World War Compare And Contrast Essay

Both of the World Wars proved to be devastating to the world because of the great amount of sacrifices they both caused. Each war claimed a countless number of lives along with blood, sweat, and tears. The wars not only affected the soldiers, but they played a big role in civilian lives as well. These wars are still the biggest conflict to ever happen in modern human history, but between the wars, the second World War proved to be more devastating than the first because there was a greater loss of life, deadlier weapons were used, and much more (CNN Library, 2017).

Both World Wars had many direct and indirect costs in them. The first World War consisted of buying weapons to defeat the enemy, supplies for soldiers, vehicles for transportation,

The trenches also contained other pests, such as lice and frogs, that spread many diseases. One main type of disease, that was spread by lice, was called trench fever, which caused the soldiers to itch terribly, have a fever, headache, sore muscles, bones, and joints (“Facts About World War 1 Trenches,” 2017). There was also a great amount of toxic gases used against opposing armies in the war. This type of fighting devastated the soldiers, leaving them with shellshock, post traumatic stress disorder, messed up bodies from the gases, and many more other damaging injuries. One particular type of gas, called mustard gas, was so harmful that it burned an individual’s skin, eyes, and insides if inhaled or swallowed. This fighting style led to 37 million soldiers and civilians to lose their lives during the course of the war (Royde-Smith, 2017). Many people believe these are a few main reasons of why this was a more devastating war than World War Two.
