1. The poster conveys Germany as Thor due to the power that they have in the First World War. Also, it conveys the message of pure evil and how their actions cannot be justified, it's just simply pure evil. It is represented by the demonic figure to show the barbaric actions of Germany.
2. The impression of German goals that is represented by the Prussian eagle would be total power and control of Christianity and continue on its path of pure evil, as seen in the photo.
3. I understand this religious imagery of the French print best by total control of Christianity and they wanted the path of their own religious beliefs to be in order instead of another religion in power. Germany was a country full of pure control and evil, that's why we see Thor preparing to destroy the Church.
4. These images were directed not only to Germany, but the entire world to

show the path of what evil can do to a whole country. Also, the purpose of these images is to show why the Germans wanted the power of their own beliefs and what the consequences may be if not followed. 5. I would describe the posture of this woman as demanding and sort of an attitude on her face defines the posture even more. It shows that woman are being used for the war efforts and that they are useless in anything else, but the war efforts. It also conveys that woman had no choice of freedom, but the choice of demands took their daily life away. 6. The message that the backdrop of the poster communicates would be that without war efforts and Liberty bonds our nation will loose the war and everything we seek in our daily lives will be vanished from our faces. 7. Maybe the true emotions of a woman would more be beneficial to the public rather than a male image because males have been in the war and everyone knows that they are on the line of duty. However, women never faced true issues with the war, so when people would see this they would know that something different would happen to their countries. 8. The different message that both visual sources are trying to convey would be the British system was more easy going, as compared to the one in the United States, where everything is depressing. It shows that women are more appreciated in Britain and they were not forced, but required to work for war efforts, but it was completely different for women in the United States. The United States was more forceful rather than Britain's system. The audience that the poster is trying to reveal towards would be their specific countries, maybe the world and even the war efforts for women that needed work at the time of suffrage. 9.
The image of African soldiers that the poster suggest would be aggressiveness and self reliance to empower those who stand weak which were the colonial troops. This image might be variance to European stereotypes of Africans because of the pure treatment of slaves as cowards, but the poster shows the courage that they have in war.
10. The juxtaposition of the African soldier as compared to the French soldier would be aggressiveness and courage as to weakness, but self-determination. These are the drastic differences that are noticeable in the poster.
11. The French might have set aside a special day to honor colonial troops because they don't want to be affiliated with the Africans or it may just be something that is involved in order it to be deserved to be on a different day.
12. The experience of fighting in Europe might have affected the outlook of an West African solider because they might have it seen as slavery rather than a human being trying to defend their nation. It might have also encouraged them to view them as negative people who would abuse their powers rather than defend those with
dignity. 13. The posture towards the war that the image is trying to convey would be the ability of bravery and the power to push through, but also the fear that is shown by some of the facial expressions of the soldiers. They might have agreed with Nash's mustard superiors because it perfectly captures the events that occurred on that day. Also, it could have been negative where the military soldiers that accompanied him disagree and say that Nash over exaggerated. 14. The painting portrays the attitude of the soldiers as bold, courages, fearful, depressed, worried can basically some of the feelings of the soldiers in the painting. 15. War makes people change emotionally and physically. It also deprives them of having fun or even do anything that portrays the good in their life. The answer to this question that the image is suggesting would be that war was hell and it made everything as a punishment. 16. I might imagine the response of those who created the earlier images to John Nash would be debatable. Some might argue that war was not hell, but others might disagree with those statements. The portray of warfare was staticky different, so that might point out that the conversation can be completely different and have viewpoints that are rather obsolete.
The story of the “Fighting Fifty-Forth” is a true testament of how when a country is in war or a time of despair they can ban together as one ,regardless of race to achieve an objective. Although they were treated unfairly and discriminated against, the 54th regiment paved the way for equality of not only African-American soldiers but for all African-Americans.

When World War II broke out in 1939, many countries began using propaganda to strengthen support for the war. Countries battling in the war used propaganda to unite citizens and keep them focused on contributing to the war effort. During the World War II period, Great Britain and their allies; which included the United States and China, were one of the groups in the war that used various techniques and platforms in order to spread propaganda across their countries. One such platform that played a major role in the spread of propaganda was Britain and their allies’ use of posters to increase morale among people.
In many accounts of the Africans, the Africans were in disagreement with the European's Scramble for Africa. Ndansi Kumalo an African veteran wrote in 1896 if many of them to give or keep their land. In a distrustful and agony tone he spoke of how the poor treatment of the Africans in the Ndebele rebellion against the British advances in South America to convince many others not to stay because it has impacted many Africans and many died in the process of it. He says “So we surrendered to the White people and were told to go back to our homes and live our usual lives and attend to our crops. They came and were overbearing. We were ordered to carry their clothes and bundles (Doc.4).” A German military officer in 1896 wrote in a newspaper article about the reactions of the Africans about the white settlers. In an awed tone he wrote about the 1906 account of the Maji Maji Rebellion in German East Africa and to give an example of how the Africans believed in a magic medicine would help them defend themselves against the white settlers (Doc.8). Mojimba an African chief in 1907 described a battle in 1877 on the Congo River against British and African mercenaries to a German catholic missionary. In an appalled and hateful tone he used this description to show that these whi...
The symbols and images reinforce each other because they create a dark image of the future in the minds of the audience, and also present familiar religious signs like fire in Hell. What makes the imagery so effective in the essay is that it resonates with the audience because of the religious connections that Edwards
Black soldiers were among the bravest of those fighting in the Civil War. Both free Blacks in the Union army and escaped slaves from the South rushed to fight for their freedom and they fought with distinction in many major Civil War battles. Many whites thought Blacks could not be soldiers. They were slaves. They were inferior. Many thought that if Blacks could fight in the war it would make them equal to whites and prove the theory of slavery was wrong. Even though Black soldiers had to face much discrimination during the Civil War, they were willing to fight to the death for their freedom. In the movie “Glory“ the director focused on the African Americans in the north that fought in the 54th regiment led by Colonel Robert Gould Shaw. During the time of the Civil War, the African Americans that fought in the 54th regiment were often treated unfairly but there were always nice people that backed them up.
By answering these five important questions, Verhey is able to give a new perspective on intentions of Germans before and during World War 1.
Prior to the Nazi takeover of Germany, the nation had been suffering deeply. An economic depression, large-scale unemployment, and the shame of losing World War I had put Germany in a dark place. The Nazi’s were incredibly aware of this, and their propaganda at the time reflected a need to reunite the German people. Propaganda appealed to national pride, and putting ones country before themselves. Of course, a strong united people needed a leader that was just as strong, and the “myth of Hitler” would create that leader. Slogans like “One People, one Fuhrer, one Reich!” promoted national unity, and a Wochenspruch from February 1938 states, “The greatest of all sacrifices is to give one’s life to preserve the existence of the community.” Leni Riefenstahl’s Triumph of the Will comes from this time period and helps form the mythological image of Hitler. Propaganda also focused on the good the Nazi party was doing. It discussed how well the Nazi welfare system was working, newsreels showed happy German people enjoying the benefits of the Nazi regime.
Throughout American history, African Americans have had to decide whether they belonged in the United States or if they should go elsewhere. Slavery no doubtfully had a great impact upon their decisions. However, despite their troubles African Americans made a grand contribution and a great impact on both armed forces of the Colonies and British. "The American Negro was a participant as well as a symbol."; (Quarles 7) African Americans were active on and off the battlefield, they personified the goal freedom, the reason for the war being fought by the Colonies and British. The African Americans were stuck in the middle of a war between white people. Their loyalty was not to one side or another, but to a principle, the principle of liberty. Benjamin Quarles' book, The Negro in the American Revolution, is very detailed in explaining the importance of the African American in the pre America days, he shows the steps African Americans took in order to insure better lives for generations to come.
Glatthaar’s essay “Black Glory: The African-American Role in Union Victory” focuses on the important roles of African Americans in the Civil War. Although prominent in the Navy the Army is where blacks needed to make their mark. Originally blacks were a resource for the Confederate Army. They picked up where the white soldiers left off on the home front and behind the lines of battle. A quote from “General in Chief Henry Halleck to Grant, “Every slave withdrawn from the enemy is equivalent to a white man put hors de combat [out of action]” (146) shows acknowledgement of this. Glatthaar expands on how the Union enlisting black soldiers freed up many of the seasoned white soldiers. Many Union soldiers were prejudice and did not view them as equals. “Blacks had to fight Confederates in the front and discrimination in the rear.” (155) This essay supports how over time there grew comradery between black and white soldiers however post war, whites began to minimize the value of their black brothers in arms. What Glatthaar does best is point out that even though their battles were not as glorified in the public eye their efforts began before they took up arms in the war and they were a crucial part of the Union
“Glory” depicts a period in the American Civil War emphasizing on the war modus operandi and troop movement techniques. The film focuses on the first real African-American regiment, 54th of Massachusetts, and the way these soldiers are trained and prepared to fight. Even though they acquire a new status as soon as they enlist for battle, they still face prejudices and are discriminated against by the white men. They’re not trusted to be able to fight with the same ardor and patriotism as the others and this puts them on a lower and inferior rank. Surprisingly enough, things change by the end of the movie, when Massachusetts 54 is engaged in battle and proves the efficiency and the courage of the black men who succeed in making a difference by changing the course of the war. Even though they were not victorious in the battle, they managed to show the world their value, and they brought an important victory for the entire mass of black people against the prejudices and misjudgments of their white neighbors.
During the beginning of the Nazi development. Nazis made posters to shape the Hitler regime legitimacy. The poster shows that there are leaders from different periods. It puts Hitler with emperors in parallel, such as king, prince and marshal, which meaning is that to convey the German militarism and the supreme spirit of leader. The title specially emphasizes the identity of Hitler, who was a soldier. Although the soldiers’ status below other three leaders that can highlight leader’s strong volition and personality
While Collins does a succinct job of examining the economic and political factors that heightened colonization, he fails to hone in on the mental warfare that was an essential tool in creating African division and ultimately European conquest. Not only was the systematic dehumanization tactics crippling for the African society, but also, the system of racial hierarchy created the division essential for European success. The spillover effects of colonialism imparted detrimental affects on the African psyche, ultimately causing many, like Shanu, to, “become victims to the white man’s greed.”
...ay because it was the day that Germany surrendered and the war ended. On this day, there is a minute of silence but no military parade. Another holiday that celebrates an ending of a war is the 8th of May or Victoire 1945, which admires the end of World War II and another victory among the French. People attend parades, sing patriotic songs, hang the national flag all over the country, and sometimes remember the people that died serving France in the war. As a result, of these national days that remember wars, the French can pay a tribute to the dead.
An overwhelming majority of African nations has reclaimed their independence from their European mother countries. This did not stop the Europeans from leaving a permanent mark on the continent however. European colonialism has shaped modern-day Africa, a considerable amount for the worse, but also some for the better. Including these positive and negative effects, colonialism has also touched much of Africa’s history and culture especially in recent years.
