My Composing Process The writing process has never been an easy task for me. Fear and panic are the emotions I instantly have when given a writing assignment. Having to write an essay immediately intimidates me and causes writer’s block. This has as always been a dilemma for me since elementary school. After reading an assignment, my mind starts to get cluttered with all kinds of thoughts racing through it. Do I know enough about the topic? Do I understand what my instructor is asking me to do? What research will I need to do for this assignment? I have to put the assignment away for a day or two to help calm my emotions and thoughts. When I return to the assignment, I will do a little research about the topic to better understand what I am writing about. My composing process includes pen and paper, freewriting, and a hard copy of my rough draft. The most difficult part of writing for me is getting started. I have to find ways to get rid of writer’s block. I have found that being outside helps me to develop thoughts about the topic of my assignment. If the weather is nice, I will go …show more content…
Motivation for school accomplishments is affected negatively by online racial discrimination, it affects student’s ability to be successful. There is an importance for educators to pressure an effort in discouraging the actions of bullying and discrimination toward students with disabilities. Efforts should be focus on the extensive discouragement of racial discrimination toward school performance. Swearers and Hymel give an example “Students with specific learning disabilities, were found to be at risk for greater victimization , including cyber bullying and relational victimization, and were involved in more fighting than students without disabilities” (506). It is probable that students with disabilities may commit bullying and
I am sitting in my bed, thinking about my process of writing as I am trying to go through it. It seems the more I think about it, the less I understand it. When I am writing, I don’t think. Which I know, sounds bad. But, I spend every single moment of every single day over thinking, over analyzing, and over assuming every aspect of my life. When I’m writing, I’m free from that for just a little bit. Until of course, my hands stop typing or the pencil (no pens- never pens) stops moving, then I’m right back on the carousel that is my brain. Heidi Estrem says, “...writers use writing to generate knowledge that they didn’t have before.” (Writing is a Knowledge-Making Activity 18). I believe my ability to write without an exact destination
Writing is a process in which many people struggle. Just getting started with the process can be overwhelming. The Purdue Online Owl Writing Lab website authors Stacy Weida and Karl Stolley give helpful insight into the beginning steps of the writing process. Together they address the issues faced by many people in their article entitled, Invention: Starting the Writing Process (February 9, 2011). Good writing takes time and planning. It is a good idea to set aside many different time slots to work on what you are writing. Writing evolves planning, prewriting, writing and many revisions. By leaving your writing for a few minutes and then returning you are able to get a fresh look at your work. “Find out when is the assignment due and devise
When I am assigned to write an essay, the first thing I do is panic. I panic because I always seem to run into the same problems with my writing process. I have no central idea. I have no clue what I actually want to write about. When I was younger, I always started by making a web or an outline because thats what my teachers encouraged me to do in school, but I don’t do that anymore. Now I sit in front of my laptop, I take a deep breath, close my eyes, gather my thoughts, and type. I just let my thoughts flow onto the page. When I don’t feel the pressure of writing to an audience, my writing is completely different than it is when I am writing something that I know my professor or peers will read. As I am writing this exact sentence, I don’t quite know where I am going with it. My writing process is unorthodox and unorganized, but it is what I do everytime. When I stop trying to follow the linear model of writing, explained by Nancy Sommers as the process of forming an idea, writing about it, then revising afterwards, I feel that I am more capable of discovering something meaningful within my words. When I am forced to write a thesis statement and base my paper solely on it, it doesn’t come out as good as I think it should. It decreases the potential for my ideas to grow and discoveries to be made. It limits me to a single statement and narrows my thoughts, preventing me from discovery.
For as long as I can remember I have not enjoyed writing. My writing skills are weak. I find writing difficult, especially when asked to be a more ‘descriptive writer’. I also fear snakes and public speaking, but thank goodness those are not the issues at hand. Writing is challenging for me and I struggle with coming up with words, thoughts and ideas as to what to write about. I envy people who can write beautifully and are passionate about their writings.
Also, once you get into the writing rhythm, you can start multitasking by writing and listening to a full 10 minutes of surfer dude from Spongebob Squarepants laughing. Now, I know what you're thinking, Spongebob? Really? Yes, really. Once you get into writing your essay you will feel as though the little life left in you is being sucked away slowly by an unnamable force, but trust me that obtuse little dude from Spongebob Squarepants’ voice will set you right back to your childhood glee so far that your head will start shrieking from the happiness it is feeling and not the daunting thought of how this essay you are writing is due the tomorrow and you are listening to a nimrod
In order to produce a piece of well-rounded writing, it is a known fact that every author must be able to assemble, grease, and apply the many moving pieces of literacy throughout his work. These tasks, while being vital, do not at all necessitate that a particular technique or procedure be followed for their completion. Thankfully, writers are free to use their own methods to invent, revise, and discover. Speaking for myself, I certainly have my own writing method.
This unit has enabled me to become better acquainted with my writing processes. I now understand that the majority of my writing I use the prewriting strategy of brainstorming to varying degrees depending on what my writing genre is. When my genre is an email at work I compose the email by brainstorming the subject in my head and then typing my ideas directly in the body of the email. I then revise those ideas, usually multiple times, to make sure that my message is easily read and understandable. In essence, I go from my informal brainstorming draft to final draft with no intervening steps. This process is short and takes little time from start to finish, which mirrors the fast pace of the workplace. The brainstorming process I use for the
This is a crucial step because I may add more information if I find that I ran a little short if my writing needs to meet a certain character amount or condense my writing down to something less winded and more manageable. After this I am usually pretty tired of writing so before I do my last editing I try to rest and take a fresh look at my writings to see if it is to my likings, I will then make sure that it is formatted correctly, error free and ready for review. I don’t think that the writing style I use for essays can really be used on writing assignments that are in class and meant to be completed quickly since I preferred to take a lot of time to plan and edit my work, this can sometimes give me anxiety but it doesn’t last long if I feel that I know enough about the topic to provide a powerful writing sample that is well
Throughout the whole semester, the variety of processes helped me better my writing. When I first began writing each of my essays, I would do research that related to the topic I had chosen. I would read through the article I had chosen to see if it had enough evidence to support my topic. Once I was done with all my research it became less complicated for me to begin my essay. Even though I had my ideas on how to write the essay,
I have accomplished numerous things throughout this semester that have provided me a structural basis for important writing processes. We have learned many things throughout he semester that have helped me become the writer I am today. These particular activities have helped me practice my writing processes, from drafting, revising, and editing to providing emphasis and clarity for learning, communicating, and critical evaluation.
Over the past semester, I have found the most challenging part of this course to simply be the transition from high school composition classes to college. Because writing expectations are so different in college than in high school, even with AP and Dual Enrollment “college level” classes, I first found myself being overwhelmed with the pressure to write the perfect first draft. The pressure came from knowing how much a final draft of a paper contributed to my grade. This left me sitting in front of my computer for hours at a time with thoughts of what I wanted to say racing through my head, but unable to deliver these thoughts into organized, structured sentences. I learned, through writing my persuasive essay, that instead of trying to write the paper start to finish and already in its perfect form, it is easier for me to look at the paper through its different components and focus on them individually, then work to best organize my ideas fluently.
As I look back on my writings in the past, especially over the course of this semester. I notice that I have professed far on my ability of free writing.
The most compelling reason to engage in pre-writing process is to set up focus and organization for writing assignment. When pressured to produce an assignment and faced with a blank page, pre-writing phase becomes a helpful tool. The process is either to brainstorm, freewriting, clustering, mind mapping, asking questions, and outline. Pre writing process lists all your thoughts on paper that leads you to come up with a focus on your paper.
for this writing assignment, I’m going to go over some of my experiences that I had with writing. I’m also going to talk about my strengths and weaknesses with writing. As well as some of my goals for this class. also, to explain how writing is important to my major and to the field that I will go to.
When I write a paper, I usually tend to write and edit at the same time. I could never continue writing without correcting my mistakes and making sure everything seems perfect. However, throughout this course, it made me realize that I should write everything on my mind, when writing a paper, just like I would in my notes. Later on, I should revise and edit my paper, making sure to cut back ideas and sentences that are off topic. Additionally, I’m the type of person that likes to write with no boundaries. Writing my research argument essay, made me realize that I could stick to a structure and yet bend the rules a little bit. When we started with this assignment, I was truly excited to research and write about a topic that I am passionate about. When we were asked to form an outline, I was bummed. I felt like I wasn’t able to form ideas or narrow down my topic, let alone write...
