Writing in Electrical Engineering
Have you recently found yourself lost after high school, knowing that you want to go to college, but having no idea what to major in? I sure did! So after reading through the NMSU undergraduate catalogue and asking peoples advice, I found out that our university has one of the top 5 engineering colleges in the entire country and problems were solved! With a fascination of electronics and a steady hold on math, I decided that Electrical Engineering was the choice for me. However, after completing my first semester and gaining a greater knowledge on what Electrical Engineering is all about, I have a greater understanding of how important English and writing really are in this profession. Although most people assume Electrical Engineering to be a purely mathematical field, writing skills are an equally important factor in getting a E.E. major or living as a professional in the field.
In the world of engineering today, just as much writing is being done as there are equations being scribbled out. Whether you are writing a memo or an e-mail to a co-worker or you are writing a detailed essay describing your theories of tri-polar electromagnetism, intelligent writing is important. In an interview with Dr. Ram Prasad, the professor of Electrical Engineering here at NMSU, a brilliant piece of advice was given to me. He said, "You can be the most brilliant mathematician on the planet, but if you cannot effectively communicate your thoughts and ideas with others, it is a wasted talent." In this field a great understanding of technical writing must be achieved before you will be given credit for your thoughts.

... or a journal article and publish it. The articles in periodicals such as Control Systems and Electronic Engineering are not written by journalists, they are written by the electrical engineers who created concepts like AUVs being used to defuse terrorist bombs and how much their research can benefit society. But in order for their work to be published or even considered worthy to read, it has to be very intelligent with a high level of writing skill and technique. Writing is just as important to an Electrical Engineers as the math and science which their professions are centered upon. In order to achieve your major as an electrical engineer and then practice as a professional in the field, you must learn how to perfect your writing skills. This can be achieved through practice in both reading and writing. So good luck. An endless world of possibilities awaits you.
Finding and hiring an electrician to do or fix the electrical wiring in your home is not as simple as flipping through the phone book. Many times, homeowners rush into hiring an electrician without doing any background check. They want to get started as soon as possible, and in the process they end up wasting money on an electrician who do shoddy work or charge way too much. If you want an electrician who is good and dependable, not to mention charge a competitive price, you will need to spend some time doing your research. So how exactly do you pick the right electrician? Below are some things you can keep in mind when you are looking for a good electrician.
In the professional discourse community, written papers or reports must follow specific instruction. Writing as a professional engineer requires papers and reports to be formal and precise, clear and concise, grammatically correct, and straightforward but easy for the reader to follow and understand the instructions. Engineers uses Memos a lot in their work in order to communicate with each other and to communicate with their supervisors. Therefore, they have to follow specific ways of writing so that they could be understood which states the importance of written forms in this professional discourse

Any craftsman knows that you need the right tools to complete a project successfully. Similarly, people need the right language and usage to communicate in a positive way. How people write is often a problem because they don’t have the right tools, but a bigger problem occurs when a writer “is almost indifferent as to whether his words mean anything at all” (592). If a writer carries this mentality, why try to communicate in the first place? People need...
Engineering is the application of scientific, economic design and a wide range of other specialized fields of engineering. As an engineer, there are four major different areas of engineering work that I can concern about, that is chemical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering. Beyond this four, sources separate to other main branches. Based on the electrical engineering is concerned with the basic forms of energy that run the world, there is a hopeful future in taking this major as my direction of future. However, what exactly is the benefit of this major; am I suppose to choose this major; what kinds of job opportunities that I am able to get and various of other questions are what I concerned the most.

As a graduate student, I will undertake research and coursework in Electrical Engineering to enhance my competencies in this field. I intend to complete my master's degree in order to pursue my doctorate. The research that I am most interested in pursuing at Northeastern University surrounds the optical properties of MEMS devices, and the development of substrate-based fast electro-optical interfaces. My interest in this area stems from my undergraduate study in MEMs development for tri-axial accelerometers.
Electrical engineering is the major that I am pursuing during my college career. I decided to pursue this major because it is a career, which requires knowledge in other subjects, it is a career, which changes often, and everyday it provides a person with new problems to solve.
Aptitude plays an important role in learning. If you have it, the job becomes simple. If you don’t, the final outcome is always doubtful. Some tasks, like playing a musical instrument, require a very high degree of aptitude. The average person would face great difficulty in learning such a vocation. Other, more mundane but crucial ones, like driving a car, cooking or writing can be learnt by most people with a reasonable level through training. English composition was never my choice subject and essay writing was not exactly the most joyful assignment at the high school but there were indicators that writing skills would play a crucial role in my future life, irrespective of which career I chose. Take, for example, Anthony Balderrama’s advice. “We spend more time writing in our professional and personal lives than we probably imagined we would back in school. What you may not realize is that these written exchanges can boost your career or hinder it, depending on how you treat them.”(Balderamma, 2009). Taking up Foundations of Academic Writing (FAW) I and II at the university was, therefore, a carefully thought out decision. The FAW syllabus tackles different aspects of academic writing in a systematic way. There is measured emphasis on different genres of academic writing, and there is lots of repetition. As a result, slowly but surely, change starts to happen. Now, as the course reaches the final stages, I can observe these changes in the quality of my writing and overall understanding of the subject. Writing an essay is no more the ordeal that it used to be in the high school.
There are hundreds of occupation around the world, few of which anyone would want to do. Being an electrician is one of them. Electrician keep lighting, electrical system around a building and generator working. Being an electrician can also be dangerous. You can die if you get Electrocuted by touching cables that have running current through them.
“Knowledge, experience and the quality education are the best accomplishment in the race of life” is the statement in which I strongly believe and I forever yearn to have that. What is innovative today is obsolete tomorrow. We need to constantly streamline and upgrade our tools and resources. I believe that only an in depth study and an extensive research in my field of interest will help me to achieve my goal. I live in a world of changing times where technology is constantly engineering better lives. Brought up in a liberalized, humane and a capriciously technically charged environment, I see myself being a consistent part of constant changes around me. Today, my thoughts and aims in life spring from and centre around the world of Electrical Engineering.
Throughout the first few months in my college English class, I have written several papers on technology. I have always tried my best on each assignment, but I do know that I am not the best writer out there. I make many mistakes in my writing, but still find myself getting better at share my own true thoughts. I struggle with my transitions from topic to topic and my narrow vocabulary, however I find myself being more open to sharing my own opinions.
Although there are a plethora of possible careers that I am capable of pursuing, I am particularly interested in a career as either an electrical engineer or a software developer. Electrical engineers fall within the Career Cluster of architecture and engineering. From 2012 to 2022, employment in the field of electrical engineering is projected to grow 4 percent, which is less than the average projected growth rate for all careers. There are no major geographic restrictions to becoming an electrical engineer, however most move to where the companies are located. Travel requirements vary from company to company, but overall the job does not demand much travel. Most electrical engineers work year round, and depending on the firm, there could be some specific peak work periods. Electrical engineers can work 40 hour weeks, or even up to 72 hour weeks, depending on their current projects. There are no major physical demands to the job. The average starting salary for electrical engineers in 2013 was $62,300 per year, and the median salary was $87,920 per year.
Electrical engineering, I believe, is the only field where one’s work becomes the most instrumental part of one’s mundane activity and life, and the output produced stays forever to credit. My perception is that, this field requires a lot of patience, perseverance and management skills in order to be successful. The connection that electrical engineering offered between me and this world is the fact that you can become a person who can impact so many lives. This made me pursue Electrical Engineering. After four years of undergraduate studies in Electrical Engineering, I feel completely satisfied with my decision to choose this branch of engineering as my career option as it has revealed the most pragmatic and down-to-earth approach to tackling
The report I am going to write about is to do with electrical safety devices and safety practices which contribute in reducing and eliminate specific risks. The workplace I have chosen to write about is electricians in power stations. The report I am going to write is going to show a clear understanding of electrical safety devices and the improvements of electrical safety devices.
