, it was a global war where the world fought the triple Alliance, which was made up of Austria-Hungary, Germany and Italy. It was one of the first times in history where every resource and weapon was used against an opposing nation. It completely fulfilled all aspects of a total war, as all civilians, both men and women, were affected by the on-going warfare. Specifically in Britain, where everybody was driven to defeat the triple Alliance. Using their political power, the United Kingdom used censorship, propaganda and established the Defence of the Realm Act to govern all aspects of the country, in order to achieve victory on the battlefield. Hence why, World War I was a total war.
